Responsible gun owners defended themselves last week, but you didn't hear about it in the news. Instructor Andee Reardon joins host Rob Morse to talk about three new examples.

First story- Youre getting out of bed when you hear a loud crash from the back of your home. Someone has broken through your back door.

Second Story- You and your wife are driving into Texas. You notice lights and sirens behind you. You pull over. A car stops behind you and the driver jumps into the back of your truck.

Third story- Youre working in a auto shop. You hear shots coming from the parking lot behind the shop. Together, you and your manager stop mass murder.

What would you do? Text and podcast available at the link. (13 minute audio)

Thats the response he gave to a Justice Department intern who pressed him on the Trump administrations handling of the two issues.

Statistically guns kill significantly more people than marijuana does, the intern said during a Q & A session with the attorney general. You support pretty harsh policies for marijuana and pretty lax gun control laws.

Thats a apples and oranges question, Sessions responded. The Second Amendment youre aware of that guarantees the right of people to keep and bear arms. And I intend to defend that Second Amendment. Its as valid as the First Amendment. Thats my basic philosophical view about it.

The House passed a bill Wednesday that would allow individuals who have permits to carry a concealed firearm in their home state to possess the weapon in other states with concealed-carry laws.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 passed by a 231-198 vote. Most Republicans and six Democrats supported the bill. Fourteen Republicans joined a vast majority of Democrats in opposition to the measure.

It's the first gun measure of any kind considered by Congress in the aftermath of two major mass shootings in Las Vegas and Texas. The bill was backed by the National Rifle Association, which called passage of the legislation "the most far-reaching expansion of self-defense rights in modern American history."

Indianapolis is closer than ever to matching a dubious crime record after a 55-year-old man was gunned down inside his home on Wednesday.

2017 is all but guaranteed to go down as the deadliest in the city's history.

For a short time, it appeared the deadly shooting at a home on Knox street tied the record for most murders in a single year.

IMPD later clarified that was not the case, making some wonder why the city keeps two different numbers for criminal and non-criminal homicides.

Once upon a time, Missouri gun-rights activists proudly upheld this states right to pass and enforce its own laws. If you didnt like them, well, you were free to move to another state. That concept of states rights used to be a bedrock philosophy of the Republican Party in its campaign against federal overreach.

Now, Republicans arent so sure that states know whats best for themselves, and maybe a whole lot of federal intrusion might be the best way to go. On Wednesday, the House of Representatives kneeled to pressure from the National Rifle Association and approved a bill that would allow federal law to supersede the ability of individual states to enforce their own gun laws.

Upon reading the story concerning the sentencing of a career criminal ("Allentown man sentenced in bank, car thefts") and several pages later a letter from a reader who apparently is against the Second Amendment, it is again clear why law-abiding citizens who own firearms mistrust any views or proposals to enact even more laws concerning lawful ownership of firearms.

According to the story, the gentleman being sentenced was arrested 20 times, convicted 13 times, paroled 20 times and had that parole revoked 16 times.

Just when we thought the National Rifle Association couldnt be any more repugnant, the extremist gun organization rises to the occasion to prove all of us wrong.

According to new reporting on Thursday, the NRA has dropped tens of thousands of dollars into the upcoming Alabama Senate race in support of GOP nominee and alleged child molester Roy Moore.

The Hill reports: The powerful pro-gun lobbying group spent nearly $55,000 paying for mailers on Tuesday that take aim at Jones, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

As an interesting aside, Mr. Wythe mentioned that Australias homicide rate has dropped by 47 percent in the approximately 20 years since they passed their draconian gun laws. This number is correct. What Mr. Wythe doesnt tell you is that Americas gun homicide rate fell by 49 percent during roughly that same time period. And this was during a time that saw gun ownership and concealed carry laws skyrocket in America.

So, Mr. Wythe and Mr. Ramsey, if you want to try Australias gun laws, feel free to move to Sydney. Ill keep my liberty.

Prosecutors say a Kansas City man won't be charged in his ex-girlfriend's shooting death after he cited self-defense in a case that has sparked outrage from the woman's relatives.

Jessika Peppers, 32, of Osceola, was killed about three months ago after she went to David Love's home in the middle of the day to retrieve an iPhone and laptop, The Kansas City Star reports. Love told investigators he was sleeping when he heard someone breaking in and pulled his gun out from under his bed, a police report says. He said he fired as soon as he saw someone coming into his room and that he hadn't recognized his ex-girlfriend.

Texas as an American state, like Texas as a republic before that and Texas as a Mexican state before that, survived only because armed civilians did what their government could not dokeep them safe, keep them alive. Without guns, there would be no Texas.

The bill's main provision allows gun owners to carry concealed firearms across state lines if they are eligible to possess the weapons under federal law, have a valid photo identification and a valid concealed carry permit issued by their home state.

U.S. Rep. John Katko, an original cosponsor of the concealed-carry gun bill, compared it to an individual who has a driver's license. Once they have a driver's license, they are able to drive in another state while abiding by the laws in that state.

The heated debate surrounding a photo of three city contractors carrying firearms continues to ensnare more people, with Alderman Robert Donovan the latest to find himself in hot water. The alderman revealed he had personal knowledge of city employees carrying firearms on the job, something they are forbidden from doing and city officials are required to report.

Yesterday the Common Councils Public Works Committee held a hearing on the controversial photo, which features one individual brandishing a weapon and two others wearing guns in front of a school. The hearing at the outset was a question-and-answer session with Department of Public Works Commissioner Ghassan Korban. Then came a series of controversial comments by Donovan.

The table, chairs and a tin of treats at the combined operations of Kays Antiques & Relics and the Hwy 70 Gun Shop arent part of any merchandise display.

David Dinkela and Kay Pendergrass said the seating is there for conversation.

I tried to pattern this shop after the shops my dad took me to in the 60s and 70s, David said. You can actually walk over and pick up a gun and look at it. The old oak table was for dominos and checkers back in Odessa, and sometimes nothing but coffee and conversation, but its just the way the gun shop was when I was a kid.

One month out from the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, bureaucrats and lawmakers have pivoted away from more firearms restrictions toward the government's failure to maintain its criminal background check system.

Shortly after Sutherland Springs, the Air Force revealed it had failed to report the court martial and discharge for domestic violence of the shooter, former airman Devon Kelley. That report should have prevented him from purchasing the weapons he used to carry out the massacre.

Massie told Courier Journal in an interview on Thursday that he is taking "friendly fire" from the NRA over the proposal backed by liberal Democrats. He said his Second Amendment credentials are impeccable.

"It's an odd day in Washington, D.C., when the NRA supports legislation backed by Sens. (Diane) Feinstein and (Chuck) Schumer," Massie said.

NRA spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen declined to comment for this story, but pointed to the group's fact check website that rebutted most of Massie's claims about the bill.

Massie is the only member of Congress that the group has called out individually on its website.

That year Australia passed the National Firearms Agreement, which banned certain semi-automatic, self-loading rifles and shotguns, and imposed stricter licensing and registration requirements. It also instituted a mandatory buy-back program for firearms banned by the 1996 law. During the buy-back program, Australians sold 640,000 prohibited firearms to the government, and voluntarily surrendered about 60,000 non-prohibited firearms. In all, more than 700,000 weapons were surrendered. Since then, the number and rate of homicides-has fallen drastically. Presently, Australia is considered one of safest countries in the world.
