Further reinforcing the image of Democrats as the party of gun control, Reuters reported over the weekend that the party is feeling its oats and pushing for stricter gun laws.
But that leaves Second Amendment advocates pushing more legal actions, hoping that with a more conservative U.S. Supreme Court, the dam may burst and justices will finally start drawing more boundaries on just how far a constitutionally-enumerated fundamental right can be eroded. The courts recent decision to accept a case challenging a handgun restriction in New York City might have been the signal gun rights activists have been waiting for. |

The Supreme Court has been in the news a lot lately on issues of interest to Second Amendment supporters, both between the uncertain health of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the fact the high court is taking up a Second Amendment case. There have been reported sightings of Justice Ginsburg since her cancer surgery, but that hasnt tamped down the notion of a potential court fight.

For years the Giffords Law Center (GLC) has released its annual scorecard on how well states gun laws match its bias toward more infringement of the Second Amendment. It then proves that those infringements of law-abiding citizens rights reduce gun deaths in those states. Its latest release illustrates the point. Consider its ranking of Wyoming, a state that historically has allowed its citizens maximum freedom in exercising their Second Amendment rights. |

Already boasting some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, the New York State Legislature passed a series of bills that made gun laws even tougher, but left a sharp divide among political parties. With a Democratic majority in the state senate and assembly leading the way, new gun control legislation passed easily last week as Albany continues to move forward with a progressive agenda promised by Gov. Andrew Cuomo during his State of State address last month.

Just days after the Jan. 29 deadline to register, about 75 per cent of long guns estimated to be in the province have not been registered. And the Presse Canadienne confirmed on Wednesday that at least 15 municipalities have adopted resolution against the registry.
Philip Ttrault, mayor of Warden, a town of 400 inhabitants about 100 kilometres east of Montreal, said that the registry is pointless and will end up like its federal counterpart, which was abolished by the Conservative government in 2012 after major cost overruns.
The register may be popular in Montreal and Quebec City, Ttrault said in an interview. But the majority of people in Warden are against it.

Landon Badac first picked up a gun at around 4 years old. My grandpa, who was a big influence in my life in the outdoors, taught me how to shoot very early, gun safety, and how to live in the outdoors, pretty much, the Armstrong High School senior explained. Hes a very avid hunter, and Ive been hunting with him ever since then.
Badac picked up his grandfathers habits, becoming a frequent hunter and fisherman himself.
And when he heard his high school was starting a rifle program, he said he signed up as soon as the first meeting.
Rifle is one of five sports the WPIAL oversees during the winter season, with championships dating to 1942.

Indiana school districts would be able to seek state money to provide gun training for teachers under a bill endorsed by a legislative committee. The bill that advanced Monday joins other Republican-backed proposals regarding firearms moving in the Legislature. Those include eliminating fees on five-year handgun licenses and providing more immunity from lawsuits to people who shot an attacker under the state's "stand your ground" self-defense law.

Gun rights activists are scheduled to be in court this week, arguing Vermont's ban on high-capacity magazines violates the state Constitution. The lawsuit was filed soon after Vermont's ban on magazines took effect last year, and argues the ban violates Article 16 which provides the right to have a gun for self-defense. WCAX-TV reports the activists will be in court Tuesday in Montpelier. |

Recently the comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (the same creator of Borat, Bruno, and Ali G) released the first episode of his new Showtime series called Who Is America? where he poses as an Israeli "anti-terror" expert, Col. Erran Morad. The first episode has caused a lot of controversy, and for good reason: Several well-known gun rights advocates proclaim their support of arming children in school to "stop bad guys," even going so far as advocating for arming toddlers via a fictitious "Kinder-Guardian" program presented by Cohen's character.

In 2014, responding to the increasing popularity of mounting a reflex sight directly to the slide of a semi-automatic pistol, USPSA introduced Carry Optics (CO) as a provisional division. It was originally envisioned as nothing more than a Production division handgun with a slide-mounted reflex sight. The chosen gun had to be on the approved Production Pistol list and the holster and magazine pouch requirements were the same. Regardless of the caliber chosen (9mm, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, 10mm and .45 ACP were authorized), CO would be scored as Minor (125 PF). The only break from Production rules was that magazines of 141.25mm were allowed, but could only be loaded to the 10-round Production capacity limit.
