Police say a woman whose live-in boyfriend struck her in the head with a gun at an Ohio hotel fatally shot him when she got control of the weapon.
Columbus police have identified the man killed Thursday night at In-Towne Suites Extended Stay Hotel as 29-year-old Porfilio Salvador Hernandez.
Homicide detectives say no charges will be filed for now against 27-year-old Raven Lynn Torres for a shooting that they say appears to be self-defense. |

Many consider Indiana a gun friendly state. And in recent years there has been an effort to loosen some restrictions the state does impose, but as gun violence escalates there is also push back.
At the end of a 2017 special study committee, Indiana legislative staff attorney Akash Burney reviewed the states gun laws.
Indiana does not require handgun owners to be licensed or register individual handguns, Burney read, Indiana only requires a license if that individual desire to carry a handgun in public. |

After the deadliest year in two decades, the first half of 2017 seemed just as grim in Chicago as homicides remained devastatingly high, raising fears that the spike in violence had become a new normal for the city.
Then in the second half of the year, homicides plummeted, particularly in two of the citys most violence-plagued neighborhoods, contributing to about a 15 percent overall drop in killings over last year.
That decrease has raised new hopes that Chicago could make progress in shedding its national reputation for gun violence, an image fueled by both President Donald Trumps frequent mentions and by the distressing loss on Chicagos streets. |

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family, but were just days away from the start of the 2018 legislative session.
Eleven days, in fact.
And the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is hard at work getting ready for an all-out battle over Stand-Your-Ground!
Just like we saw with the Constitutional Carry fight, legislation this important doesnt become law on its own.
Instead, it takes as much grassroots pressure as we can muster, to force the politicians in Boise to stand up and fight for the Second Amendment. |

The states high court heard oral arguments on whether families of Sandy Hook school shooting victims can hold gunmakers liable through negligent entrustment.
A trial court tossed out the lawsuit against gunmakers Bushmaster and Remington, makers of the AR-15 rifle used to kill 20 students and six educators in December 2012.
Thirteen amicus briefs were filed on behalf of 19 entities in what many legal experts believe could be a landmark Second Amendment decision. Among the amicus filings was a brief from the National Rifle Association on behalf of the gunmakers. Paul Clement, C. Harker Rhodes IV and Erin Murphy of Kirkland & Ellis stepped in for the NRA. They were also joined by Kenneth Slater Jr. of Halloran & Sage. |

America has just set a new record. Want to guess what it is? Record-breaking high school math scores, you say? Nope. Maybe a record number of workers pulling themselves out of poverty, or a banner year for a decline in infectious diseases? No and no.
Here's the news: On just one day last month, the citizenry of the United States filed the largest number of applications for an instant gun background check. Yup. On Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, a record-breaking 203,086 of us weren't just counting our blessings; we were asking the FBI to hurry up and approve our gun purchase.
So, who are these people? Were they simply exercising their Second Amendment right to own a firearm, or did some of them have more sinister motives? |

As 2017 slides into the history books it is time to consider 2018. I believe 2018 will be a very intense year for gun owners. With 2018 being an election year, everything will be on the line.
First, all of the Illinois State Representatives and one third of the Illinois State Senators will be up for election. As you are well aware, it is a continuous battle to keep our Second Amendment Rights in Illinois. The makeup of the Illinois General Assembly is key. |

Gov. Asa Hutchinson, in a letter sent to the Arkansas State Police and prosecutors, said this month that he believes that a much-debated 2013 state law allows for the open carry of handguns, though no officials have announced a change in policy in response to the governor's message.
Col. Bill Bryant, the state police director who was appointed by the governor and to whom the letter was directed, issued a memo of guidance to commanders on Wednesday. It was the first time the director had directly given guidance on the matter of open carry, according to an agency spokesman. |

As the women in the video (led by a grown-up Blue Ivy at the head of the table) discuss revising the Second Amendment to our Constitution, which "protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms," a difficult discussion ensues. One woman passionately states, "Some people should have the right to bear arms." Brie Larson follows up with, "I understand your point. In a perfect world it would be lovely if we could all just put down our weapons and get along, but that's not the world that we live in." |

First Rule of Fight ClubFight Back
Overturning a Court of Appeals ruling, a unanimous court held that a Henry County student expelled for fighting had a right to argue self-defense before school officials kicked her out under the schools zero-tolerance policy.
Writing for the court, Justice Robert Benham said, [s]imply because a student engages in a fight does not establish the student has violated a disciplinary rule prohibiting the physical abuse of others. |

If theres a reason why Hollywood should just stay out of politics, especially gun politics, and this is your classic example. Ed Asner and Ed Weinberger, a screenwriter, decided to teach the National Rifle Association a history lesson on the left wing site Salon. It dropped a little before Christmas, and it ended with both men getting a face full of buckshot. They argued that our Founders were pro-gun control, which is odd given that the first shots fired in our American Revolution at the battles of Lexington and Concord, were in response to British soldiers trying to seize our guns. Still, lets go through their arguments: |

I cannot understand people being pro-life but not wanting any common-sense measures for gun safety. It is heartbreaking to hear of children killing themselves or someone else because a gun was where they could reach it. We have all kinds of childproof items, but a deadly gun is not childproof. Surely our technology is advanced enough that this could be achieved.
The Second Amendment allows citizens to have guns, but shouldnt take away the rights of citizens to feel safe at school, church and other venues. Responsible gun owners should be able to own guns, but let us close gun sales loopholes and have gun owners and manufacturers have liability for tragic gun deaths. |

Id love to report that everything is going to be different in 2018 and that our opponents have seen the light. But unfortunately, that is not the case. In the closing months of 2017, we saw one bill after another that reflects the same twisted thinking that if criminals only faced one more law, maybe theyd call it a day. The list of topics is a familiar one: civil liability for someone elses crimes, universal background checks, de facto semi-automatic bans, magazine bans, waiting periods, and watchlisting (i.e., may-issue NICS approvals). |

It is time for me to say, thank you to all of my friends and supporters within the NRA Family for your many kindnesses, and for your continued trust, friendship and support.
First, I would like to thank all of the NRA members who were instrumental in circulating and signing my most recent NRA Members Petition for re-election to the NRA Board of Directors. Because of your efforts, I was able to submit a total of 181 petition pages to the NRA Secretary containing 1,371 signatures of NRA members from 45 separate states, and to be successfully nominated by NRA Members Petition. Thank You! |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. Ronald Reagan |
