After about 90 minutes of deliberation, a jury agreed with defendant David Wilsons claim of self-defense, believing Officer Nathan Heidelberg was a home intruder in the early hours of March 5, 2019, KOSA-TV of Odessa, Texas reported.

Heidelberg and other law enforcement officers had gone to the home to check on an alarm that was sounding, authorities said. A Texas Ranger and a police trainee who were at the scene told the court it was possible that Wilson didnt hear Heidelberg when the officer identified himself from outside the door, The Associated Press reported.

A Destrehan man who was shot last month by an angry motorist who had followed him home after he allegedly fled the scene of a fender bender has been arrested on charges including battery and DWI after authorities identified him as the aggressor in the confrontation.

Michael Woulfe, 51, surrendered to authorities at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility in Killona Tuesday after detectives with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant for his arrest, the Sheriff's Office said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

Though sales remain elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels, declines are occurring across all states studied, each of which has its own laws governing background checks. Analysis by SAAF chief economist Jurgen Brauer and The Economist shows a median 31% drop for handguns and 20% for long guns in states won by Donald Trump in the 2020 election, and 27% for handguns and 17% for long guns in states won by Joe Biden.

U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, soon after announcing his candidacy for a third term representing New Hampshires 1st Congressional District last week, slammed one of his six Republican challengers as dangerous and disgusting.

State Rep. Tim Baxter reveled in the criticism of his campaign raffle of an AR-15, which he said in a fundraising email was in honor of the acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse.

Baxter announced the raffle the day after a 15-year-old Michigan high school student allegedly opened fire at fellow students and others, killing four and wounding seven.

Days after taking a forceful and laudable stand against Missouri's Second Amendment Protection Act, disgraced former Gov. Eric Greitens completely reversed himself Saturday and declared his support for the act. His reversal followed a harsh put-down by a conservative gun extremist with a big internet following, which apparently is all it takes to get Missouri's leading GOP Senate candidate to change his mind. Greitens is slightly ahead of another politician with a penchant for bizarre antics, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, in Republican primary polls ahead of next year's U.S. Senate election.

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, backed by a handful of fellow progressives, announced Wednesday she is "leading a resolution to remove" Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican, of her committee assignments in condemnation of her anti-Muslim remarks toward Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

"For a member of Congress to repeatedly use hateful, racists and Islamophobic tropes toward a Muslim colleague is dangerous," Pressley said in a Washington press conference. "This sort of toxic behavior has no place in the halls of Congress and it diminishes the honor of the institution that we all serve in."

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the application for a nearly 52,000-square-foot gun retail and range business on Main Street, after dozens of residents expressed opinions both for and against the project.

The newly approved facility will offer retail sale of firearms, a gun range, gunsmithing, archery sales and service, an archery range, ax throwing, a deli/food service and a state of the art training center for law enforcement, plans show.

Lately there has been a lot of discussion on social media about Texas gun laws and self- defense. Over the last couple of years millions of people have become gun owners after witnessing civil unrest in other cities, the rise in crime in their own cities, and just wanting to be able to protect themselves and their families.

But how sure are gun owners on the actual laws in Texas? On Thursday evening, U.S. Law Shield will hold an event at SS Outfitters located at 6045 Highway 114 near Levelland. The seminar is free and will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m.

The American gun culture of the 21st century isn't just about defending gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, it's also become in too many cases an endorsement of lax behavior around firearms. Politicians who once supported gun rights by pointing to responsible hunters who kept shotguns under lock and key, now prefer to wave around military-style assault weapons or other high-powered weaponry ill-suited to hunting or even self-defense (and often the preferred choice of mass shooters) in inappropriate places as some kind of demonstration of how they oppose gun control measures.

As I write this article, a particularly high-profile trial just ended, and as part of it, the social media activity of the defendant was brought up. This is hardly the first time. Over and over again, we have witnessed that when a case goes to trial, the entire history of the defendant is brought to light, including activity on social media. How should this influence the behavior of concealed carriers nationwide?

Most people in our contemporary time use social media, be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any other big tech platforms. Most people also seem to believe that their writing and sharing on those platforms is confidential or gone if it is deleted. Neither is the case.

Proponents of the measure hope the tides will shift during the 2022 Legislative Session.

Theres no excuse for the Florida Legislature to delay the passage of HB 103, Constitutional Carry, said Matt Collins, Director of Legislation for Florida Gun Rights. With Gov. DeSantis on board, and self-proclaimed pro-gun Republicans in control of both chambers, law-abiding gun owners in Florida deserve to see their elected officials restore gun rights in 2022.

Florida Gun Rights considers the proposal among its top legislative priorities.

"I think there's a lot of common sense consensus on things like universal background checks and red extreme risk protection orders or red flag protections," said O'Rourke.

O'Rourke added that Governor Abbott's signing of the permitless carry bill is dangerous for Texas.

"Any criminal in Texas will be allowed to carry a loaded firearm in public. That's why police chiefs and sheriffs across the state urged the governor not to do this. It will make us less safe in our homes and on the streets," he said. "As governor, I'm going to make sure you protect the Second Amendment and that we have gun sense policies that also protect the lives of those around us."

The hosts of The View were none too impressed by Rep. Lauren Boeberts family Christmas photo this year. On Wednesdays episode of the show, Sara Haines even went so far as to call it trashy.

...

Behar specifically called out Boeberts photo saying we cant even show the picture, its so annoying in which she had her four sons each pose with assault rifles.

These are the most perilous times many Second Amendment watchdogs have ever seen. Our right to keep and bear arms is under constant assault by a troika of would-be infringers: the Biden-Harris administration the most anti-gun group of bullies to occupy the White House in modern times the legacy media, which is aids and abets Bidens every whim regardless of its constitutionality, and the anti-gun industry, which provides the playbook and orchestrates the campaign.

Still, there are glimmers of hope. The light at the end of the tunnel may be dim, but at least its visible.

As we reported yesterday, the Senate Law & Public Safety Committee has gun control on the schedule for Thursday, and a second bill will only pile on to the already bad agenda. S.372 will require all new residents to get an FID card within 30 days and register any guns they might be bringing with them.

SC: Conway Bans Open Carry in Certain Areas

Last Monday, the City Council of Conway passed Ordinance #2021-12-06 (C) to ban open carry in city buildings and during city-permitted events. It goes into effect immediately.

The police chief previously said that limiting open carry is to curtail the potential for gun violence, but he made no mention of how, or if, he intended to prevent criminals who illegally conceal firearms from entering. It is already illegal under state and federal law for criminals, such as convicted felons, to possess or carry firearms, whether openly or concealed. This arbitrary ban is just anti-gun virtue-signaling that only affects law-abiding citizens by dictating how exactly they must exercise a constitutional right already regulated under state law.

True to form, California won before that en banc panel, with dissenting judges urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an appeal. The Supreme Court may well hear the case, although it is impossible to say with certainty. If so, the Justices could go along with Benitezs broad recognition of LCMs as protected by the Second Amendment. Should that happen, the precedent could affect other pending cases as well, including those dealing with prohibitions on the AR-15 and other semiautomatic long guns. Whatever happens, well keep you informed.

As news came from Michigan about yet another shooting by a youngster with a gun, I ran across an item for sale on Amazon that is strikingly similar in appearance to the semiautomatic weapon used at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit. Its a pistol manufactured by Geai, with a pitch that states, The fun of this toy is the realism of its [sic] mechanics. Its recommended for kids over the age of 4. [The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, owns The Post.]

I grew up loving toy guns, primarily six-shooters like the ones used by Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger. To be fair, this playacting didnt promote an interest in firearms later in life. Indeed, I came to favor stricter gun regulations, and my kids never owned guns of any kind.

Hullo, everyone. Im just popping in to let you all know about an online course Im teaching early next year called The History of the Second Amendment. Its with a new startup called Chapter, which noticed that pretty much every course they were offering was either progressive or progressive-adjacent, decided that it didnt want to become an echo chamber, and so asked me to teach one, too. I suggested the history of the right to keep and bear arms as a topic, they agreed, and here were are.

After months of first being informed, and hearing again from multiple people Monday, Union County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution making the county a Second Amendment sanctuary.

Second Amendment sanctuary is a local government entity that has approved a resolution rejecting the enforcement of state or federal gun laws perceived to threaten the Second Amendment which is about gun ownership. Those threats include red flag laws, gun background check procedures and bans on assault-style weapons.

Yes, a person held the gun and used it to kill four students, but there were many more people involved. In my view anyone who owns a gun, anyone who supports the Second Amendment without adequate controls and anyone who belongs to the NRA played a role in the deaths of those students. The deaths of those students, along with countless other gun deaths in the U.S. every year, count for nothing unless the attitude toward gun ownership changes.

Every gun needs to be registered. Every gun owner needs to be vetted to ensure that they have the mental capacity to own a gun responsibly. Automatic weapons and high-capacity clips need to be banned.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property . . . Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them. Thomas Paine, Thoughts on Defensive War (1775).
