TSA Employee: "I couldn't imagine my sister or my mother going through that process. I was so upset."

TSA Employee: "The look on their face would almost give you the sense that they felt like they were in a sense being raped. In a sense, being victimized and to a certain extent, they were. "

TSA Employee: "That really incensed me that someone felt that they could just put on some gloves and they could just violate someone to that degree."

TSA Employee: "They actually had the passenger remove the clothing that covered the sensitive area and perform a duck walk to see if something would fall out."

Ron Paul: TSA -- Bullies at the Airport

"...A new TSA policy begun in September calls for invasive and humiliating searches of random passengers; in some instances crude pat-downs have taken place in full public view. Some female travelers quite understandably have burst into tears upon being groped, and one can only imagine the lawsuits if TSA were a private company. But TSA is not private, TSA is a federal agency-- and therefore totally unaccountable to the American people." ...

"TSA has created an atmosphere of fear and meek subservience in our airports that smacks of Soviet bureaucratic bullying. TSA policies are subject to change at any moment, they differ from airport to airport, and they need not be in writing. One former member of Congress demanded to see the written regulation authorizing a search of her person. TSA flatly told her, 'We don't have to show it to anyone.' Think you have a right to know the laws and regulations you are expected to obey? Too bad. Get in line and stay quiet, or we'll make life very hard for you. This is the attitude of TSA personnel."

"According to ABC News 7's I Team servicing the Washington, DC metro area, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is conducting strip searches of passengers at Reagan National Airport ..."

"Their recent on site investigation revealed that some of these searches have taken place in stairwells at the airport which violates even the TSAs own guidelines. After complaints about these strip searches in stairwells which exposed female passengers private parts, the searches were then moved to the manager's officer where a camera - without the knowledge or consent of the passenger being stripped - recorded the violations." ...

"There were also charges that profiling is going on for preselection to be strip searched, i.e. a woman with large breasts. ..."

Ron Paul Denounces National ID Card

National ID cards are not proper in a free society... This is America, not Soviet Russia. The federal government should never be allowed to demand papers from American citizens, and it certainly has no constitutional authority to do so.

A national identification card, in whatever form it may take, will allow the federal government to inappropriately monitor the movements and transactions of every American... History shows that governments inevitably use such power in harmful ways. The 9-11 commission, whose recommendations underlie this bill, has called for internal screening points where identification will be demanded. Domestic travel restrictions are the hallmark of authoritarian states, not free nations. It is just a matter of time until those who refuse to carry the new licenses will be denied the ability to drive or board an airplane.

"A report from the National Safety Council shows that accidental firearm-related fatalities continue to decline and are at the lowest level in the history of record keeping. Statistics in the councils 'Injury Facts 2004' reveal a 54 percent decrease over a 10-year period ending in 2003."

"Last year, 101,537 U.S. residents died in accidents of all types. Less than one percent, 700, involved firearms. The most common deadly accidents involved motor vehicles, falls and poisonings, claiming 72 percent of all accidental deaths." ...

Submitter's Note: The news is even better than this. Firearms ownership is up and the overall population is up, but the absolute number of firearms deaths continues to fall!

"The settlement, reached in September, marked the first time a gun manufacturer paid damages for negligence that led to violence, said David Beninger, one of the attorneys representing the families."

"Washington state Superior Judge Frank Cuthbertson signed the settlement agreement, which will be divided among the eight plaintiffs. The amount to be received by each is still to be determined, said Daniel R. Vice, an attorney with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence."

"It didn't create a stir when 82-year-old Dorcas Lowery took her firearm into the Dolores County Sheriff's Office to ask advice about the proper barrel length for a sawed-off shotgun."

"Lowery got the gun to fend off intruders after a rash of break-ins at her place along U.S. 491. She sawed off the end so the gun would be lighter and easier to handle. She has several other guns and really can't remember a time when guns and outlaws weren't part of her life."

" 'We've always had to have guns to protect the chickens from coyotes and hawks,' says the trim, straight-backed, lipsticked and turquoise-bejeweled octogenarian. 'And Dove Creek was a hideout for outlaws for a long time.' "

"Lowery wanted her new shotgun because she figures that just the sound of the mechanism being pulled back to load the chamber would alert most would-be burglars to the error of their ways."

Detectives in Putnam County have not yet decided whether to arrest a father who says he shot his son in self-defense.

When deputies went to Harding Avenue Tuesday night they found the body of 29-year-old Benjamin Wayne Jones. He'd been shot several times.

Deputies say Jones' 59-year-old father met them in the yard and told them he'd shot his son after Jones attacked him.

Detectives say evidence at the scene supports what Jones's father told them. They'll give their findings over to the State Attorney's Office, which will decide on whether to file charges.

"I refuse to fly anymore. I refuse to be treated like a criminal. And I'm not the only one. Because of the treatment of passengers at our airports by the agents of the Transportation Security Administration, many Americans now refuse to fly if they can drive, or simply decide to stay home. This means fewer paying passengers on our airlines, fewer tourist dollars in vacation spots, and less revenue being generated for our airports and airline infrastructure." ...

"Dont' worry about the airlines. They will go broke until there are only a few left, all subsidized and totally controlled by the government--like Lufthansa and el Al. We'll be told it was because of unions, or rising fuel costs, or other excuses, when in fact it will be because people will no longer wish to fly unless they have to."

"But, Citizen, remember: when you get to the airport, have your papers in order and be ready to be searched. ..."

"Most of the boys in my neighborhood had guns. Surplus 7.62mm Mausers were sold at the local department store for $12.00. Ammo was available at Robbys surplus store. You needed no I.D., permit or anything but two bucks to buy 150 rounds of surplus NATO ammunition. We spent Saturdays at the local trash dump shooting at rats and pretend Nazis. Other days we played war games, had BB battles, played cowboys and Indians and Cops and Robbers. For these, of course, we'd leave the 'Real' guns at home. We somehow knew they weren't toys." ...

"Why is it, then, that 30-40 years ago -- when firearms were virtually never kept under lock and key -- the statistics weren't nearly so dire? Because in those days youngsters were taught to respect firearms."

"Back then we knew that a gun was something that you would be able to use when you reached a certain age and level of responsibility. Handling a firearm was an earned privilege. We were fully aware of what a firearm was capable of, respected that power and aspired to a level where we would be allowed to handle it."

"In those days guns hung over the fireplace, were stored behind doors or in the corner of mud rooms, under beds, behind truck seats, etc. I remember kids on the rifle team riding to school with their rifles on the bus. Access was far easier than it is today, yet society didn't have the problems with gun violence that it has today."
