I believe that this whole Mexican Drug Cartel lie was perpetuated as a stepping stone toward the United Nations Small Arms Treaty passage in the United States Senate. It was one of those trial balloons that politicians are so fond of floating. In the end, Fox News and the NRA raised their fifty caliber pens and blew the rubbery beast out of the sky, as well they should have. But it took them a few months, and the notion is still out there, floating around, gathering more hot air and waiting to rise again, and believed by many who just never check the facts. |

New rules will allow visitors to Zion National Park to carry semiautomatic rifles as they hike Angel's Landing.
Shotguns can accompany campers' Coleman stoves on Dinosaur National Monument's Split Mountain beach. Want your pistol on your hip while pitching a tent at Bryce Canyon National Park's Sunset Campground? No problem, as long as you don't actually pull the trigger.
On Feb. 22, the long-standing ban on guns in national parks and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service-administered wildlife refuges will lift, thanks to an amendment Congress attached last year to a credit-card reform bill. The add-on requires parks and refuges to conform to state gun-carry laws. |

Imagine the turmoil that would erupt if a shrill lobbying effort were mounted against a well-known American business, demanding that this company refuse service to Muslims, or servicemen and women in uniform, or people with lip rings or tattoos, or some other identifiable group.
So, why should we allow an extremist group of gun prohibitionists to browbeat a Seattle-based company because it caters to armed citizens same as anyone else? The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has launched a campaign to force Starbucks to close its doors to legally- armed citizens exercising their constitutionally protected civil right to keep and bear arms.

The St. Augustine local news desk has learned that a new law will take effect on February 22nd concerning the possession of firearms and ammunition in national parks.
...
The new law, passed last spring by an overwhelming bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate, will allow people to possess, carry and transport firearms in national parks, in accordance with state law.
However, many details remain to be worked out, according to the National Rifle Association of America, Institute for Legislative Action.
Reports indicate that National Park Service officials are debating issues such as the definition of federal facilities where firearms remain prohibited under a different federal law. |

As Kansas City, Missouri, Police search for a suspected serial rapist in Waldo, and police search for suspects in the robbery and killing of a man in the West Plaza area, some metro firearms instructors have started putting out advertisements with warnings like 'Crime All Around You' in the hopes of getting more people to sign up for conceal and carry firearms training.
"The problem with most self defense classes that I see is that you don't see a welterweight fighting a heavyweight," said firearms instructor Dusty Rhodes. "It just doesn't happen. A 100-, 150-pound woman is not going to win against a 300 pound guy." |

In Mississippi, as in much of the country, it is getting easier to carry concealed guns.
With Senate passage of a bill this past week to allow handgun-permit holders to carry their concealed guns in most Mississippi parks, as well as in restaurants and other locations, it is becoming difficult to determine who cant legally carry a firearm in the Magnolia State; except for convicted felons, of course.
The bill by state Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Southaven, originally covered only parks. It was amended to let permit holders carry their guns in restaurants, bars and unsecured government buildings unless the owners of those facilities post notices barring guns.
The measure, Senate Bill 2153, now goes to the House. |

The Senate engrossed Senator Hangers restaurant ban repeal (SB 334) in the same form it left the Senate Courts of Justice committee last week. That is good news as there was no mischief done to the bill.
So, TOMORROW, February 16th, the Senate will vote on whether to pass the bill. This is the next major hurdle.
If you have not contacted your Senator to urge him or her to support SB 334, NOW IS THE TIME! |

John Longenecker's overall mission is to see safer streets, and he doubts they will come without official affirmation of who is the sovereign in this country: the electorate. Longenecker shows how gun control has been a vanguard for Americas boondoggles all of the country is now experiencing as one people, gun owner or not.
Longeneckers core message has always been that the health of the Second Amendment is the primary indicator of the overall health of the nation, and he reveals encyclopedic instalments of just how and where in his regular online column at Examiner.com |

It sounds bizarre. At first you think you've clicked onto The Onion Web site when you read about it.
You're almost waiting for someone from an anti-snow-shovel group to call for more stringent shovel-control laws, including background checks for snow-shovel buyers.
Which would be followed by several rounds of responses from the shovel lobby:
- Prohibition didn't work for alcohol in the 1920s and it won't work for snow shovels, either.
- Outlaw snow shovels and only outlaws will have snow shovels.
- Rather than pass more shovel regulations, why not just enforce the hundreds of shovel laws already on the books? |

The Republican-dominated House of Delegates advanced a slew of Second Amendment-related bills yesterday.
They ranged from a bill that would repeal the one-gun-a-month limit on handgun purchases, to shielding applicants for concealed-weapon permits, to protecting some Virginia-made guns and ammunition from potential federal regulation.
In all, about a dozen gun bills cleared a preliminary hurdle in the House yesterday and are up for a final vote today.
Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Prince William, sponsor of House Bill 49, argued that the rationale for the state's one-gun-a-month law, enacted in 1993 under then-Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, has been "neutered" because of technological advances. |

Regular readers of this paper might remember a letter I wrote that was printed on the day before the last presidential election. That letter was my third attempt to getting a letter printed that would accurately explain Mr. Obama's dislike for the Second Amendment of The Constitution of the United States. The last paragraph of that letter follows:
"If Obama wins the election, I suspect that he plans on signing a United Nations treaty banning nearly all privately held firearms. This will let in United Nation troops to do the dirty work, and Mr. Obama and family will be guarded with taxpayers' money for the rest of their lives. Forgive them Lord for they know not what they do." |

But does inaction like this equate to support for guns? ... But I believe hes making a mistake to do so.
After all, President Obama has been a mite busy to worry about guns at this time, dont you think? Immediately upon entering office he tackled healthcare, the Olympics, multiple bailouts, the economy, a take over of the auto industry, the laying low of Wall Street and the banking industry, and now even fat kids and gays in the military, not to mention two wars (because he hardly mentions them himself). That is quite a full dinner plate, there, wouldnt you say?
Just because Obama hasnt had the time to go after our gun rights doesnt really mean he isnt inclined to do so. Theres only so much time in a year, to be sure. |

A huge victory for gun advocates, as a judge has struck down a law that bans guns in parks in Seattle. On Friday the judge ruled that the law violates Washington state's long-standing preemption statute, which says that only the state, and not local municipalities, can set gun laws. Seattle's new mayor, Mike McGinn, now wants to change that law so he can reinstitute the ban. |

A new bill being considered would make a lot of changes to current regulations for acquiring a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Currently, each county has its own standards for getting a gun permit and it's under the discretion of the local sheriff to grant the permit.
Monroe County Sheriff Dan Johnson says he believes people should have the right to carry, and if they pass the requirements, he will grant them.
Supporters of the new legislation say Iowans that pass a background check and proper training should have the right to carry. |

As far as legislation goes, the first of my bills for this session was up in the public safety committee this week. House Bill 3157 would protect Oklahoma citizens second amendment rights. What this bill does is protect Oklahomans right to bear arms.
There has been a lot of talk from the current federal administration about additional gun registrations and potential arms confiscation. My bill states that even if an international treaty or a federal government law is put into effect that would require this, that we as a state would not require that of our citizens. I believe the founders of our great nation had great wisdom in allowing citizens to bear arms. |

A few months ago I decided to add a rifle scope atop my Bulgarian AK-74. After extensive shooting and accuracy testing the rifle and the it's 5.56x45mm cartridge, have proven to be significantly more accurate and flat shooting than my other AK's chambered in 7.62X39.
By adding an optical site, I could extort all the accuracy available from this platform. I wanted something compact and preferably with mil-dot illuminated reticle - for under $75.
After some research, I selected the Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope. According to the description it was exactly what I was looking for, and at $45.70 within my budget. |

A man's home is his castle -- whether the intruder has a weapon or not.
That's the feeling of Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial, who is hoping his bill, LB 889, dubbed the "Castle Doctrine" bill, will stay alive in the state legislature.
The bill would strengthen Nebraska's self-defense laws. Under his bill, The Castle Doctrine would allow the right to use firearms when protecting yourself, family, and others while in your home, with the philosophy also extending to the place of work and vehicle.
Also..
LB 1033 would amend the law by adding "registration" after the terms "ownership, possession, or transportation," and prevent cities and villages from requiring registration of concealed handguns of permit holders. |

Violence erupted on campus again. This time, though, the guilty party was the presumed-to-be-responsible adult, the teacher, the authority figure, the parent of four, the person who should, as some would have it, keep a gun in the desk drawer in case a student comes to school intent on, as they say, doing a Columbine.
