*Robert Russ Sr., 22, was one of two unarmed civilians shot and killed by Chicago police in a single week, June 1999.
*Gonzalo Martinez, 26, shot and killed by Downey, Calif. police, Feb. 15, 2002.
*Nathanial Jones, 41, died after being beaten by Cincinnati police, Nov. 30, 2003.
"These cases are only a small percentage of the more than 300 unarmed citizens killed each year by police officers who claim they had no other option than to use a service firearm or other means of lethal force."
" 'Other options,' however, to bring people under submission have been made available to various police departments across the country. In the western United States, there is a sweeping trend by police districts to adopt nonlethal weapons." |

"Unbelievably, the City of Cincinnatis 'government officials' have proclaimed that the brutal murder of an inebriated but 'powerful' black man caught on a police video, 'was justified.' Huh? ..."
"The facts: The black man was stretched out on the lawn of a White Castle restaurant. This may have followed or been preceded by bizarre behavior clearly indicating that he was inebriated. Perhaps the 'substance' abused was alcohol, perhaps drugs. He was not hurting or threatening anyone! Restaurant employees did not call police; they did the right thing, and called for Emergency Medical Services. The victim, a human being named Nathaniel Jones, was clubbed to death 'resisting arrest.' " |

In fact had made it abundantly clear they hated this form of government, in fact hated it with a passion. It is treasonous to remold their words to imply otherwise for it is this very act that led to a Constitution not of their making and opened the floodgates to steal all our liberties. "Project Childsafe, a nationwide program aimed at promoting the safe storage of guns in homes, is funded by a $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. A total of 20 million gun locks are being distributed nationwide, including 190,000 in New Jersey."
" 'The objective is to make guns safe and educate gun owners,' Lt. Paul Merkler said."
"According to Lt. Merkler a child's curiosity could lead to tragedy if sufficient precautionary measures aren't taken." |

"Five days later something happened that made me realize that escorts aren't needed just in big cities. That was, of course, the day Dru Sjodin disappeared from the Columbia Mall parking lot. Police say she was kidnapped by Alfonso Rodriguez Jr., who has been convicted for two sexual offenses and assault."
. . . " 'That's not the case in Clearbrook,' she said. 'Too many have the mentality that it can't happen to us where we live. We should hold self-defense classes and awareness classes. We need awareness. People are too lax.' "

"Since the hidden cameras started rolling in Broward Sheriff's Office interview rooms, get a load of what detectives have caught on film -- coming soon to a courtroom near you:"

" 'During the telephone call, the suspect called his girlfriend and gave her instructions on how to dispose of the evidence in the case,' said O'Neil."

"Berrien County police ...handed out Wal-Mart gift certificates in exchange for unloaded guns."
"Participants received a $100 certificate for turning over an assault-style weapon, $50 for a handgun and $25 for a rifle or shotgun." ...
"It's a very easy process. You come in, put your gun on the table, and then we give you a couple of gift certificates from Wal-Mart and then they're on their merry way. There's no name taking or identification requirements. They simply supply the gun to us at the sheriff's department and they get a certificate."
------- The criminals are most assuredly thanking the police department for providing them with an easy way to dispose of the guns they used in crimes with no questions asked. |

"I'm beginning to wonder if the gun makers will ever come to their senses and quit bringing out new rounds."
"It's as if they've gotten on a treadmill and can't get off it. Some of the stuff they're coming out with is about as badly needed as a new batch of product-liability lawyers."
"It's only been a few months since I wrote a column complaining how the gun makers keep roiling the pot with new cartridge introductions, hoping that'll entice shooters to go out and buy new guns."
"It turns out that if anything, I understated the case in that earlier column because I just learned from the latest issue of "Shooting Times" magazine that two additional new rounds have made their appearance." |

"This fall Virginia's deer hunters said goodbye to a long tradition when the openers for the early muzzleloader and general firearms seasons moved from Mondays to Saturdays."
"The change received generally good reviews and also prompted a fair amount of speculation that it could be a step toward changing another Virginia tradition - the ban on Sunday hunting."
"Virginia is one of just a handful of states that allows no hunting on Sunday. The list is shrinking."
"Maryland and West Virginia are among the states that recently have relaxed Sunday hunting bans." |

"Evan Shultz took his hunter's education course when he was 11. Now almost 13, he still hasn't shot at a deer, but the seventh-grader at Purchase Line High School doesn't mind."
"Even when his father, uncle and grandfather got bucks this week and he didn't." ...
"On Wednesday, three generations of the Shultz family loaded up their gear and went hunting in Pine, Indiana County. Paul Shultz, 55, of Cherry Tree, has been hunting for 43 years. His sons, Dave, 32, (Evan's dad), and Greg, 29, have both hunted since they were 12, and Evan's the same."

NEW Zealands finest songstress, Kiri Te Kanawa, turned up in Glasgow last week and gave the receptionist at her Holiday Inn hotel a bit of a shock when she asked the location of the gun store.
The 59-year-old opera dame, who commands around 50,000 per performance, assuages her Maori blood every year with a spot of hunting in the Scottish hills. An expert clay-pigeon shot, she frequently travels with her sporting guns.
The hotel was quick off the mark and summoned the polis, mindful that Glasgow was last week branded, once again, the murder capital of Europe. Well, would you have taken her on?

Although deer-hunting season ends Tuesday, a recent incident in which a house was struck by a hunter's slug highlights a growing problem in a rural county where shotgun hunting is allowed as more and more land is being developed.
One day after David Skelton heard a noise upstairs in his Rockledge Drive home, his wife noticed wallboard dust on the carpeting in a guest bedroom.
"I looked around, and I found a large hole in the wall behind the headboard of the bed ... I could see daylight through the hole."
...saw a hole in the vinyl siding ... saw a 20-gauge shotgun slug on the floor. It struck a bed where, hours earlier, her mother and grandmother had slept. ... |

"The Pennsylvania Game Commission is experimenting with a program that allows would-be hunters to take a portion of their hunter-trapper safety education course on-line or at home. At two hunter safety courses -- one in September, another in October -- the PGC gave students two choices."
"Option one was to attend eight hours of classroom instruction spread over two nights, then spend five hours on a Saturday doing hands-on learning that involved live-fire exercises, shot placement and safe gun handling."
"Option two allowed students to do the classroom portion of the course at home, either on the Internet or using a workbook. They still had to show up on a Saturday, however, for the five hours of hands-on training." |

"It is pathetic to listen to the voices of those incapable of enduring life's simple tasks. They are so accustomed to having all their needs fulfilled they have lost the ability for original thought.
