Guns rights groups are mobilizing supporters to block Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's appointee to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission.
Whitmer named former Grand Rapids Mayor George K. Heartwell, a Democrat from Newaygo, to the commission on Feb. 7.
Heartwell has long been an outspoken advocate for gun control. The Grand Rapids Press reported he criticized Congress in 2014 for its inaction on regulating weapons and his belief that "guns make us less safe."
Heartwell also is active in environmental groups. He serves on the Environmental Law and Policy Center Advisory Board and the Great Lakes Water Quality board.

Billionaire Johnny-come-lately presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg is gearing up for some important primaries next month, with a candidates statementat least in the Washington State Voters Pamphletthat extolls his virtues but strangely downplays one important part of his story.

Majority Michigan State Senators, in a rare move, are rejecting an appointment by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. Only one Republican Senator voted in favor of the appointment of Anna Mitterling to the NRC. Another Republican was absent from the vote. Theres talk at the Capitol that the vote is a response to another of Whitters NRC appointments. Whiter named former Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell to be Chair of the NRC. Opposition to his appointment is significantly noisier than the opposition to Mitterling. Many conservatives say to have someone with the open anti-firearms views of Heartwell leading the panel that among other things, sets hunting regulations in Michigan, is too much to accept. |

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that a federal lawsuit has been filed against Armslist.com by the widow of slain Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer, with support of the Brady gun-control organization. Bauer was killed in February 2018 allegedly by a convicted felon identified as Shomari Legghette, using a pistol that, according to the report and the lawsuit, passed along through both licensed and private sales until it wound up in the hands of the suspect, who could not legally possess a firearm. |

One of the most obvious ways to reduce felt recoil is to add weight to our firearms. Henry offers two .44 Magnum leverguns, one much heavier than the other. I have also had some leverguns, especially those chambered in .45-70 rebarreled with heavier octagon barrels. Until this past year from the time of my surgery I had not shot anything heavier than a .243 rifle but I wanted to shoot something heavier. Finally, I saw the solution. |

For clarification, the definition of due process, as outlined in both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, prohibits the government from taking any action that would deprive a person of life, liberty or property without due process of law. This includes a hearing before an impartial person, representation by an attorney, calling witnesses on ones behalf, to be confronted with the witness against you and to cross-examination of witnesses, a written decision with reasons based on evidence introduced, a transcript of the proceeding, and an opportunity to appeal the decision before the government takes a citizens property. |

Last week, anti-gun group Moms Demand Action heavily promoted National Gun Violence Survivors Week on their website and on social media. The group posted tragic stories of those who have been affected by or survived gun violence. Youd have to be a robot not to flinch while reading them.
Yet, the women reading these stories should also be aware of an equally important demographic: those who have been the victims of crimes because they werent able to defend themselves by using a firearm. The latest Department of Justice crime statistics shows that while crime overall has declined, rape and other sexual crimes have increased. |

Compromise is a sneaky way of slipping a ban past Virginia voters.
Thats exactly what Virginias House of Delegates did, led by Delegate Mark Levine. He authored HB 961, a bill to ban assault firearms that was passed by a three-vote margin. The bill would ban the sale of semiautomatic firearms that are commonly used for self-defense, recreational and competitive shooting and hunting, as well as suppressors. Standard capacity magazine possession would become a crime. It now heads to the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee. |

Legislation to allow law enforcement officials to temporarily confiscate firearms if their owners are a risk to themselves or others has remained stalled in committee for a year.
The extreme risk protection order or red flag bills would allow law enforcement officials to get a court order to seize weapons under such circumstances. Seventeen states have red flag laws, including Illinois and Indiana, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts.
House and Senate members introduced the bills in February 2019, and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted her support. |

We often find ourselves arguing statistics with anti-gun people. Lets put the conversation into perspective. I will give you some statistics and Ill also expose the anti-gun lefts real motives for gun control. First of all, dont you think that if someone really wanted to save lives, they would focus their attention on an area where the most lives are lost? If youll notice, Anti-Gunners miss that piece of logic and gravitate toward any justification for gun control laws regardless of its inability to save lives. |

The Viridian Weapon-Mounted Camera (WMC) provided the key evidence in the Wilbarger County, Texas trial of Walter Orellana for unlawful deadly force against a police officer. Viridian officials attended the trial where prosecution evidence was presented of the April 2019 incident in which Vernon, Texas Police Corporal T.J. Session was shot by Orellana while conducting a felony arrest warrant.
Session returned fire in the incident.
The Vernon Police Department had previously deployed Weapon-Mounted Cameras (WMCs) for all of its officers, and the Viridian WMC on Sessions firearm captured the incident. This video and audio footage was presented to the Wilbarger County jury on the first day of trial. |

Bloomberg claimed that 95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: male, minority and between the ages of 15 and 25. Cities need to get guns out of this groups hands and keep them alive, he said.
That group contains legal adults. It also contains citizens, voters, veterans. To treat them all like violent criminals and blanket strip them of a fundamental right without a charge or even the pretense of due process would be the act of a mad tyrant. |
