"One would think that in a city that is over 76 percent Democrat, that has 30,000 members in its teachers union and almost 13,000 employees in its police department, there would be no problem packing a full-blown concert hall, let alone a limited venue like Untitled, where the canceled event had been scheduled to take place."

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Police believe the Wednesday night fatal shooting inside a Bi-Lo grocery store parking lot was the result of a robbery gone bad.

The victim told investigators he was trying to purchase several computer tablets when the alleged robber pulled out a gun on him. The two fought each other inside the car when a another man attempted to pull the victim out of the vehicle. Neither that man nor the alleged robber may have been aware that the victim was also armed.

"They were fighting and he fired shots to protect himself," said Chattanooga Police Sgt. Wayne Jefferson.

The alleged robber was left dead in the car and his alleged accomplice showed up at the hospital in critical condition.

Residents signing up for concealed carry permits have increased over the past year, and that's likely to continue.

People passionate about their second amendment rights are rushing to get their concealed carry permits.

We have seen an increase in people getting concealed weapon permits over the last several years. There is a lot more people taking classes now that there is the enhanced license, a lot more people are taking the classes to get their license, explains Bryan Horsley, Reds Trading Post general manager.

On a recent weekday, a teenager with KAUFMAN on the front of his hoodie walked into Copperhead Guns on Mulberry Street, appearing somewhat distraught and not looking for anything in particular.

The shop owner, Paul Lemon, was not on the premises of the store, one of Kaufmans newest businesses, at the time.

Instead, it was Jack Jordan, a transplant to the area from Moultrie, Ga., who fielded the teens questions and made small talk, which lasted a few minutes before the teen left.

From time to time, gun rights advocates find themselves in a discussion of the Second Amendment with someone who claims to be a military veteran that supports gun control. Most of the time, its easy to dismiss these people as pretenders or whatever, though military service doesnt make one automatically pro-gun.

Thats the case with Lt. Col. Robert Bateman in a piece over at Esquire:

Gun-control advocates settle for small win at federal level

In all likelihood, the renewal of the Undetectable Firearms Act is the only gun control law that Congress is likely to approve this year, which some gun control advocates are hailing as a small victory.

The UFA requires that all guns be detectable by metal screening machines. It was set to expire next Monday if Congress did not act to renew it. The GOP-controlled House approved a bill on Tuesday, H.R. 3626, that would keep the UFA on the books. The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration where it is likely to pass.

Whod have thought it? The House of Representatives has voted to extend the soon-to-expire ban on undetectable plastic guns. In doing so it did two favors for Americans, protecting them against a real threat to safety and also demonstrating that gun control is possible, despite the howling of those who think the Second Amendment offers blanket immunity from any effort to restrict firearms.

The Senate has yet to act on this law, though it is expected to support it. The need is obvious. It is now possible to make plastic handguns with 3-D printers that can potentially slip past metal detectors and fire lethal rounds.

The .45 ACP barrels on the DoubleTap are punishing. They are clearly capable of punishing anyone on the receiving end of a 185 grain hollow point. Of much less significance is the hellish pain you feel in your hand when you shoot it. It is, literally, bruising. Or it can be. It was with me. No one would complain about hand pain after surviving a self defense situation, though, and thats the point.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz's advice for a conservative group facing criticism and hardship: "Stand your ground."

The choice of words appeared to be a reference to a string of negative press the American Legislative Exchange Council a group made up of conservative legislators and corporate members received for backing laws similar to the controversial "Stand your ground" self-defense law that made national headlines in 2012 and 2013.

A lot of attacks can happen in parking lots as shoppers are carrying heavy bags back to their cars. If someone approaches you, drop your bags, including your purse. When in danger, its a lot easier to run without bags in your hands if you need to get away. Its important to drop everything so you can defend yourself.
The value of your items is not equal to your life, Martin said.

...

If attacked or approached by a suspicious person, step back and put your hands up in front of you. This stance shows that you are not fighting, but you are prepared and defensive. Yell, Stop, I dont know you, go away, Martin said. This message is very direct.

Background checks for gun sales in Nevada have climbed by more than 10,000, or 8 percent, from last year. In addition, consumer sales of Mace brand pepper guns and defense sprays grew by 63 percent.

"Anytime you see economic downturn, you see people turn to self-defense," said Cole Miller with the Zombie Apocalypse store.

One mistake that people make is believing that if theyre kind, moral and trusting, other people will be the same, he says. Unfortunately, bad people have proven that they have none of those qualities.

Another mistake some people make is thinking that they somehow will attract violence if they think about it, he says.

On the western outskirts, the farmers who formed self-defense militia to combat the Templars earlier this year man their own checkpoints behind walls of sandbags.

The vigilantes say they have "liberated" more towns near Apatzingan in recent weeks and vow to spread, ignoring federal government warnings that their expansion will not be tolerated.

The New York City Police Department is taking aim at owners of shotguns and rifles capable of holding more than five rounds, demanding such guns be surrendered, altered or taken out of the city.

The demand came in the form of some 500 letters mailed out to owners of registered long guns that are in violation of a 2010 city ordinance. The first option for the letters recipient is to, Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced on Wednesday that West Virginia would join 25 other states and one territory in filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court arguing that law-abiding folks who purchase guns from gun dealers only to turn around and sell them to other law-abiding individuals should not be subject to federal prosecution.

Our Office is proud to lead a bipartisan group of 27 states and territories in this brief to oppose the U.S. Department of Justices attempt to unilaterally create a federal restriction on firearm sales between law-abiding citizens, Morrisey said in a press release.

The heart of the ad Phoenix rejected -- literally -- is an image of a heart with the words "Guns Save Lives' superimposed, a message to "train your kids' and his organization's web site.

But Schwartz said that, in small print around the heart, was what he called a "diatribe' about the Second Amendment, Arizona's own laws on the right to carry a concealed weapon and the "castle doctrine' that allows people to shoot intruders in their own homes. He said that made the essence of the ad non-commercial and therefore forbidden under city regulations.

Despite the Obama administrations fiendish efforts to censor the truth, Special Agent John Dodson, one of the key ATF whistleblowers who exposed the Fast and Furious plot to arm Mexican drug cartels, recently offered more explosive insight into the deadly scheme. In addition to further demolishing the bogus botched-investigation narrative peddled by the embattled administration and its allies in the establishment press, Dodson also shed light on various elements of the gun-running operation that disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder and the president have been conspiring to keep secret.

Several cities changed their local ordinances as a result. But some cities learned to exercise a loophole in the law in order to discourage further lawsuits. They refused to change the law, fighting the effort in court until the last minute, wasting city resources and costing those challenging their illegal practices as much money as possible. Then, before a court ruling was made, they would repeal the statute, preventing the plaintiff from recouping any costs or attorneys fees.

As part of a number of reforms Ohio gun laws proposed in House Bill 203, the bill would change to law to close this loophole.
Once sued, cities would be subject to a $100 a day fee if they lost the lawsuit or repealed the ordinance.

A new poll shows more Americans are against gun control schemes that gathered steam after last years school shooting in Connecticut, but thats not stopping gun control groups from using the anniversary to push their cause.

According to lefty mouthpiece the Huffington Post, the gun-grabbing group Moms Demand Action is releasing a scary ad apparently showing a school classroom pre-shooting. According to The Hill, the national Obama group Organizing for Action is pushing anniversary events at the local level which sounds oddly festive if you think about it.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75)
