"The [SAF] is encouraged by this morning's federal Appeals Court ruling in the case of Ord v. District of Columbia that finds the plaintiff has standing to pursue legal action against the city, opening legal doors for the pursuit of other gun rights cases including one filed by SAF challenging the restrictive wording of the 1968 Gun Control Act."

"Robert Ord is pursuing a legal action against the District for having issued an arrest warrant for him without probable cause because he had been hired to provide armed security at a District of Columbia school facility and he had status as a 'qualified law enforcement officer' ... which exempted him from the District's ban on carrying firearms without a license." ...

"Your Nov. 20 editorial, titled 'Tracking a bad law's aftermath,' contained so many misconceptions and outright falsehoods that it cannot go unchallenged."

"You say that it is a myth that concealed weapons laws in Ohio and other states make us safer. The truth is that violent crimes against law-abiding citizens have dropped where concealed-carry has been enacted. Certainly there has not been blood in the streets, as predicted by opponents of concealed-carry." ...

SCOTUS sets oral arguments on Chicago gun ban challenge

"The long-awaited challenge to Chicagos handgun ban will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on March 2, 2010 and already it is looking like everyone, on both sides of the issue, anticipates that the justices will rule that the Second Amendment is incorporated through the 14th Amendment as a barrier to local gun bans."

"Even anti-gunners appear to be pressing the notion that if the Amendment is incorporated, the justices should leave enough wiggle room in their ruling to allow most, if not all, existing gun control laws to stand."

"This leaves many hard-core gun rights advocates once again demanding, 'What part of shall-not-be-infringed don't you understand?'" ...

"With oral arguments before the Supreme Court scheduled to begin on March 2, 2010, the Cato Institite and the Heartland Institute are among the nation's most elite think tanks filing amicus briefs in support of the Second Amendment Foundation's and Illinois State Rifle Association's lawsuit contesting the Constititionality of the Chicago gun [ban]."

"In a Nov. 30 article written by Ashley C. Stinnett for publicnuisancewire.com, Maureen Martin, a senior fellow for legal affairs with the Heartland Institute, said McDonald v. Chicago could be a bigger landmark case than last year's Heller decision, and that this year's ruling will build upon the Heller precedent, extending the application of the Second Amendment to the states." ...

"The intent is obviously to make certain that the citizens of the state would have the necessary weapons for the defense of the state."

"As our democracy has evolved, so has the concept of the citizen militia. Today, those citizen militias bear the names, Army, Air Force, Marines, Reserves, National Guard, etc. We as citizens of the United States bear arms for the defense of the state through these military organizations and this is the manifestation of the intent of the Second Amendment." ...

"The Arizona Supreme Court on Dec. 1 delivered the third legal victory for West Valley resident Harold Fish, who garnered national attention and a 10-year sentence for his fatal shooting of a man on a northern Arizona hiking trail."

"On Dec. 1, the court declined to consider an appeal filed by the Attorney Generals Office that sought to reverse an appellate court decision that ordered Fish to receive a new trial in Coconino County for shooting and killing Grant Kuenzli. Reversing the order for a new trial would have meant that Fishs murder conviction still was in effect." ...

"At least one Rosemount business has open arms to welcome anyone who chooses to go armed."

"For the past month, a sign outside Rosemount Saw and Tool's South Robert Trail location has featured information about the business on one side and on the other side has read, 'We welcome armed customers!'"

"Owner Gary Betters said the sign is a reaction to the signs banning weapons that started going up after the Minnesota legislature approved a concealed carry law in 2003. That law eliminated some of the barriers to getting a permit to carry a concealed weapon but allowed businesses to post signs banning guns."

"The way Betters sees it, though, its not the people who get licensed to carry a gun he has to worry about." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
