"Larger than life images of law enforcement officers confiscating legally-possessed firearms from New Orleans residents, who were accused of no crimes, played on video screens at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., on Saturday."
"National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre urged the audience to 'Remember New Orleans!'"
"'We're gonna make New Orleans the worst nightmare the gun ban crowd has ever seen, I promise you that,' LaPierre told listeners ..."

"When you live in mortal fear of something like many gun control advocates do, it seems that nothing is off the table where debate (I use the term loosely) techniques are concerned. Even when there's little for them to use in the way of argument fodder, they'll take what there is and fold, bend, spindle and mutilate it to suit their needs at the time. On some occasions, when there's nothing at all to use they'll simply fabricate their 'evidence.' And, like so many falsehoods or misrepresentations, the more the lies are repeated, the more believable they become to the credulous members of the public." ... |

"Cartridge making is a complicated science. A manufacturer has to engineer reliability into the cartridge. Even the slightest degree of variance from cartridge to cartridge could produce disastrous results."
"For example, a millimeter change in the overall length can change its velocity. In a semi automatic, the base of the cartridge is clamped firmly against the breech area where the firing pin protrudes when ready to fire. When the powder is ignited, the bullet jumps a gap from the case mouth, which holds the bullet firmly in the cartridge, to the rifling. A certain percentage of the burning gases will escape around the moving bullet until it creates a seal with the barrel. ..." ... |

"Nothing matches the versatility of the police-issue shotgun. In the right hands, it is fast and accurate at typical encounter distances and packs enough of a wallop to stop deadly threats instantly. Its flexibility in ammunition selection is unmatched by any other weapon, and its lack of large magazine capacity is not a detriment if officers can be properly taught how to reload when empty."
"Unlike other police firearms, in an emergency the shotgun can be quickly reloaded with one shell by dropping it directly into the ejection port. This technique is called speedloading and is a necessary component of basic shotgun training. Unfortunately, the shotgun speedload technique can be taught incorrectly. ..." ... |

"I was struck by the positive spin attached to the Associated Press article appearing this morning in the Cleveland Plain Dealer, entitled 'Cheney peppers fellow Texas hunter with shotgun blast'?"
"One rarely hears of convenience store clerks merely being 'peppered'. Generally the term used for this sort of incident would be more along the lines of 'gunned down'. Mobsters are 'taken out'. You can be 'done-in'. Shootings are usually described as 'tragic', 'inexplicable', 'justifiable' or 'under investigation'. They may be 'drive-by', 'drug-related', or 'in self-defense'. More often 'in Cold Blood'."

Police say an Alexandria man was shot and killed during what is believed to have been a failed holdup attempt.
Lieutenant Mike Rennier says 29-year-old Walter Louis Walker was shot in the head at least two times yesterday by a clerk when he attempted to rob Tobacco Hut Number Two.
The clerk told police that Walker approached the counter and demanded money while holding his hands in his pockets as if holding a gun.
Rennier said the clerk then shot Walker and called police to the scene. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police found no weapon, and concluded he had only pretended to have a gun.
Rennier says an initial investigation indicates the shooting was an act of self-defense. The shooting remained under investigation. |

"Kentucky gun owners want deeper cover for concealed-carry. House Bill 920 would conceal permit holders' names - which are now public record - from the press or public view. HB 920 cleared the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and is expected to pass the House. A similar bill was introduced in the Ohio House last September but has yet to make it out of the Criminal Justice Committee."

They say public access to their names makes them a target for robbers and burglars and defeats the purpose of keeping criminals in the dark about who is carrying. ...
