Our second interview of pro-gun politicians is with State Senator Tim Schaffer, a long time defender of the 2nd Amendment, and friend to gun owners in Ohio. Senator Schaffer followed a productive career in the Ohio House, where he voted in favor of each pro-gun bill that was introduced, with his new position in the Senate. ... Chatting with Senator Schaffer left no doubt about his strong feelings for gun rights and gun voters based on his statement that, “pro-gun voters mean the world to me, they are resolute, dependable, they say what they mean, mean what they say and are dedicated to preserving constitutional rights.” |

"I have concerns it could cause some people to think they have a license to shoot people and they don't,” says Moore.
Where this case may play out is in civil court, where the changes also made it nearly impossible for family members of an injured or dead attacker to collect damages for the attacker.
NRA members say they will push for more changes this upcoming session in hopes of extending your personal protection area past your home and car to anywhere you're legally allowed to be. |

Authorities say that one man who planned to rob a pizza deliveryman is dead after being gunned down in apparent self-defense, and a second would-be robber faces charges that include murder.
The shooting happened Thursday night in the St. Louis suburb Pagedale. Police say Rodney Reese and Brian Smith called in a pizza order. When the deliveryman brought the pizza, Reese and Smith allegedly robbed him at gunpoint.
Fearing for his safety, the pizza man fired his own gun. Smith was struck and died at the scene. Reese ran away with the pizzas and soda, along with the victim's wallet.
On Saturday, prosecutors charged Reese with second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action. He is being held on $250,000 bond. |

The following didn't happen. Or did it?
As I looked down the barrel of the 9 mm Glock pointed at my head, I remember thinking:
"I could have prevented this. I had a concealed-carry permit with tactical training (not required) and many hours of practice. I knew what to do. But I obeyed the law--a law meant to protect me. I left my gun at home to go to class. How ironic. That law got me and 31 others killed. It didn't stop the killer."
Explosion. Lights out--forever. |

When Americans nominate their presidential candidates next year, the Second Amendment won't be the first thing on their minds. The issue didn't even appear in a recent CNN poll that found that the economy, Iraq, health care, immigration, and terrorism are the nation's biggest concerns.
But in a country where 36 percent of Democrats and 48 percent of Republicans have firearms in their homes, the issue is still a locked and loaded one for candidates of both parties.
Republican presidential hopefuls, as expected, worked hard to win over the members of the National Rifle Association at the organization's convention in September. But even otherwise gun-shy Democrats are expressing Strange New Respect for gun owners. |

Most of the horrific recent shootings have occurred where our God given right to self defense is denied. How can a reasonable person believe that trampling the rights of law abiding citizens will have any effect on a criminal’s will to commit a crime? Criminals, by definition, do not obey laws. So the only effect of gun control is to create a target rich environment where a maniacal killer can operate free from fear of a law abiding citizen. I think of “gun control” as being synonymous with “criminal protection.” |

But a day after news broke of an entire family murdered near Carnation by two other family members -- one who allegedly told police "she was tired of everybody stepping on her," I saw this sign posted at the Cabela's entry:
"All firearms & bows that are brought in for repair; service or trade, must be opened & checked in at the Greeter's Desk. This does not apply to conceal/carry permit holders. Thank you, Cabela's.
Ed.: N.B. Cabela's sign doesn't mention checking concealed or openly carried guns, only guns and bows brought in for service, repair, or trade. I think the author missed that part. |

The idea of need-based privilege sounds a lot like a police state, and a call for forced confiscation of private property such as firearms sounds a lot like strong-armed robbery.
Who do we propose to carry out these confiscations? The Marines?
“No Need” is a call from an American citizen for the suspension of the First and Fourth Amendments. Are there any other articles in the Bill of Rights that we can do without?
The Second Amendment was put in place for some very good reasons, and hunting wasn’t one of them. |

New Orleans police have said they took only guns that had been stolen or found in abandoned homes.
NRA lawyer Daniel Holliday said investigators have identified about 300 of the gun owners and located about 75 of them.
Some of them could be called to testify during a trial, he added.
"Finding these folks has been a nightmare," Holliday said. "That is really the guts of our case - to establish that there was indeed a pattern of the police going out and taking people's guns without any legal reason to do so." |

ust before Christmas, 30 women in this area participated in a firearms and personal safety course sponsored by the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office. Many wanted to learn to shoot, feeling a .38 Special or similar handgun would be their best defense against the unthinkable: That they too might face a violent death as did the much admired and gentle soul, FSU nurse Cheryl Dunlap. |

Police in Columbia have seen several recent instances where would-be crime victims have fought back, including one case where the suspect was fatally shot.
Police said Henry Brown was shot Thursday while trying to break into an apartment. Brown later died.
Authorities said the shooter, 18-year-old Alvin Canton, acted in a manner of self-defense that is protected by Missouri's so-called castle doctrine. That law allows homeowners to use deadly force against unlawful intruders. It took effect earlier this year. |

George Mason refused to sign the report of the Constitutional Convention because it lacked an expression of the rights of citizens.
The Founders had fought one oppressive regime and it feared any government could enslave a defenseless populace. Besides, it seems that Mr. Newcity has a tendency for misquoting. Few people advocate the "unfettered access to firearms."
I can agree with Mr. Newcity's call for universal military service. Under the old Swiss constitution, only men with swords, i.e., defenders of the nation, were allowed to cast ballots.
Mr. Newcity, if you are willing to give away my constitutional rights, I should have the power to give away yours. |

For those of you who may have been on another planet for the past three or four years, our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are having serious reliability issues with the M16 rifle and M4 Carbine, especially the latter. The basic problems with the M16 and M4 are nothing new. M16 reliability issues date to the mid-1960s and more recently, a study of the M4A1 conducted by the Special Operations Command in 2000 stated that the M4A1 was fundamentally flawed for a number of reasons. |

From The Drum Major Institute's Year In Review. 2. Assault on Gun Tracing. The National Rifle Association is again working feverishly to protect our right to privacy. Never mind warrantless wiretapping, Internet searches saved for all eternity, and cell phone tracking systems. The pressing privacy issue of the day is ensuring that gun trace data is kept out of the hands of safety officials who would use it to track down illegal gun dealers. |

Robin Garrison, an off-duty 42-year-old firefighter, was walking in Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio, in May when he saw a woman sunbathing topless under a tree. He approached her and they started talking and getting comfortable, the woman smiling and resting her foot on his shoulder at one point. Eventually, she asked to see Garrison's penis; he unzipped his pants and complied. Seconds later, undercover police officers pulled up in a van and arrested Garrison; he was later charged with public indecency, a misdemeanor, based on video footage taken by cops who were targeting men having sex or masturbating in the park. While topless sunbathing is legal in the city's parks, exposing more than that is against the law.
