I am initiating coverage on Smith and Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ:SWHC). The stock caught my attention after seeing the massive nosedive it has taken following the U.S elections. That said this rings of potential opportunity. More generally, it is interesting to see how certain sectors skyrocketed following the election, while others have tanked.

The election of Donald Trump, endorsed by the National Rifle Association and cheered by gun owners who were skittish over Hillary Clinton, has sparked an aggressive new effort to force liberal states to take down their barriers to concealed carry permits and gun ownership. National gun groups such as the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Second Amendment Foundation and the U.S. Concealed Carry Association are eyeing legal challenges to some 10 states that make it difficult for citizens to get a carry permit and buy weapons such as AR-15s, decried as "assault weapons" by critics. |

Democratic lawmakers will again try to criminalize firearms storage that allows children to find guns and potentially hurt themselves or others. In the Missouri House, St. Louis County Rep. Stacey Newman told the News-Leader she'll be re-filing a version of her previous bill that would make it a Class D felony to knowingly leave "a readily available, loaded deadly weapon" in the presence of anybody younger than 17. To meet Newman's standard for security, gun owners would either have to put a trigger or cable lock on their weapon, remove the ammunition or put the firearm in a safe.

A state bill introduced Monday would require California law enforcement agencies to keep track of their guns and establish a reporting procedure for when police lose them. State Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, said he introduced the legislation in response to investigations published this year by the Orange County Register and Bay Area News Group revealing that many law enforcement agencies make little or no effort to inventory their weapons and that officers frequently lose their firearms some of which end up on the street.

A video depicting a red-haired boy in search of a mystery girl at his high school has captivated the internet, but not for the reason you might think. The beginning of the ad focuses on a teenager named Evan, whos anxious for summer break. So anxious, in fact, he sketches a message of boredom into the wooden desk he sits at in the school library.

Almost six months ago, the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history at Orlando's Pulse nightclub renewed interest across the country in reasonable limits on guns. But that's not what we're seeing in the opening volley of bills for the next regular session of the Florida Legislature that begins in March. Some gun-loving legislators still believe the Sunshine State needs fewer restrictions, not more, on where people can carry firearms.

Fried chicken and guns may have something in common in Lawrence. You remember, Im sure, the recent proliferation of fried chicken restaurants in town. Such a proliferation with gun shops may be coming. Well, it may be a bit early to go that far, but I do have news of another gun shop that says it plans to open in Lawrence. We previously reported that Lawrence businessman Rick Sells was planning to open a gun shop and indoor gun range in a portion of the building that formerly housed Bargain Depot near 23rd and Harper.

For many of us, deer hunting is a whitetail trilogy and it is chronicled by our choice of weaponry, our gear, and the changing seasons. When we take our muzzleloaders afield here in the Southern Zone of NY (Dec. 12-20) it signals the end to a long, marathon whitetail season; one that starts with balmy temps, green leaves, t-shirts, and biting bugs. The deer season finishes with arctic fronts, white, snow-covered forest floors, insulated boots, and numb fingers.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion. James Burgh, Political Disquisitions: Or, an Enquiry into Public Errors, Defects, and Abuses [London, 1774-1775]. |
