New Orleans Police say an armed robber is dead after holding up a New Orleans gas station.

"The NOPD has determined this incident to be a justifiable homicide," Public Information Officer Juan Barnes said. "A store employee produced a gun and exchanged fire with the armed subject. The armed subject was struck and later died on scene, as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting."

Submitter's note: That will put a dent in the crime statistics for that county.

A 24-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing a 38-year-old man earlier this month will not be charged with a crime, after county prosecutors determined they couldnt disprove self-defense in a court of law.

The Dec. 10 shooting was the result of an argument between the suspect and the victim, police said at the time. It occurred at Pullman Point Housing Complex in the 2900 block of Pullman Avenue.

There is ample evidence, however, of the lethal role of firearms in suicides, which have long accounted for the majority of U.S. gun deaths. In 2018, 24,432 people in the U.S. (including 690 in Maryland) died by a firearm-related suicide representing 61% of all firearm-related deaths.

Republicans in the Arkansas Legislature introduced a "stand-your-ground" self-defense bill Wednesday, vowing to enact the measure in 2021 after past efforts failed in the face of law enforcement opposition.

The legislation, Senate Bill 24, proposes to eliminate language from the state's criminal codes requiring a person to retreat, if possible, before using deadly force in self-defense. The bill was introduced by state Sen. Bob Ballinger, R- Berryville, and Rep. Aaron Pilkington, R-Clarksville, and co-sponsored by more than two dozen other GOP lawmakers.

The Ohio Senate passed a stand your ground bill Friday, sending to Gov. Mike DeWine a proposal that would rescind a requirement that gun owners first seek to elude a confrontation before responding with bullets.

If passed, Senate Bill 175 would hand a major victory to gun advocacy groups like the National Rifle Association and the Buckeye Firearms Association who have pushed the proposal for years.

Conversely, passage comes as a loss for prosecutors, law enforcement associations and anti-gun violence activists who testified against the bill.

A 1974 Ohio law that criminalizes possession of a firearm while intoxicated does not violate the Second Amendment and can be enforced against citizens in their own homes, a divided state high court ruled Wednesday.

The Ohio Supreme Courts 4-3 decision stems from the 2018 arrest and subsequent trial of Frederick Weber on a single misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, codified in section 2923.15 of the Ohio Revised Code.

On October 26, 2020, the U.S. Senate confirmed Seventh Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court, making President Donald J. Trumps nominee only the fifth woman U.S. Supreme Court justice. What happened during her confirmation hearings? What should Second Amendment advocates expect from her on the nations highest bench? And, how soon might we see the newly constituted Court take up a Second Amendment case?

During Barretts confirmation hearings, several Senate Democrats tried to paint her as a Second Amendment extremist.

Its the holiday season, and perhaps youre looking for that perfect gift for someone special in your life. This holiday season, if youre considering gifting a gun, there are a few things you need to know before sharing this cherished tradition that dates back to our nations founding.

First and foremost, you need to be certain that your intended recipient can legally own a firearm. It is a felony to transfer a firearm to someone that you know, or have reasonable cause to believe, cannot own one.

New Jersey's tyrannical Attorney General, Gurbir Grewal, is adding to his dubious list of anti-Second Amendment activism. On 15 December 2020, Smith & Wesson sued Grewal, asking for relief, for using his office to violate the First Amendment, Second Amendment, as well as the Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment protections of the U.S. Constitution.

Defense Distributed won a significant victory in September of 2020, with the Fifth Circuit agreeing Defense Distributed could sue AG Grewal in Texas. The case is ongoing and alleges Grewal violated Defense Distributed's First Amendment rights.

Some folks still aren't getting the picture.

With more and more Americans deciding to exercise their Second Amendment rights and arm themselves, the likelihood that crooks might target somebody who's packing goes up and the odds of criminals getting collared or sung a lullaby increases, too.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is pouring millions into the Georgia runoff elections in what an NRA spokeswoman called "an investment into America."

The two elections in Georgia, set for Jan. 5, will determine control of the Senate in the incoming Congress.

"Georgia is home to a significant number of law-abiding gun owners, and the stakes of this Senate runoff could not be higher -- for every Georgian and American," Amy Hunter from the NRA told Fox News on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has been making rumblings about pistol braces for some time, and now theyre going after 80% build kits.

Those of us who have been paying attention have seen this coming for quite a while, but it has mostly been muted during the Trump administration. The BATFE started getting more aggressive and blatant in their assaults on our rights just before the November elections. It appears that the BATFE leadership was pretty confident of a Biden victory and couldnt wait to start working toward Bidens stated goals of increased gun control.

It's been quite a while since violence has broken out in the hallowed halls of Congress. Sure, lawmakers sometimes joke about killing one another (ha ha?), and yeah, there are plenty of heated arguments over doing the bare minimum to help contain a deadly pandemic. But actual, honest-to-god, fist-meets-face violence is often reserved for better-functioning democracies than ours.

House Bill 172 by Rep. Terry Meza (D-Irving) & House Bill 241 by Rep. Lina Ortega (D-El Paso), ban the sale or transfer and possession of commonly-owned semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Anti-Second Amendment politicians aren't even trying to hide their gun ban agenda anymore. As candidates, many of them enthusiastically received support from Beto "Hell Yeah, I'll Take Your AR-15s" O'Rourke during this year's election cycle.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
[The American Colonies were] all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. [European countries should not] be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defence of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them. George Mason, "Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company" in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland (Chapel Hill, 1970).
