"A pro-gun lobbying group is complimenting MTV for treating law-abiding gun owners fairly in its "True Life: I'm a Gun Owner" documentary, which aired Thursday night. But Gun Owners of America argued that the producers featured misleading and inaccurate statistics and focused almost exclusively on anti-gun anecdotes, giving viewers a false impression about the effects of gun ownership in America." ...
"It seems that they did treat fairly the two legitimate gun owners, the two 'good guys' ...But they didn't even give you one legitimate case of self-defense with a gun, which is a shame considering that there are, on average, 7,000 such cases every day." |

"...I can envision a time when antiabortion groups and churches might fear soldiers attending meetings or services if such groups are labeled 'threats' by a subsequent administration. ...Perhaps gun owners' groups might feel that soldiers are joining to get access to membership lists or activities if such groups are deemed 'dangerous.' Is one a Second Amendment defender or domestic spy?"
"Yes, I took an oath to defend the United States against all enemies 'foreign and domestic,' but the implication of domestic intelligence-gathering by the military, even by a limited number of soldiers, should be sufficiently disturbing for American citizens in and out of uniform that we think long and hard about crossing the line, even a little." |

"The Founders had every opportunity to add 'except for bombs, mortars, artillery and other devices that can kill more than one person at a time' all of which were well-known by 1787. They did not. Quite to the contrary, Tench Coxe, noted federalist and friend of James Madison, wrote in defense of the proposed Constitution, in the Pennsylvania Gazette of Feb. 20, 1788: 'Their swords, and every other terrible instrument of the soldier, are the birth right of an American. ... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or the state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.'"
"Note 'unlimited.' Note 'every terrible instrument.'" |

"During the presidential campaign, there was a gun control bill on the president's desk which he never signed because he was afraid of the N.R.A. because it would cost him votes. I call automatic pistols and submachine guns 'Cop Killers.' The N.R.A. has now made it possible for criminals to arm themselves with all kinds of nasty weapons." "The latest one is Barrett 50-caliber rifle which fires 6-inch, armor-piercing phosphorus bullets. It has a range of 2 miles. It has enough power to destroy an armored personnel carrier and probably a light aircraft. It is definitely not a weapon to hunt Bambi. It might come in handy if you wanted to rob a Brinks truck. Our Vice President Cheney is an avid bird hunter. Maybe he could use it in case he is attacked by a wild canary. A man who had five deferments during the Vietnam War can't be too careful."
------- We would challenge the writer of this hysterical, blubbering blather to point out any cases of crimes being committed with the Barrett rifle, and then research how many police are killed by people wielding "automatic pistols" and "submachine guns."

Im gratified to see our legislators here in Wisconsin Get It finally.
We all know the response times to crime by law enforcement here in the rural areas of the midwest much less is it guaranteed by the Constitution despite being a taxpayer. The passage of concealed carry is the re-affirmation of the Second Amendment and the God-given right to self-preservation will no doubt lead to less crime because criminals wont know whos armed and whos a willing victim.
The biggest hurdle now will be the Madison Beltway mindset and the mighty (albeit over-worked of late) veto pen of Jim Doyle. Lets pull together to protect our rural way of life and urge the signing of this bill into law.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
