A Bay County Sheriff's deputy who discharged his firearm in a high school has been arraigned on a felony charge and two misdemeanors.
On Thursday afternoon, Dec. 29, Bay County Court Magistrate Janice Doner arraigned Deputy Adam J. Brown on three charges, including tampering with evidence, which is a four-year felony, careless discharge of a firearm causing injury, which is a two-year high court misdemeanor, and careless discharge of a firearm causing less than $50 in damage, which is a 90-day misdemeanor.
The charges stem from an incident last month involving Brown, who fired a handgun inside the Bay City Western High School and Middle School building at 500 W. Midland Road last month. |

What was once a possible murder case in Oconto County is now being described as self defense.
After 11 days in jail, the Oconto County district attorney decided to release a 17-year-old boy Wednesday. But district attorney Edward Burke says the teen could still face charges for the fight that killed 36-year-old Jason Fotopoulos.
FOX 11 is not naming the teen because he is not facing charges right now.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, district attorney Edward Burke said an investigation concluded the teen was acting in self defense when he punched and killed Fotopoulos. |

The National Rifle Association is claiming that Tucsons policy of destroying seized and surrendered firearms is designed to deliberate suppress legal gun ownership in Arizona and will likely lead to an increase in violent crime and harm public safety.
Attorneys for the group are asking the Arizona Supreme Court to side with Attorney General Mark Brnovich who contends the city policy is a violation of state law. Brnovich wants the justices to order the city to rescind the policy or forfeit more than $115 million a year in state aid. |

As 2017 approaches, many people are considering how they will do things differently. For the new year, considering the numerous unprovoked terrorist actions committed all around the world, my resolution and promise to my family is that I will lawfully carry my Glock 19 wherever I can.
Im doing this because I love my wife and son. This is not about sounding tough or trying to impress anyone. |

Ergo, as he heads out the door of the White House Obama's putting the finishing touches on a new policy that would deprive recipients of disability insurance and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) in addition to their Second Amendment rights. The administration will now characterize those citizens as "mental defectives," thereby having their ability to own a firearm subject to the federal Gun Control Act. Supplemental Security Income helps blind, disabled, and elderly people with little to no income. Previously, it was understood that "mentally defective" referred to one's mental health. |

East Texas is seeing a rise in gun sales. Owners say the reasons why is a complicated issue. During the 2016 presidential election, fear of losing the second amendment caused many people to buy weapons.
"If the other side won, there was a fear that guns would be taken away," Eagle Eye Firearms owner Brad Clark says. "People started stocking up in case of a shortage and rise in prices."
Clark says hand guns and rifles such as the AR-15 is a popular weapon. He sees many customers buying the weapon. |

Last Monday, Barack Obamas Social Security Administration (SSA) issued the final version of a rule that will doom tens of thousands of law-abiding (and vulnerable) disability insurance and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients to a loss of Second Amendment rights under the guise of re-characterizing them as mental defectives. The SSA, for the first time in its history, will be coopted into the federal governments gun control apparatus, effectively requiring Social Security applicants to weigh their need for benefits against their fundamental rights when applying for assistance based on mental health problems. |

M.D. Harmon, a conservative columnist who frequently wrote in favor of gun ownership rights for the Portland Press Herald, died this week after being accidentally shot by a teenage boy.
As the Press Herald itself reports, the 71-year-old Harmon was showing off one of his guns to a 16-year-old boy in his home in Sanford, Maine, on Wednesday. Harmon apparently let the teenager handle the weapon, which went off while the boy was holding it.
Both the teenager and his father were visiting Harmon for undisclosed reasons, and Harmons wife has called the shooting an accidental tragedy. |

Virginia-based Liberty University will soon begin construction on an on-campus shooting range to promote sport shooting and, more importantly, give students a place to practice shooting skills that could save their lives.
According to university officials, the schools range will be the first of its kind in the nation. The NRA and NCAA compliant range will allow the school to host Olympic shooting sports in addition to giving students a place to hone their target and safety skills. |

In 2016, criminal cases that played out in New Orleans courtrooms drew national attention while providing lesson material for anyone hoping to drive home the point that sometimes a gun is best left holstered or at home.
January brought the trial of Trung Le, who had found himself in a Bourbon Street gunfight a year-and-a-half earlier.
Prosecutors say he had been summoned by friends in the French Quarter after somebody stole their marijuana. He brought a gun with him. It was never entirely clear what sparked the exchange of gunfire with a stranger on Bourbon. |

However, the journey of women in the firearms industry may have come full circle; from gun bunnies to female gun owners and sadly, back around again.
We were tagged in a Twitter post which also hash-tagged a company championed by conservative pop idol Tomi Lahren. Since I dont follow or watch the self-proclaimed newsanchor [sic] extraordinaire, I Googled the Bullets and Bombshells Gun Society. I clicked on the link and an avalanche of dismay and disappointment swiftly doused my fiery notion of what women have worked so hard to avoid being portrayed as in the firearms industry. |

Those of you who are living in the anti-gun state of California are brave souls and I applaud you for staying put and digging in to fight for your gun rights.
Although the sweeping gunmegeddon restrictions against Californians Second Amendment rights go into effect July 1, 2017, Ben Boychuk of the Sacramento Bee says the only thing these gun laws deserve is contempt. |

The arrival in 2017 of a raft of new gun control laws in California wont amount to much, except more hassles for gun dealers and the law-abiding few.
Yes, few. When buying a handgun, rifle or shotgun, the vast majority of people naturally will follow the law. The cost of noncompliance is too high, and the inconvenience is too great. Unless your next-door neighbor happens to traffic in illegal weapons, odds are you will go to the gun store, fill out the paperwork, endure the waiting period and get on with your life.
But many otherwise law-abiding gun owners simply will not comply with the new rules on ammunition purchases and the ban on high-capacity magazines. |

Yesterday Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt issued an opinion on Nevadas new universal background check law, saying the initiative, as written, is unenforceable.
This is what happens when you allow uninformed, out-of-state lobbying groups that prey on peoples emotions to write your laws. NRA Nevadans for Freedom has been saying all along that this poorly written initiative was drafted without any input from Nevada law enforcement.

In the third year since concealed carry was enacted into law in Illinois, there are several local businesses that have sprung up to teach basic shooting and safety techniques, as well as other aspects of carrying firearms away from ones residence or business.
Owens partnered with two other men, Zack Wakeland and John Wyatt, to form Resolute Dynamics, a company specializing in instruction for the concealed carry license. |
