Freshman Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn has dispelled any doubt that he is a disciple of far left liberal politics with his reaction to Seattles expected loss in court Friday over the illegal parks gun ban.
He wants the legislature to change this states 26-year-old preemption statute just so the city can institute the ban that Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer just voided. McGinn evidently drinks the same water as ousted former Mayor Greg Nickels, under whose arrogant mismanagement the ban was adopted last fall.
The ban was Nickels response to a shooting at the 2008 Folklife Festival, but as KING5 News has revealed, the victims in that shooting are against the ban. |

First let me wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day!
Each month we try to cover as much of the information that is directly relevant to the gun control/second amendment debate. It is growing increasingly difficult to be able to present these issues in a way that will not overwhelm the average individual.
We face so many overt issues such as preemption violations, covering legislative issues at the state and federal level-pro and anti-gun, educating legislators on the issues, etc. that the more underhanded and sinister attacks on our freedoms are difficult to document and report on in a timely fashion. |

"Two Maryland state legislators are attacking the individual Second Amendment civil right to keep and bear arms of law-abiding citizens of the so-called Free State," gun rights expert John M. Snyder charged here today.
"It's time for freedom-loving people to teach these and other arrogant politicians a Massachusetts lesson, to send the anti-gun creeps to the bone yard, and to deep-six their legislative monstrosity," he continued.
Snyder said that, "Sen. Brian E. Frosh, the madman from Montgomery County, and Del. Samuel I. Rosenberg, the bully from Baltimore, have teamed up for introducing legislation to create a multiplicity of onerous administrative and bureaucratic roadblocks for the mere acquisition of a handgun. |

The simple truth is that when the public is deprived of gun ownership, only criminals will possess them, for they are not burdened by compliance with laws.
Obviously, the only people benefiting from such laws are the ones we wish to restrict. To increase public safety, it is logical that exercising the Second Amendment should be encouraged, not stifled.
We have nothing to fear from law-abiding citizens who carry guns. In fact, such a person may save your life one day. |

It's hard to disagree that theres a difference between race, sexual orientation, and carrying a firearm, and I think most reasonable people would agree that racism has been far more of a scourge in our society than discrimination based on less immutable characteristics, such as gun ownership. But I think the Brady Campaign is really missing the larger picture when it comes to how we treat rights of citizens, weather based on immutable or non-immutable characteristics. We protect against much discrimination based on non-immutable characteristics in our society. Especially expressions and behaviors protected in our constitutional structure. |

Among the many groups that opposed Barack Obamas presidential race, few were more certain or vehement than gun rights organizations. "Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history," the National Rifle Association announced. "Obama is a committed anti-gunner," warned Gun Owners of America.
So its no stunner that after a year in office, the president is getting hammered by people who have no use for his policy on firearms. The surprise is that the people attacking him are those who favor gun control, not those who oppose it. |

"Any step toward allowing the people the right to self defense is a good thing," said Daniel Crocker, Southwest Regional Director for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, quoted by the news provider.
He added, however, that his organization believes the right should also be extended to students.
As expected, not everyone is happy with the possibility. For example, Andy Pelosi the Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus told ABC that introducing guns will make campuses less safe. "More guns are going to create more problems," he stated.
In the past year gun-rights proponents, such as Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as well as the Second Amendment Foundation, have registered some significant victories. |

The Brady Bill requires a five-day waiting period before handgun purchases by an individual. The law also requires a background check on potential handgun buyers to determine whether they have a criminal record.
During Mack's tenure, federal officers informed county sheriffs in Arizona and across the county that they would be required to enforce the "Brady Bill" and run background checks at their expense.
In 1994, Mack, Printz and five other sheriffs from across the country challenged the legality of the bill and ultimately fought it all the way to the Supreme Court. Three years later, in a landmark 5-4 split decision based on the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, Mack and the other sheriffs won their case. |

Despite occasional rhetoric to the contrary, the Brady Campaign has always wanted nothing less than a total ban on guns. Theyve lost much of their political relevance over the years, and now are desperate to regain some by any means possible. Today its a petition attacking Starbucks. Tomorrow its every public place. Next week its your home, and next month its no guns anywhere. And were back to the anti-gunners very flawed square one: disarm the law-abiding, while leaving the thugs, gang-bangers, and drug dealers armed. Thats their plan for a safer world where we dont have fear or intimidation. |

The Fifth Annual 2nd Amendment Rally date has been set for 10 AM on April 27, 2010 in Harrisburg, Pa. Once again we ask for your help and participation in this event.
We will use this event as a springboard to pass vital pro gun legislation that will affect how FFLs conduct business and your right to bear arms throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
It cannot be repeated often enough that the more interest shown at these kinds of events, the more our elected officials will notice our presence and the more impact our efforts will have throughout the day. |

Several comments later, the detective suggested shooting the gun rights advocates, some of whom have carried firearms openly in recent weeks in California's Bay Area, particularly at Starbucks locations.
"Sounds like you had someone practicing their 2nd amendment rights last night!" Tuason wrote. "Should've pulled the AR out and prone them all out! And if one of them makes a furtive movement 2 weeks off!!!" -- referring to the modified duty, commonly known as desk duty, that typically follows any instance in which an officer is investigated for firing his weapon.
Those comments caught the attention of a California attorney and blogger, as well as a Virginia man who started a Facebook group calling for Tuason's termination. |

Is it not safe to say that certain regulations could be created and enforced without infringing on the rights of Americans, especially since we blatantly deny rights to individuals as it is?
Imagine if every faculty member were bearing arms in the faculty meeting every single one of them. Imagine what situations could have arisen.
Thankfully no others were harmed in the making of this terrible tragedy. However, stray bullets cause sudden deaths in numerous situations, even those who would never seem to turn violent.
What can we do as citizens to better prepare ourselves for a brighter and more secure future? How can we truly feel safe when it is not clear who has a fully loaded temper problem? |

How am I supposed to tell who's dangerous and who's not? A gun certainly makes you look dangerous. I didn't actively protest the political message (as the brave six did) because, truthfully, I wouldn't feel safe if I saw those same people later in a store or at the movies. I certainly didn't want to provoke them.
I also have constitutional rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in my everyday life. People who have guns at movie theaters, restaurants, county offices come on, Ronny and public parks scare me. They are not protecting anyone's rights, they are jeopardizing them.
The rare murders in our quiet little town are usually committed by family members with legal weapons. |

The law has sided with the gun rights advocates who took the city of Seattle and former Mayor Greg Nickels to court over the citys gun ban. King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer on Friday ruled in favor of the Second Amendment Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, Washington Arms Collectors, National Rifle Association and five individual plaintiffs, declaring the city of Seattles gun ban at public places is in direct violation of Washington states firearm pre-emption law. |

Another bill pending before the House Judiciary Committee is House Bill 113, sponsored by Rep. Elaine Quarberg, R-Thermopolis. It would change state law to allow people to carry concealed firearms without needing a state permit. The House voted 52-6 in favor of introducing the bill on Thursday.
"I think the House has always been a strong supporter of any Second Amendment rights bills," Simpson said. "Historically, at least in my time here, they can run into problems in the Senate. I think that in the past, some of that had to do more with personalities than the issue itself. Some of those personalities are gone, and we'll see. I'm not quite sure what will happen with it." |

The law lets residents defend themselves against attackers and to use deadly force even if they could have fled. The states earlier law, called the Castle Doctrine, dates back to medieval England, when a mans home was considered his castle.
Floridas appeals courts are in conflict over the law, with the Fourth District Court of Appeal ruling that immunity should be denied if disputes in facts exist, while the Second District Court of Appeal, which is binding in Collier County cases, has ruled a court cannot deny a motion simply because factual disputes exist. The Florida Supreme Court has yet to clarify the conflict.
But homeowners generally arent prosecuted. |

In Mississippi, as in much of the country, it is getting easier to carry concealed guns.
With Senate passage of a bill this past week to allow handgun-permit holders to carry their concealed guns in most Mississippi parks, as well as in restaurants and other locations, it is becoming difficult to determine who can't legally carry a firearm in the Magnolia State; except for convicted felons, of course.
The bill by state Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Southaven, originally covered only parks. It was amended to let permit holders carry their guns in restaurants, bars and unsecured government buildings unless the owners of those facilities post notices barring guns.

He may well have the skill, training, experience and psychological makeup to size up a situation correctly and then calmly act, but most sidearm carriers are not so qualified.
While it is necessary in this society for well-trained police officers and military personnel to bear arms, the many poorly trained civilian gun carriers, incapable of making calm, rational decisions in a stressful situation, terrify me.
A person openly carrying a firearm likely feels that he or she has the solution at hand to whatever is troubling him. "To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail," Mark Twain wrote.
To a man with a gun, everyone looks like a target. |

The latest in Tom Baugh's six-part series:
When Forrest County, Mississippi, Sheriff Billy McGee liberated two ice-laden FEMA trucks in 2005 in the wake of Katrina, he probably didnt intend to spark secessionist ideas in others. Yet, his landslide re-election in 2007 spoke volumes about how eager local citizens, particularly in rural communities, are to stand behind their local servants who keep community interests in mind. But to the nationals, his actions were intolerable. So, he and three of his deputies have been charged with national crimes against the people. His case is an abject lesson of how, in normal times, in the real world, no good deed truly goes unpunished. |

Perhaps it is symbolic that Amy Bishop, an association Biology professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, is the latest data point in a long history showing that most multiple murders occur in gun-free zones.
Bishop was in a department meeting discussing her proposed tenurea lifetime job guaranteewhen apparently she sensed that things werent going her way. She drew a gun and began shooting, killing the Biology Department chair and two other faculty members.
As with nearly all post-secondary institutions, people are banned from carrying guns on campus. |
