"'We will pry your gun from your cold, dead, fingers,' Bateman threatens. So much for the illusion of civilian control of the military, although it does drive home the fear the Founders had of a standing army."

The Scout Rifle is a class of general-purpose rifles defined and promoted by LtCol Jeff Cooper, USMC. Jeff Cooper was a lifelong student of small arms and conceptualized a handy, light rifle that will do a great many things equally well He stated that The general-purpose rifle will do equally well for all but specialized hunting, as well as for fighting; thus it must be powerful enough to kill any living target of reasonable size.

White has admitted the cultivation of cannabis and possessing illegal firearms, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Submitter's note: ...he'll still be jailed for the illegal possession of the gun that almost certainly save his life.
Things ARE getting better here for firearms owners but slowly & in parts only at present.

A man who fatally shot his father during an altercation at the sons rural Murdock, Nebraska, home in June was cleared of any charges on Monday because the shooting was ruled self-defense, Omaha.com reports.

David Bouzek had not seen his father, Gary, in 27 years. Off and on Gary served time in prison starting in the 80s for an extensive criminal history which initially included armed robbery, then additional time after he attempted to escape from prison. Then, in 1987 Gary was charged in the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old.

The First Presbyterian Church of Dallas began the year with a gun buyback (that turned into something of a circus), and it will end the year with a gun buyback for those in need of, say, some quick Christmas cash. On December 14, the church will offer $50 for working handguns and rifles, and up to $200 for semi-automatic assault weapons. And, per Wednesdays announcement, unwanted ammunition will also be collected free of charge.

Everyone who walks onto Auburn Universitys campus must leave behind all shotguns, pistols, revolvers, starter guns, silencers, Tasers, bows, arrows, slingshots, swords, crossbows, brass knuckles, fireworks and anything else that shoots, stabs or explodes.

Its just been traditionally that Auburn University has not allowed anyone other than law enforcement to have weapons on campus up until recently, this year, said Lieutenant Keith Walton of the Universitys Department of Public Safety and Security.

The state legislature has passed a new gun law and when they implement the new law it requires that you can have a weapon in your vehicle at all times, as long as you got a permit to carry the gun, Walton said.

Should a veterans inability to handle his financial affairs deprive him of his Second Amendment rights? Each time the question has come before Congress, Democrats have said yes. Republicans and the National Rifle Association say no.

The issue threw a monkey wrench in last weeks debate on a $631 billion defense bill.

The Veterans Affairs Department routinely adds the names of vets needing financial assistance to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, denying them the right to purchase or own a firearm, according to an Associated Press report.

So it's no surprise when railroad commissioner candidate Wayne Christian would sell the closure of a lead smelter in Missouri as an attack on the Second Amendment. But that does not make it any less mendacious.

If the seemingly endless lines at Black Friday gun counters and the record firearms, ammunition and gun accessory sales posted for Cyber Monday are an accurate indicator, then Americans desire to exercise their Second Amendment rights is stronger than ever. Thats wonderful news.

The downside is that many of these weapons will find their way into the hands of individuals with a very limited understanding of basic firearms mechanics and little in the way of formal firearms safety training. Luckily, there are ready solutions for both of these scenarios.

There are well over 100 clubs and organizations for students at Florida Tech to be a part of, so the fact that the Florida Tech Shooting Club (FTSC) is one of the schools most popular organizations in just its first year of existence says something about how much the clubs activities have resonated with the student body.

When we started, we maybe had a core group of maybe 15, 20 people and its since blown up, Florida Tech Shooting Club president Christopher Penta said. On OrgSync (Florida Techs official website for keeping track of organization numbers), we have about 120 members; on Facebook, we have about 75 or so.

Though the president and many in the media did their best to exploit the bloodshed, once it became apparent that the remedies proposed by the president had nothing to do with the crime, their momentum was stalled. No amount of rhetorical excess from President Obama or the pundits could cover up the fact that even if every item on his gun-control laundry list had been passed prior to the shooting, none of them would have prevented Adam Lanza from stealing weapons from his mother before killing her and then heading to the school where he embarked on committing senseless slaughter.

While the NRA didn't oppose extending the current law, it has opposed expanding it, including applying the law "to magazines, gun parts, or the development of new technologies."

"We will continue to aggressively fight any expansion ... or any other proposal that would infringe on our Second Amendment rights," NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said in a statement.

The conservative Gun Owners of America has opposed even the extension, saying such laws wouldn't stop criminals intent on printing weapons.

As yesterdays Washington Times was reporting that black Friday gun sales were the sixth highest in history, on the heels of another report that National Instant Background Checks (NICS) had declined more than 14 percent from November 2012, the Washington Department of Licensing told this column that it is months behind on logging handgun transfers into the states pistol registry.

Yet gun sales are still up overall nationally, and there does not appear to be a decline on the horizon.

The African-American Initiative is holding the summit to help people learn more about the states self-defense law, especially in light of Louisvilles rate of gun violence.

"We got a lot of guns on the streets as it is," says LIFE Institute CEO Eddie Woods, one of the summit's organizers. "But weve got a lot of legal guns as well that are registered handguns and so forth that are in peoples hands who are law-abiding citizens, on the surface anyway. And so consequently what you get is you dont know who is holding a gun or when."

The victim's family maintains this could not have been a self-defense shooting but police say, as of now, that is how the case is being investigated.

10TV has learned some new information about the security guard at the center of it all.

The call for help came within minutes after 28-year-old Omar Cunningham was shot.

Operator: "Sir, do you have any idea who shot him?
Caller: I did. I'm the security guard here."

Police say security officer, Quentin Rollins, made that call.

...

They say Rollins told detectives Cunningham went to his car and pulled out a gun.

Operator: "You said you did shoot him?
Caller: Yes, he pulled a gun out on me."

This technological advancement should be celebrated not feared like some modern day Luddites. Instead we get more of the same. This idiotic anti-freedom law is scheduled to expire on December 9. But the GOP controlled House of Representatives already passed a bipartisan extension by a majority voice vote. Wait, what? A voice vote? I wonder why they didnt have a normal vote so that they would have to be on record and have to defend that vote to their constituents.

Plus what does a majority of the House mean? Apparently, according to Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), it means a majority of about 10 members of the House (out of 435) who bothered to show up for work on the floor at the time of the voice vote.
