While in route, deputies were advised by dispatch that the father had been cut and that he had shot Richards, according to the incident report.

When deputies arrived, they reported finding the father on the front porch of the home with another deputy, and the son was lying on the floor of a bedroom inside the home, with an injury to the left hip area consistent with being shot. After arriving on the scene, EMS determined that the son was deceased.

The Fairfield County Sheriffs office reported that it was later ruled that the shooting was in self-defense.

Texas will no longer fight to ban 18- to 20-year-olds from carrying handguns in public. A judge ruled earlier this year that a state law banning the practice was unconstitutional, and Texas initially filed a notice that it would appeal. But Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw withdrew the appeal to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this week.

There are tons of drills available online. It seems like nearly every day a new one is invented, with many becoming overly complex, expensive, or unrealistic. While some of these complicated drills can be fun, they arent always the most friendly for newer shooters or those with restrictive ranges. Luckily, there is still hope for those looking for something a little less tactical. The Test is a classic drill that most shooters should be able to run without earning the consternation of overbearing range safety officers. What exactly goes into shooting The Test?

Five senators have asked the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to respond to questions surrounding the agencys decision to scrub gun defensive use stats from its website at the behest of gun-control advocates.

The Republican senators told CDC Director Rochelle Walensky they believe the move damaged the agencys credibility in a letter sent on Thursday. They asked her to turn over any documentation related to the private meeting CDC officials held with the advocates on September 15th, 2021, which The Reload first reported.

When I am asked what alterations I would make to the United States Constitution if I could travel back in time and persuade the Framers to my cause, I often joke that I would add the words, and we really mean it into the margins of every section of the document. All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United Statesand we really mean it. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the peopleand we really mean it. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringedand we really mean it.

Jurors have determined that an Auburn man was acting in self-defense when he shot and killed a man in a park in 2020, The Seattle Times reports.

In fact, they determined that his actions were a little more than that.

David Villalobos-Denning shot and killed Hiram Figueroa, 49, in June 2020 after a confrontation involving Figueroas daughter and another woman.

At the time, Villalobos-Denning was arrested for second-degree murder and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He has a past felony conviction barring him from legally possessing firearms.

CO: Colorado Considers Changing Its Red Flag Law After Mass Shooting at Nightclub

A Nov. 19 shooting that killed five people and wounded 19 at a Colorado Springs nightclub has officials considering changes to strengthen Colorados red flag law, particularly in self-declared Second Amendment sanctuaries, where emergency petitions to remove a persons guns are filed less frequently and usually denied.

The three-year-old state law allows law enforcement officials or family members to seek a court order to seize the guns of a person who poses a threat to themselves or others. But the Club Q shooting underscores a fundamental challenge for it and other red flag laws: Sheriffs often refuse to use the measures based on a belief that they infringe on the Second Amendments right to bear arms.

The complaint describes the bills in the package Murphy signed Thursday morning at a library in Scotch Plains as steps toward making a permit to carry a handgun utterly useless.

This law blocks self-defense and makes citizens less safe," said Scott Bach, the associations executive director.

"The era of New Jersey blocking self-defense of law-abiding citizens is over, Bach said. The Supreme Court has spoken, and this new law is essentially a defiant middle finger from New Jersey to the high court. The new law is going to go down in a flaming ash heap."

Ed.: Two different suits were files within minutes of the law's signing.

What was quite perplexing, however, was the gun control groups citation of two of my recent monthly articles for The Daily Signal on defensive gun use. The groups claim the two articles support the premise that the Districts ban doesnt negatively affect law-abiding gun owners, because none of the cases I cited involved the use of anywhere close to 10 rounds of ammunition.

Worse, the gun control groups spun this as The Heritage Foundation, among others, having acknowledged that the ability to fire more than 10 rounds of ammunition without reloading is not necessary for defensive purposes. (The Daily Signal is Heritages multimedia news organization.)

The final hearing of Illinois proposed gun and magazine ban for the year is in the books, but more hearings are expected in the new year.

Tuesdays hearing featured groups advocating for the proposed ban on certain semi-automatic guns and magazines over 10 rounds. Various members of the law enforcement community also advocated for the bills passage.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and officials from the city of Chicago testified in favor of the proposed ban. Dart even brought examples of what House Bill 5855 defines as large ammunition feeding devices.

Take away the aa smoothies and the skewers of barbecued Brazilian meat and the four-day Texas ExpoTiro here could be a gun show anywhere in the United States.

Firearms dealers from all over the world have rented booths to market Glock pistols and AR-15s, and gun rights advocates are offering lectures on how to confront violent urban crime.

This is a triumph of liberty! said retired military police chief Marcelo Venera, the executive director of the two-year-old expo, the largest gun show in the country and the first open to civilians. We are here to show that we are good people and there is nothing wrong with loving guns!

Something changed in Rhode Island this week.

Thanks to collectivist members of the state legislature, to leftist Governor Dan McGee (D - who officially claims his primary goal as governor is getting shots in arms, as opposed to actually abiding by the U.S. and state constitutions), and to an Obama-appointed judge, Rhode Islandresidents and gun-sellers are going to suffer even more attacks on their inherent right to keep and bear arms.

Christian Wade, of The Center Square, reports that on December 14, U.S. District Court JudgeJohn J. McConnell Jr. refused to block the enforcement of a new Rhode Island statute targeting so-called semi-auto guns, their bullet magazines, and freedom.

A video has surfaced showing the moment a 48-year-old New Jersey Transit bus driver shot and killed a 15-year-old.

The video starts off by showing the man being beaten mercilessly by the gang of teens, kicking him on the ground. As the teens began to disperse, he managed to get up and shoot one of them.

Now, people are calling for the release of the bus driver and charges to be dropped, claiming he acted in self defense against a ruthless group of attackers, fearing for his own life.

According to a PBS affiliate, WHYY, black gun owners in New Jersey are pushing back against a recent concealed carry law.

The instructor, Douglas Worthen, argued that the recent legislation, which heightens requirements for gun ownership, will prohibit black residents from defending themselves, while one of the laws changes, an increase in fees, will further deter marginalized community members from applying for permits, according to WHYY.

I live in Idaho and do a lot of bear hunting, backpacking, backcountry flyfishing, and elk/deer hunting. So, Im always around bears. A good buddy, Ed Sweet used to run the TV show Kid Outdoors. Wed take kids bear hunting. Wed film hunts for his TV show, and Id write articles on the hunts. When 12-16-year-old kids wounded a bear we didnt send the kid in the brush to track them, good ole Uncle Tom got stuck with that task.

A fairly recent Editor For A Day in the E-R suggested that if more people were read the Second Amendment, they would be less inclined to try to promote gun control legislation.

Well, Im game, I am happy to read the Second Amendment (every single word):A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

While the NRA and other pro-gun organizations have been laser-focused on the words to keep and bear arms, they are apparently blissfully blind to the words a well-regulated militia.

The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors, during its meeting at the Lincoln County Service Center in Merrill on Tuesday, Dec. 20, approved a resolution declaring Lincoln County a Second Amendment sanctuary.

The resolution passed this week was authored by District 13 Supervisor Calvin Callahan and co-sponsored by Board Vice-Chair and District 10 Supervisor Jesse Boyd.

Callahan introduced a similar resolution in 2020. At that time, the board voted to send the resolution to the Administrative and Legislative (A&L) Committee. No further action was taken.

NJ: Governor Murphy Signs Gun Safety Bill Strengthening Concealed Carry Laws in New Jersey in Response to Bruen Decision

In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the N.Y. State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen case that it is impermissible to require applicants in New York to show proper cause to carry a handgun in public, which had the effect of invalidating New Jersey's longstanding laws restricting public carry to those who could demonstrate a "justifiable need". Less than 24 hours later, Governor Murphy unveiled a comprehensive proposalthat, consistent with Bruen, would strengthen the statutory disqualifiers for those eligible for a carry permit, while significantly expanding the list of sensitive places where individuals cannot carry firearms.

Prominent litigators Paul Clement and Erin Murphy left Chicago-founded mega-firm Kirkland & Ellis to start their own law firm in June, saying Kirkland's decision to no longer represent clients in Second Amendment matters would affect their client relationships. The new firm, Clement & Murphy, currently lists 11 lawyers total on its website. The Washington, D.C.-based lawyers previously practiced at Bancroft, which Kirkland acquired in 2016.
