What seems like many years ago, I wrote an essay the earliest reference I can find to it now is in an article published in 2000 by former _The Libertarian Enterprise_ editor John Taylor, but Im sure its older which, with a nod to one of my favorite scenes in Raiders of the Lost Ark, was called 'Why Did It Have To Be Guns?'."
"Its thesis, essentially, was that you can learn everything you need to know about any politician if you find out where he stands with regard to your individual right to obtain, own, and carry weapons. If he wont trust you, you cant trust him. One politician I had in mind when I wrote it was then Arapahoe County (Colorado) Sheriff Patrick J. Sullivan." ... |

The run of the mill permit holder will not carry in a prohibited zone, but no sign is going to stop a predator."
"So just who does a 'No Guns' sign protect? Will it protect anyone from an armed mugger or rapist? Dont be silly, they dont care about legal niceties. Will it protect you from some nut-job on a mission to shoot as many people as possible before he blows his own brains out? No, he wants a target rich environment full of disarmed prey, the better to ensure a high body-count." ... |

"I gather that there has been some confusion as to whether S. 1867, the NDAA bill currently pending in the Senate, should be read as (i) requiring the use of military detention for US citizens in some circumstances, (ii) authorizing it but not requiring it, or (iii) precluding it. The best reading of the language currently in the bill is (ii): Section 1031 and 1032 when read in conjunction suggest that US citizens are included in the grant of detention authority contained in section 1031, while being expressly excluded from the language in section 1032 that appears on the surface to affirmatively requires resort to detention for a subset of the persons made detainable by section 1031." ... |
