In July of 2009, the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) mysteriously told federal gun dealers doing business in Pennsylvania that they were required to report to the PSP all purchasers' identity and item serial number information for transfers of certain long gun "frames" or "receivers" for guns such as the popular AR-15 rifle, just like Pennsylvania's Uniform Firearms Act (UFA) requires for handguns. Some gun dealers told the State Police "no way," . . .
And a few days ago, without fanfare, the PSP quietly rescinded their July 2009 rule by way of its January 2010 Pennsylvania Gun Dealer Newsletter.
What's left to do now? According to Banks, the State Police must "destroy the records collected by the illegal edict."

Ive been endorsed by a number of the tea party groups, notably in Kane and Henry Counties, Hultgren told me between campaign stops last week. A lawyer and former state representative and DuPage County Board member, the 43-year-old Hultgren has emerged in the state senate as the heir to former Sen. (and now Judge) Ed Petka as the premier conservative firebreather. Whether the issue is earmarks or the Second Amendment (Hultgren has the National Rifle Association endorsement for Congress) or abortion, one can usually find the gentleman from the 48th senatorial district in the middle of the fight and at a predictable volume: loud. |

Instead of its eleventh annual national conference this year, one national grassroots organization is scheduling regional, state, and local conferences around the country, focusing on ways to elect only those representatives who will publicly sign a pledge that includes ideas such as these:
I will vote for only that legislation which contains a citation to the specific authority granted in Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.
I will vote against any legislation that infringes the individual right to keep and bear arms.

It's a hidden change -- that's the point.
Almost 10 times as many Doa Ana County residents are permitted to carry a concealed firearm today than were six years ago, when the state's concealed-carry laws went into effect.
Many want to prevent becoming a first-time victim of crime -- or prevent it from ever happening again.
One Las Cruces single mother, a former law enforcement officer who requested anonymity due to concerns about her safety, said self-protection was the motivation to get a permit in 2005. |

Police think the following occurred: Saturday night, someone broke into the house and stole guns and keys.
This afternoon, about 12:30 or 12:45 p.m., a male, 26, who lives at the home was inside the carport when he heard a commotion in the backyard, Matthews said. He walked over to investigate and was confronted by four men.
The male managed to shoot all four trespassers, Matthews said, but he was shot in the back in the process. All the trespassers are younger than 18.
...
Matthews did not have the shooters identities available this afternoon. She said the male in the carport may have acted in self-defense, but the investigation is still under way.
It appears that he was, but it is very, very early, she said. |

McDonald, a Democrat and longtime hunter, jokes that he was chosen as lead plaintiff because he is African-American.
And no matter what the court and the public might make of his story or his case, legal experts say McDonald is poised to become an enduring symbol.
"Regardless of how this case goes, Mr. McDonald's name is set in legal history, at the same level as Roe v. Wade and Plessy v. Ferguson," said Nicholas Johnson, a law professor at Fordham University. "Schoolkids are going to recognize that in this case, something dramatic happened." |

A proposal to allow guns in Indianapolis parks will go before the City-County Council Monday, a measure its sponsor admits will be controversial.
Current law bans weapons in city parks, but they are permitted in state parks and will soon be allowed in national parks, 6News' Joanna Massee reported.
If passed, the law would allow anyone with a permit to carry a weapon to do so in a city park.
City-County Councilor Ed Coleman, a member of the National Rifle Association, said he's ready to debate the merits of his proposal. |

One persistent online commenter insisted recently, "Since you brought the issue up, again, Mr. Mitchell, please point out to me language in the Constitution that permits a corporation to petition the government for redress. And since there is no such language, how can such a right be claimed by corporations?"
The Constitution does not permit. It does not dispense rights. It grants limited powers to the various branches of government and then provides checks and balances. Such as Article 1, Section 8: "The Congress shall have power to ..."
The Bill of Rights does not grant rights, either. Those 10 amendments limit the power of government to encroach on the rights presumed to belong to all of us. |

The right to keep and bear arms if closely linked to the right to hunt. Yet many hunters fail to appreciate the danger of losing their rights to hunt because of a pending gun law.
The reverse is true of many gun owners that are quick to leap to the defense of their RTKABA but take a wait and see posture when hunters rights come into question.
To take it one steps further the ability to manage and conserve our natural wildlife is ultimately dependent on the ability of hunters to remove game and keep animal populations in balance. Simply put without Hunters we have no conservation only the flawed science of preservation. |

On Wednesday, January 20, Colorado State University (CSU) formally announced their draft proposal to prohibit firearms on all CSU campuses.
Exempt from the ban would be weapons used by law enforcement, military and the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).
This draft policy will be brought up for consideration at the CSU Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, February 23. A copy of the draft can be found at www.safety.colostate.edu/files/weapons_policy_draft_01_15_10.pdf.
...
It is important that the people of Colorado voice their concerns to the CSU President that the policy must uphold the Colorado law and allow permit holders to carry concealed for self-defense. |

"A massacre in the House of Delegates," he determines. "You know, they can carry (guns) in that building."
This year, Goddard is fighting more than 30 bills that include easing restrictions on concealed carry permits, repealing the one-gun-a-month law and expanding where guns can be taken. Goddard is also up against a powerful lobby the National Rifle Association spent more than $900,000 last year supporting Gov. Bob McDonnell, Republicans and pro-gun Democrats.
Del. Watkins M. Abbitt Jr. said the shootings in his hometown did nothing to dissuade his support for robust gun rights.
"Well, we have this little thing called the Second Amendment," said Abbitt, an independent who represents Appomattox. |

Sheriff John Blansett talked about the sheriff's office, its powers and function Saturday at the Second Amendment Task Force town hall-style meeting at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
"The sheriff's department isn't mine," Blansett said to begin. "I borrowed it from you folks for eight years to protect you folks from tyranny, domestic and foreign, and to enforce the laws of the state of New Mexico."
Blansett, whose term is up in November, introduced the three candidates running for sheriff, who were in attendance John Lee, Benny House and Bill May. He said when he retires he is going to be a counselor for the visually impaired and is already working for the Commission for the Blind. |

Left-wing hyperbole aside, individuals who were previously barred from advocacy will now have a voice through their associations and unions. Individual musicians can band (pun intended) together and advocate through ASCAP. Teachers will now have a voice through the NEA or AFT.
Sportsmen and Second Amendment advocates will now have their voices heard through previously barred NRA ads in the critical run-up to elections.
Those who hate this decision fear that the media choke hold on editorials and advocacy will be diminished. Their supporters like George Soros, Move-On and the Tides Foundation will now have some competition in the marketplace. |

Before the end of December, Verma and his friends had applied for gun licenses. He read up on India's gun laws and joined the Web forum Indians for Guns. ...
"I feel safe wearing it in my ankle holster every day," said Verma, 27, who runs a family business selling fire-protection systems. "I have a right to self-protection, because random street crime and terrorism have increased. The police cannot be there for everybody all the time. Now I am a believer in the right to keep and bear arms."
Verma said he plans to join the recently formed National Association for Gun Rights India to lobby against new gun controls that the government has proposed, blaming the proliferation of both licensed and illegal weapons for a rise in crime. |

With session in full swing in Colorado, more pro-gun bills are beginning to move in the State Legislature.
Two important pro-gun bills, Senate Bill 51 and House Bill 1094, have been introduced and referred to the appropriate committees, where they currently await action.
Sponsored by State Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), SB 51 would remove the Governors ability to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of firearms during a declared state of emergency. After Hurricane Katrina, law-abiding gun owners were left defenseless against looters, arsonists and other criminals after the New Orleans police superintendent ordered the confiscation of firearms. |

The federal government is claiming in court documents demanding the dismissal of a gun-law challenge in Montana the authority to regulate intrastate commerce under the Constitution's Commerce clause.
But the plaintiff in the case says the court needs to review that provision in its amended form since the 10th Amendment, adopted after the Commerce Clause, can be viewed as modifying the Constitution's provisions regarding the regulation of commerce, specifically granting additional authority to states.
The argument is arising in a lawsuit filed in Montana against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and others. |

For parts of two days, the 48-year-old woman was confined in the Summit County Jail before she made bail.
Her crime: refusing Officer Schismenos' demands that she turn over the camera she used to document his arrest of a rowdy drunk.
A short time later, Schismenos was back at the department, writing out a felony criminal warrant for Watkins, charging her with tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.
He also filed a misdemeanor warrant of obstructing justice for her daughter. |

"Besides which, the whole 'list' question" assumes government will end up going door-to-door confiscating. If such a thing happens, my assessment is most of us (or you) will probably have enough advance indicators to see what's going down, the logistics of mass national confiscation being what they are with the sheer number and widespread distribution of gun owners. If it ever does happen, all this talk is going to be academic anyway, and you're going to have some choices to make that will require a lot more soul-searching than taking advice from some guy on the internet." |

I think it is wise to avoid any armed confrontation if possible. Trust me you are not a coward if you avoid the possibility of being shot in the head.
You are not expendable - neither are the lives of your family or those in your bug-out group. Those with the macho kill 'em all attitude will not last very long.
With that being said, a semi-auto military type rifle could be considered especially if you are trying to get from an urban area to the country, where facing organized gangs or other threats attempting to block your exit could be a possibility.
An AR-15 with collapsible buttstock or folding stocked AK could help get you out of a dangerous situation. |
