"Most rank and file Republicans know that McCain is a Republican in name only. The bills he is supporting with his Senate Democrat co-sponsors campaign finance reform with Russ Feingold, gun control with Joe Lieberman, and patients bill of rights with Ted Kennedy give credibility to the notion of his being a Democrat in Republican clothes..." The British government denied that Queen Elizabeth II promised to donate historical weapons to a Kentucky museum, saying the matter was still under consideration.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the museum had received a commitment from the queen that some of the royal family's extensive collection of historical weapons would be used in the opening exhibit, "Women at Arms".

For many years, "gun safety" remained the virtual property of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other pro-gun organizations who appropriated the term to show that they wanted gun owners to be safe -- and free of governmental regulation...

Lately, though, that's all been changing. For instance...the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence referred to itself and the Center to Prevent Gun Violence (CPGV) as "gun safety organizations."...Dick Dahl

Gun owners who feel they're getting a bum rap in the media aren't suffering from persecution complex; the media have a definite bias against guns and ownership. Two Recent Examples:

Juan Williams on FOX: "I don't understand why we're piddling around. We should talk about getting rid of guns in this country."

Geraldo Rivera on CNBC: "How much longer are we gonna be wrapping he flag of patriotism to justify 250 million guns out there?"

If the U.S. government really wants to protect us from murderous terrorists, why did it force an airline security company to hire non-citizen Muslims from terrorism-friendly nations to operate airport metal detectors?

"In other words, thanks to the EEOC, your last line of defense against murderous terrorists may soon be immigrants from terrorist nations who have been hired as baggage screeners at your local airport. Does that make you feel more secure?"

What's Our National Identity?

"Most critics of a National Identity Card mention Hitler, police stops, and personal privacy to argue against the proposal. Those are good reasons to oppose a National ID Card, but they miss the idea's worst features. A National ID card is *not* really about identity. It is about authorization."...Duncan Frissell

When President Bush signed the 2002 Treasury Appropriations bill Nov. 12, it had no new "gun control" provisions, but it poured yet more new money into BATF.

There was one bright spot: $500,000 to correct the abysmal National Firearms Act records. That registration system is so screwed up it cant be fixed without a long-needed amnesty and re-registration period which BATF has consistently blocked.

A man was "acting suspiciously" outside the White House, which is apparently now grounds for a search of his person.

KABA NOTE: This sounds like the SS were doing their job. But this next quote, after he "volunteered that he had additional weapons in his vehicle" and they found "an SKS assault rifle on the front seat and another rifle with a scope, a bulletproof vest, a Kevlar helmet and a handgun" is bothersome:

"Certainly, any time there is someone with that type of weaponry, that's a serious incident," the source said.

"Any gun-control legislation of any kind is a non-starter now," says Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist.

Buried in this article is a request by Ted Kennedy for NICS data to be cross-referenced against suspected terrorists:

* Decision by the Justice Department bars FBI access to weapon registry for list of detainees

On Wednesday, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote to Ashcroft, "If the Department of Justice is not using the NICS database as part of the investigation, I am very concerned that the FBI is being unnecessarily limited in the tools that it can use to bring the perpetrators of this heinous attack to justice." The NICS is the acronym for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

KABA NOTE: A resident said she had seen the encounter. This is her story of what happened. But we don't know if it is accurate or not, since we know neither who this woman is, nor if she has any relation to the suspect or the officer. And no other versions of this incident have been released as of yet. This story needs more facts before an opinion is reached.
