An arrest following a robbery at a McMinnville Bi-Mart store has both police and area residents shocked.
The shock comes from those who know the suspect -- Clackamas County sheriff's deputy -- David Verbos.
Police said Verbos is accused of entering the store Thursday night and pulling out a gun behind the prescription counter. Authorities said Verbos allegedly demanded prescription pain pills.
Clerks reportedly gave him the pills and Verbos left the store, only to be caught the next day. No one was injured and no shots were fired.
Verbos was a school resource officer for Rex Putnam High School and, most recently, he has been on patrol in Wilsonville. |

Gov. George Pataki is grandstanding again. He ought to know by now gun laws don't stop crime proper; punishing criminals does. Killers ought to be executed, not allowed to live the rest of their lives at taxpayers' expense.
Also, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Sliver's remark about the National Rifle Association proves he knows nothing about the NRA, which has sponsored more crime-fighting laws than most of the lawmakers in Albany. I have belonged to the NRA all my adult life and am proud of It.
