ST. PETERSBURG - "A 22-year-old St. Petersburg man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal shooting last month."
"Jovante R. Thomas was arrested Tuesday and charged with unnecessary killing to prevent an unlawful act. Police said Thomas caught a man who was trying to rob him, took his gun and shot him with it. 'Where we're drawing the difference is the robber had been subdued and disarmed,' said homicide Sgt. Mike Puetz. 'He no longer posed a threat.' " ... -------
LET'S BE CLEAR ABOUT THIS: Many police officers have shot innocent, unarmed people dead and never been charged. This man shot a robber but faces manslaughter charges? OK, got it. Sounds about right in The New Amerika. |

"Every time my wife urges me to look into getting OnStar, the digital, computerized communications device installed in many newer-model GM vehicles, I have resisted."
". . . Now, even my wife agrees that OnStar would be a really bad idea. What changed her mind? In addition to the irrefutable eloquence of my arguments, it was a recent story, tucked away in an Internet news service, describing a recent federal court decision that confirms what my own conspiratorial-oriented mind always suspected was true. The FBI and other police agencies have been using these factory-installed tracking systems as a way to eavesdrop on passengers in vehicles, without the folks in the car even knowing the government was listening to their conversations!" ... |

"The Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) are proud to announce that they will be holding the SAFER, or Second Amendment Freedoms for Everyone Rally on Mother's Day 2004."
" 'It is important that we continue to counter the anti-rights crowd head on. While we really would prefer not to have a rally on Mothers Day, we felt a great need to be there on this Mothers Day, yet again.' stated Dianne Sawyer, President of Second Amendment Sisters, 'Mothers are the backbone of this nation. Increasingly, more women are arming themselves. Women are realizing that they personally have to take steps to assure their own safety, and often the safety of their children. By far, the safest means of self-defense is a firearm.' " |

"More than two years after the 9/11 atrocities, nobody would consider thwarting honest legislation aimed at preventing terrorists from obtaining firearms for further attacks on American citizens."
"But there is good reason for Americans to be cautious about blindly endorsing the proposed Terrorist Apprehension Act, sponsored by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., a traditional opponent of firearms civil rights. That bill ostensibly would give law enforcement greater ability to monitor gun purchases by people on a 'terrorist watch list.' " |

The stun guns available to civilians have 18 watts of power while law enforcement's stun guns have 26 watts, Tuttle said."

"Christmas is just around the corner, so if you guys are thinking about buying the chillun a firearm or two, this is a great choice. Friend of mine just took his son home a Remington 700 .243 composite, and its a gun hell treasure for life, guaranteed. A few years back I got a wild hair about a .270, but when the cash was at last laid on the counter, I left with another .30-06. (On a hilarious side note, they wouldnt let me take my bullets with me. Had to walk to the truck, stash the gun, walk BACK in and buy a box of 165-grains, then BACK out to the truck where the gun was. Now do you feel safer knowing youve elected such genius federal politicians???)"
"So should you ladies be pondering the age-old question of 'What in the world am I going to buy Homer for the holidays?' theres your answer: a good .243 or .30-06. Cant go wrong either way. Oh, hell settle for a 7mm 08 or maybe a .44 mag or even an old standby .308. Just get him a gun." |

"Keeping guns out of the hands of terrorists is a top priority for the U.S. government. Ditto for getting information quickly to federal agents when a suspected terrorist tries to buy a gun - or worse, succeeds." "But those goals are being undermined because the nation's chief law enforcement agency, the Justice Department, is using a loophole in federal law to let terror suspects purchase guns. Until recently, department critics contend, the loophole also denied FBI (news - web sites) terrorism investigators access to information that might help them track suspects."
------- Hmmm. Let's see. You're an enterprising terrorist, and you have a choice: you can either spend a few hundred dollars on a firearm in a shop run by a law abiding citizen looking to make a profit; you can contact one of your terrorist pals from any number of countries who sanction and support your nefarious activities and get the gun smuggled into the country free of charge; or you can buy a cheap throwaway gun on a street corner - no questions asked. Which would you choose? |

"Utah has developed a reputation as an extremist state for its gun carriers and the broader domain they've been seeking-a brouhaha broke out there in 2002 when gun owners sought unsuccessfully to bring their firearms into Winter Olympics events. Another erupted when gun owners wanted to 'pack heat' at a dinner where Vice President Dick Cheney was the guest speaker. So if any state would remove schools' authority to ban guns, Utah ranks as a leading candidate. But according to Luis Tolley, legislative director of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Utah is not the only state that now allows guns in school. According to Tolley, Alabama and Oregon already had allowed guns in schools at the time Utah passed its law. And this summer, New Hampshire joined the list when it put into effect a law that effectively removes school officials' powers to keep the guns out."

"The detective, Julio Vasquez, and a retired officer, Thomas Rachko, were awaiting arraignment Wednesday in a corruption case that disrupted an unrelated money-laundering probe of a Colombian drug ring."
------- And these are the sort of men that MMM, VPC, et al. say are the only ones who should have guns. |

"Prosecutor Ralph Hoisington says he will announce Thursday whether charges will be filed against Goose Creek Police in a high school drug search where officers drew guns as students were ordered to sit in the hallway."
"The November 5th search at Stratford High School attracted national media attention and is the subject of a 200-page report by the State Law Enforcement Division."
"Hoisington received that report last week. No charges have yet been filed."
"Videotape from surveillance cameras showed students restrained students with plastic handcuffs sitting on the floor while 14 officers, some with guns drawn, looked for drugs."
"No drugs were found, and no one was arrested." |

"Decades of drug laws have provided financial incentive for people to sell narcotics to people who are psychologically addicted and willing to do or pay whatever the cost. Outlawing certain drugs is nothing more than an attempt to legislate morality. A more viable alternative would be to tax all drugs and then use that money for education and treatment facilities. But with politicians controlling the purse-strings, that would be about as likely as lottery money being spent on education."
"Most Libertarians agree that our draconian drug laws cause more problems than they solve. One problem is this: If a multimillionaire like Rush Limbaugh, who can afford the best healthcare in the world, is in so much pain and agony that he accepts his housekeeper's offer to buy prescription painkillers on the black market, after his own doctors obviously failed to help him, then what chance does an average person have of finding effective pain management?"
"The best thing to come from Rush Limbaugh's plight would be an honest examination of our most expensive and disastrous 'War' to date. It could be the spark that leads to a real national debate and a complete overhaul of our country's drug laws." |

"A few years ago, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 that carrying a gun near a school was not interstate commerce. To most people, the decision was obvious. So why 5-4? You might think the decision should have been 9-0 and that it should not have taken more than one page to explain. Yet the good justices tied themselves into knots with lengthy explanations of their votes for and against."
"The reason this decision was so complex and caused such consternation among some legal scholars was that previous generations of Supreme Court justices had turned the Constitution's simple concept of interstate commerce into a complicated rationalization of Congress' ever expanding exercises of power that it was never given when the Constitution was written." |

"The AFL-CIO asked Wednesday for state and federal investigations into police conduct during protests outside the Free Trade Area of the Americas meeting last month."
"The protests grew sporadically violent in the final days of the trade talks. Some of the thousands of demonstrators threw objects and fired slingshots at officers; police hit protesters with batons, zapped them with stun guns and dispersed them with tear gas and pepper spray balls. More than 200 people were arrested."
"The letter from AFL-CIO president John J. Sweeney said police blocked access to a union rally, cut off a peaceful march and, once confrontations started, did not give the crowd a safe route to leave." |

"According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a Nov. 26 letter from Attorney General Jim Petro, one of three Republicans vying to be governor in 2006, told 400 party leaders 'I fear we are losing sight of our immediate goals and committing a mistake that could cost us everything during the next three years.' "
"Although Ohio is expected to be pivotal in next year's presidential race, intra-party feuding among those interested in the 2006 governor's contest has dominated the political landscape." ...
"The issues over which these candidates are fighting highlight the larger problem at work within the Ohio GOP."
"A liberal vs. conservative tug of war has been at work for some time within Ohio's Republican party, and the early and frequently contentious debates between gubernatorial wanna-be's feed directly from this larger battle."
"More than the battle itself, it the problems which are causing the battle which threaten to split the party on the eve of a Presidential race." ... |

Can it be that Sen. Pres. White only made these statements to this one newspaper, or is it perhaps much more likely that the larger Ohio dailies, in collusion with Taft on opposing concealed carry, simply refused to print this major news?
"Gun-rights organizations insist that as a candidate for governor in 1998, Taft initially said he'd sign a concealed-carry bill. But Taft amended his position to say he'd only sign a concealed-carry law that had the support of the law-enforcement community. Then last week, Taft declared he would veto a bill that didn't publicize information about gun permit holders."
"This, of course, was after White had gone to the trouble of getting a majority of Ohio police groups to support the Senate's concealed-carry bill."
"There was a lot of discussion and hard work - many hours on the Senate side - because we thought there was a parameter of: If you do X, then I'll do Y."
"Then Taft kind of moved the goal posts." ...
"Now, Taft's clumsy maneuvering on guns could inspire the legislature to pass a concealed-carry bill just for spite." |

"A man who stole a Salvation Army donation pot from a disabled woman Tuesday was hit by a car when he tried to escape, police said."
"Police captured Edward Sanders, 40, after the collision. The pot and the $53.97 inside were returned to the Salvation Army, Snyder said."
------- KABA NOTE: This is definitely off topic as far as firearms go. But every now and then, when the Law of Cosmic Justice enforces itself against a bad person, it's nice to sit back and laugh at the fool and give thanks. Sorry we don't have a video of this event. If we did, we'd surely publish it with a smile. |

"He ordered the drivers to stop but one of them ignored the direction and appeared to drive straight at him."
"The senior constable fired three shots, one of which struck a nearby building before the car sped away."
------- NOTE: Only the driver's side window and rear windows were damaged. |

"Six suspected members of the notorious 'Bonnet Gang' were killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Manila yesterday afternoon."
"Police said the suspects, who included former military men, were spotted during a routine patrol."
"Superintendent Edgar Danao said plainclothes agents of the anti-carnapping unit chased the suspects but were fired upon by another group who were tailing the lawmen in a Toyota Tamaraw FX van. . . triggering a three-minute gun battle which left all of the six suspects dead."
"Police identified two of the slain suspects through their identification cards as Army Sgts. Cenando Lannu and Romeo de los Santos."
------- But only cops and the military should have guns, right Sarah? |
