There's a been a great deal of discussion around the office as to what actually constitutes the twelve days of Christmas. The primary point of contention is when you're supposed to start counting ... before Christmas or after. Internet research suggests the count start on the big day and run through the new year. A number of our colleagues, however, think it starts on the 13th and finishes on Christmas Day. To avoid such contention, we decided to drop all twelve days of our NRA Christmas in today's post. With that being said ... here we go with the first few days:

Few of the lectures I give on political technology and campaigning make people as agitated as this one.

None is more important.

Simply put, politics is not about the common good, appealing to mens better angels, nor serving our Lord. These may be your motivations. I pray they are mine. Occasionally, they will be a politicians motivation.

Submitter's note: Probably the best article on "the process" I've ever read. Now, if only more of us would put this information to use.

Guns, and whether they can be stored in your vehicle at work, will once again be debated by lawmakers in the upcoming session.

Rep. Dale Crafts, R-Lisbon, is seeking to modify a controversial bill signed into law in June that allows those with a concealed firearm permit to store a gun in their vehicle at work, as long as the vehicle is locked and the firearm is not visible.

Crafts has submitted new legislation, L.D. 1603, to extend the same right to state workers as those who work in the private sector.

I find it disturbing that one councillor's fear of guns should be dictating a taxpayer-funded assault on the Orono Fish and Gun club's rifle range. First off, whoever drafted a policy of 70 decibels at 30 metres is probably trying to make a one-size-fits-all policy.

Berms, trees and buildings can shape and block or magnify sound. To say what is too loud is difficult. Then to have Councillor Wendy Partner spouting off about assault rifles is rather humourous.

"We have been harassed by police, treated like common criminals,' Madison Jones told council members.

Jones, a blond, smartly dressed woman who was not packing heat at that moment, said 20 people wearing holstered handguns ate in a backroom at Vince's Spaghetti last month.

That is, until "a swarm' of Ontario police burst in and told the group to take their weapons back to their cars or leave. They left.

Jones said she and her group carry weapons to ``defend ourselves' and exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms.

At the nonprofit, nonpartisan Live Free or Die Alliance, however, we asked our Facebook followers to comment on a pair of recent gun-related questions: one involving an attempt to eliminate bans on firearms on college campuses, and the other on a state House of Representatives committee's passage of a bill to remove the requirement that citizens obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

Respondents to both these questions were pretty easy to group into less regulation/more regulation camps, and the results were clear: New Hampshire citizens want unfettered access to guns, even on college campuses.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962
