NC: Gun controls strip citizens of right to protect selves, family

The Supreme Court recently agreed to rule on the specific meaning of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which reads, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Many gun-control advocates claim this grants a "collective" right, giving the government the authority to regulate the militia, such as the National Guard, and does not grant an "individual" right to gun ownership. The position that the Second Amendment only guarantees a collective right is wholly incorrect, especially when one examines the rest of the Bill of Rights.

As the year draws to a close, may of us make year end donations. We donate to our church or charities that do good work throughout the year. For those who itemize their Federal tax return, it’s also a way to lower the tax bill.

We have compiled a few organizations that you might want to include in your year-end donations. Not all of these are deductible under IRS rules.

Another of the old tricks is to make general statements that seem to be significant. Like the following: "The proportion of banned assault weapons traced to crime dropped by two-thirds from 1995 to 2004." How about some hard numbers? These weapons account for less than one-tenth of 1 percent all gun crime! So what is the significance of this statement about a two-thirds drop really mean? Absolutely nothing!

In a state where gun owners' rights are sacrosanct, Williamson spoke out in 2006 against a bill that extended people's ability to claim self-defense when using deadly force against intruders to their homes, vehicles or businesses. The bill, sponsored by Ross and pushed by the National Rifle Association, became law.

"I hate this bill," Williamson said. "We are sending the wrong message to our children about carrying guns."

Those words ricocheted on Williamson during the 2007 campaign, when Republican challenger Giles Ward of Louisville repeatedly emphasized his support for gun rights.

There were more than 210,000 toy-related injuries treated in U.S. emergency rooms in 2005, and about 6,000 of those involved injuries to the eyes of children under age 15, according to the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission.

...

BB guns, darts, pellet guns and paintball guns are among the toys that pose a threat to the eyes.

"Any toy that can eject or propel an object can lead to a serious eye injury if used incorrectly. This includes innocuous appearing toys such as a popgun or a paddleball set," Coats said.

He also said children who receive sports equipment as gifts should be given protective eyewear.

Ed.: Remember the safety lessons that should go with that first BB gun!

Stoick, 18, of Terre Haute was upstairs in his bedroom when Scott and others allegedly entered. He allegedly pulled a gun and began shooting in self defense.

Once Stoick opened fire, the group fled the home and the area in a red Cadillac. Stoick allegedly fired a shot at the car as it fled, Loudermilk said.

He allegedly fired three shots inside the home and one shot outside with an AR-15, semi-automatic rifle — the civilian version of the military’s M-16. Stoick told police he bought the rifle from a guy off the street, Loudermilk said.

I received the following email:

David:

You can find out who I am by Googling me.

I agree with you on this. Sullivan should not be allowed to serve 1 nanosecond at BATFE's confirmed head.

Irwin J. Nowick

It's based on the warrant comments and his general behavior as US Attorney in Massachusetts.

Having said that, as an in your face I would not be surprised if Bush does a bill signing ceremony on the NICS Improvement Act in which this issue comes up and Sullivan is there.

A new BATFE head should have been asked about this at his confirmation and coming in could have committed to working with the stakeholders to fix these issues and stated when he would have legislation ready.

"...What is true of every member of the society individually, is true of them all collectively, since the rights of the whole can be no more than the sum of the rights of individuals..."

Iowa Republican representative Steve King has introduced a bill in the house judiciary committee entitled "To reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, modernize firearms". If you've been paying attention, the BATFE is certainly a bureau that could use some reforming.

The liberals see no need to fix the BATFE, they are fine with a government agency running roughshod over the rights of the citizens. The only thing that will convince them to pass this law that reins in this rogue agency is a fear of not being reelected.

Over sixty percent of us agree that the second amendment grants an individual the right to keep and bear arms.

Yeah, really. There were definitely less guns in circulation in Los Angeles before the State of California bans on AWs and .50 caliber rifles, and before compulsory handgun registration. Keep on dreaming, Los Angeles Times, and, maybe, you will soon realize your utopian dream of a fascist government.

Federal legislation approved this week aims to strengthen background checks for gun buyers. While some individuals are prohibited from buying guns because of a mental health problem, not all states report this information into the FBI's database. And the states that do participate are criticized for not adding enough individuals to the organization's "Mental Defective File."

The owner of a southeast Houston bar is claiming self-defense as the reason he shot and killed a man. It happened around 11:30 pm yesterday. A man allegedly walked into Henry's Bar on 80th and Avenue B and allegedly began waving a gun. Two men inside, including the bar owner, forced the man out into the parking lot, but it didn't end there. Another scuffle broke out and the man apparently drew his weapon again. The bar owner was armed himself. "He pointed the gun at the bar owner and the bar owner shot him," said an investigator at the scene. "It appears to be self-defense at this time."

The bounty hunter accused of kicking in his wife's door and dragging her outside, the pawnbroker who left a loaded gun tucked between the seats of his unlocked car, the drywall company owner who donated money to the sheriff's campaign and owns a vacation house with him. All of these men subsequently received permission from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department to carry a concealed gun.

I dont mean to startle you enough that you spill your mug of eggnog, but the forces that want you to stop fishing and hunting are at it again. As practitioners of hunting and fishing, we face threats to our sports on a constant basis. Whether it is loss of available hunting land or our losing access to waterways, the threats are real and must be fought with vigor. No threat should be taken more seriously than one that restricts our right to bear arms.

An alleged robber was shot and injured by a resident in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday morning, police said. Police spokesperson Captain Debbie O' Brien said the incident took place in Doone Road in Padfield Park near Pinetown at 03:45. The resident heard dogs barking and awoke from his sleep. "He took his firearm and went outside to investigate," said O' Brien. Police said one robber, who was hidden between two cars in the driveway, jumped towards the resident with "something" in his hand. "Fearing for his life, he instinctively fired his weapon," said O' Brien. A second robber jumped over a neighbour's wall, fleeing the scene.

Martin Antonio Perez was killed making an $18 delivery of food from the Emerald Diner in Yonkers. He was found in a stairwell, shot in the face. Twenty-five years old, he had already survived cancer, and the apparent senselessness of his death makes you catch your breath. There is no reason for a .357-caliber Magnum handgun to be on the streets in the hands of a killer. Whatever the arguments for or against gun control, this young man's life has ended. You can understand why Mayor Phil Amicone is member of Michael Bloomberg's bipartisan coalition, Mayors Against Illegal Guns. "The issue of illegal guns is not conservative or liberal; it is an issue of law and order - and life or death," the group says in its message.

If you're ticketed by Green Bay police, you'll get more than a fine. You'll get fingerprinted, too. It's a new way police are cracking down on crime.
If you're caught speeding or playing your music too loud, or other crimes for which you might receive a citation, Green Bay police officers will ask for your drivers license and your finger. You'll be fingerprinted right there on the spot. ... THEN, LATER IN THE ARTICLE, WE LEARN:
Citizens do have the right to say no. "They could say no and not have to worry about getting arrested," defense attorney Jackson Main said. "On the other hand, I'm like everybody else. When a police officer tells me to do something, I'm going to do it whether I have the right to say no or not."
