A Democratic Virginia legislators complete lack of firearms knowledge was on full display when he stopped by a town hall meeting to speak about his push to ban assault weapons (video below).

According to Virginia Delegate Mark Levine, the factor that sets assault weapons apart from hunting rifles lies in how you hold the gun.

During a town hall meeting at the Mount Vernon Community School on Jan. 25, Levine also took aim at high-capacity magazines, which he claimed become red-hot when they are seated into a weapon thats being actively fired.

Spurred by events in Virginia, where the Democratic governor and Democratic majorities in both chambers have pushed for a host of gun-control measures, Second Amendment advocates in Kentucky have looked to stave off any firearms regulations in Frankfort.

A handful of firearms-related bills have been proposed in the 2020 legislative session. One aims to repeal last years passage of a law allowing people to carry concealed guns without a permit; another would require background checks for private firearms sales and mandatory reporting of lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement.

The Daily Courier reports that the Yavapai County board in December and January heard hours of testimony from dozens of people on the proposal.

The Yavapai County resolution pledges the supervisors to defend state and federal constitutional rights, including the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment.

While many Second Amendment supporters look over how laws will affect them, the fact is gun laws dont just hit gun owners. The Federal Firearms Licensees the gun dealers and manufacturers also can be targeted by legislation that can infringe on the Second Amendment, or which can help protect Second Amendment rights. One such piece of legislation that does the latter is S 1778, the Federal Firearms Licensee Protection Act of 2019, introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham.

Hundreds of Second Amendment advocates carried rifles, flags and signs Friday as they rallied outside the Roundhouse and urged lawmakers to reject a proposed red flag law.

They cheered and prayed for President Donald Trump, and booed at the mention of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and other Democrats.

The rally came amid tightened security at the Capitol where firearms, normally permitted, were prohibited in some areas, such as the galleries overlooking the House and Senate.

Three Bedford County citizens including Chad Oaks, Anthony Burke and Scott Sewing came before their countys board of supervisors at its Jan. 27 regular meeting Monday, asking for the countys support in forming a militia, entirely comprised of volunteer citizens.

I think a county directed, county controlled and county leadership appointed militia is something that would benefit our county at this point, Sewing said. I believe that its crucial for a citizen to possess the ability to defend themselves. I believe that and I believe thats what the second amendment represents.

The crowd was mostly men and mostly armed. Many were wearing camouflage.

And their rally Friday had one central theme: Kentuckians would resist any attempts to chip away at their Second Amendment right to have guns.

We cant just whittle away one little piece here, one little piece there, said Calen Studler of Frankfort. Then the (U.S. Constitution) doesnt mean what it says anymore.

For decades now, The Day's editors have run a hysterical and biased campaign cunningly designed to help deprive Americans of their Second Amendment rights. If there is a shooting anywhere, you print full details of the tragedy, and then milk it for all it is worth. Callously using the victim's injuries and deaths to promote your immoral agenda has become a sickening spectacle that is recognized by many readers as a tragic misuse of your power. It's a violation of your self-described mandate to: "be the champion and protector of the public interest and defender of the people's rights." If you think the public isn't well aware of your thinly disguised tactics, you're sadly mistaken.

A pro-gun rally drew a couple hundred people to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough building in Palmer to protest potential limits on shooting ranges.

In September, the Mat-Su Borough Assembly narrowly passed a resolution asking for an ordinance that would create a conditional use permit for new educational, nonprofit and commercial outdoor shooting ranges.

Rally organizer LD Howard said he and other gun advocates dont want any regulations when it comes to their second amendment rights.

A lot of the U.S., a lot of the Lower 48 is watching Alaska because theyre looking at us as a barometer because if it can happen here it can happen anywhere, he said.

Currently, under Utah law, individuals can privately sell a gun to someone else without a background check. House Bill 109, authored by Rep. Brad King, D-Salt Lake City, would require background checks for all gun sale transactions; exceptions would be made for firearms transferred between family members or those handed over to law enforcement agencies, among other circumstances.

In order to transfer ownership of a firearm legally under HB 109, private parties would have to involve a federal firearms licensee who can provide the necessary paperwork and background check for a reasonable fee.

Whats often overlooked when evaluating firearms platforms for home defense, however, is the type of ammunition selected. For instance, its a commonly held, but mistaken, notion that 00 buckshot is a better option for in-home use than a rifle round like the 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. As Federal Premiums FBI testing data demonstrates, nine pellet 00 Tactical Buckshot will penetrate through 20 inches of wallboard, whereas the 55-grain Sierra BTHP penetrates just 12.5 inches. As a point of comparison, the 9 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP HST rounds all penetrate between 10-12.25 inches in wallboard.

So, Uintah guns? Because Uintah County is.

The county became the first Second Amendment sanctuary county in Utah on Wednesday after the Uintah County Commission unanimously passed the ordinance.

Therefore, the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental individual right that shall not be infringed, the ordinance reads.

The protections listed in the ordinance do not apply to convicted felons and those legally prohibited from owning firearms, the document clarified.

Hundreds rallied outside the Capitol building in Santa Fe on Friday afternoon in opposition to a proposal backed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to allow police to seize firearms from people deemed to be an extreme risk to themselves or others.

The Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order Act is one of the governors top priorities during the 30-day 2020 legislative session. Lujan Grisham and other supporters say it would make it easier to thwart mass shootings and suicides.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821)
