Justice Secretary Leila de Lima yesterday supported a proposal to allow judges and lawyers to carry firearms to defend themselves amid rising cases of attacks targeting them.
This developed as the Supreme Court (SC) continues with its program to prepare and train judges nationwide to defend themselves from possible attacks that could be related to their work.
In an interview with Agence France Presse, De Lima also called on judges and lawyers to undergo training on practical shooting and driving as precautionary measure against possible ambush attacks. |

When her service weapon is not on her, city homicide detective Peg Sherwood keeps it in a safe, stored in a closet and locked with a key. Her husband, Teddy Anderson, a sniper on the SWAT team, also keeps his guns locked and out of the reach of their 7-year-old son.
"We made him aware of our guns, and let him touch them," Ms. Sherwood said. "We figured that would take the curiosity away." |

"The governor said Tuesday that the sale of a murder gun to a Cincinnati youth prompted him to advocate this course of action. He said he is looking into the possibility of asking the next legislature to make it a felony to obtain lethal weapons for minors and to require the licensing of firearms for private possession."

Library staff and patrons are spending the weekend in counselling after a man was killed by a crossbow right in front of them. It was the busiest time of day on the busiest day of the week ... when a crossbow fired a bolt through Si Cheng's back. The 52-year-old died, right there, the Main St. public library on Thursday, just after 4 p.m. His 24-year-old son, Zhou Fang is charged with pulling the trigger. ... Zhou Fang appeared in court Friday, and remains in custody. He is charged with first-degree murder. Reports suggest Fang suffered emotional and physical abuse from his father.
COMMENT: He wasn't killed BY a crossbow; he was killed WITH a crossbow. The crossbow didn't fire the bolt; a person did.

Gun Owners of America (GOA) has a great idea for Members of Congress Read the Constitution. GOA is advocating that Members of Congress read the Constitution early in the next Congress out loud on the House and Senate floor. What a great idea.
Will liberal Senators raise a point of order because they dont want to hear the 2nd Amendments mandate that:
The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Will liberals ask for equal time to read Supreme Court decisions that agree with a warped interpretation of the clear words in the Constitution? We know that they dare not be on the Senate and House floor during a reading of the Second Amendment. |

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is poised to add the Internet to its portfolio of regulated industries. The agency's chairman, Julius Genachowski, announced Wednesday that he circulated draft rules he says will "preserve the freedom and openness of the Internet." No statement could better reflect the gulf between the rhetoric and the reality of Obama administration policies. Submitter's Note: The Internet should receive all the protections offered by the First Amendment. In other words, HANDS OFF! Without the Internet to spread the word, I don't believe we would have achieved what we have on CCW and other Second Amendment issues. This is a vital issue worth fighting for. |

Senior Cpl. Mike Jones has denied the allegations. He says he thinks he's being punished more harshly than officers who have committed more serious offenses.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown declined to comment on the case. He fired Jones on Friday.
The Dallas Morning News reports an internal investigation found Jones reported working off-duty jobs at the same time he was doing other police work

Raise your hand if you were at all surprised when tax-and-spend, liberal Filthadelphia Democrat Gov. Ed Rendell vetoed the Castle Doctrine bill. This legislation had passed 45-4 in the Senate and 161-35 in the House.
The Castle Doctrine bill was crafted to expand self-defense rights outside the home. Under current law, the use of deadly force is not justifiable to protect oneself when one can safely retreat, unless a person is attacked in his or her dwelling or workplace.
Ed.: Grumble, grumble. Stand your ground, not castle doctrine. |

From now on, if you want to bash me about the Second Amendment, it's going to cost you. And me, too, but only temporarily. If you want to take me on over this issue, let's agree on a third party we both trust, and let's each deposit with him or her a sum of money, say $1,000. Then you get 30 days to produce anything I've written that supports taking away your guns.
If you can do it, my money's yours. If you can't, your money goes to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, and I get to report your generous contribution here. |

In Tucson we have such ridiculous laws, such as no knives on library grounds.
Well thats all set to change as Arizona becomes more lax on knife laws also. I wonder if the Republican lawmakers realize that they are making it easier for minorities and immigrants to get these weapons also, and they are.
Ed.: Also a poll. Funnily, for a pro-knife-control site, the `more freedom` option in the poll is winning by 4 points as of this writing. :-) |
