"Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) recently introduced legislation to create a national standard for carrying concealed firearms. Under the bill, folks holding a permit to carry in their home state would be permitted to do so in every state."
"Article IV of the Constitution says that 'Full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records and judicial proceedings of every other state.' The Article gives Congress the power to pass laws regulating the effects of this clause."

"Fifteen years ago, when Raymond Tanner graduated high school, his dad switched careers."
"Radically."
"He sold his share of a dairy farm stand and opened a gun shop. The Bucks County family had always loved hunting, Tanner says, so selling rifles, revolvers and cartridges was a logical move."
"But going from butter to guns has its downside."
"... a Washington lobbying group could post your name on its Web site, naming you as an arms dealer who caters to criminals."
"Which is what happened last month when the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence released a report, 'Shady Dealings: Illegal Gun Trafficking from Licensed Gun Dealers.' Tanner's store was featured as one of the scurrilous."
"What the Brady Center didn't know is that the sale had been a sting, arranged in cooperation with the local office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives." ... -------

FULL TEXT BELOW:
A jury deliberated for five hours Thursday before failing to reach a verdict in the killing of Michael Stallworth, who died in 2004 after a disagreement with another man outside a Gulfport nightclub.
The jury failed to convict defendant Juan Jackriel Jones, 31, a friend of Stallworth's, for shooting the victim twice with a semi-automatic pistol. Jones had pleaded self defense in the case, testifying that Stallworth attacked him in the parking lot of the Boiler Room Bar on July 17, 2004. [emphasis added]
Jones was indicted by a Harrison County Grand Jury on one count of murder and a second count of manslaughter. Prosecutors said today that they intend to retry the case. |

"This past Monday night, a gunman walked into a popular Salt Lake City mall and opened fire with a shotgun. The trench coat-clad gunman was heavily armed and intended to kill as many people as he could. He killed five people before being challenged by an armed off-duty police officer. Once again, a gun saved lives."
"Salt Lake City's police chief said, 'There is no question that his [the off-duty policeman's] quick actions saved the lives of numerous other people.'" ... |

"Many of us watched the 1953 movie rendition of the Western pocketbook 'Shane' in elementary or middle school. ..."
"Aside from being a great American classic, the movie explores perplexing issues that persist into our day. In a particular scene, Shane, an incognito gunslinger, said to a homesteader's wife, 'A gun is a tool, Marian. No better and no worse than any other tool - an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.'"

"A Carlsbad legislator has introduced a set of bills that, while attracting little attention so far, could make some big changes in New Mexico law if they are passed."
"Democrat Rep. John Heaton is touting the bills as a way to promote the responsible use of firearms ..."
"Perhaps the most interesting one of the lot is House Bill 163, officially titled Justifiable Use of Defense Force. It's also known as the Castle Doctrine - as in 'a man's home is his castle.' "City leaders in Washington, D.C. have finally admitted their 30-year gun ban hasn't done a bit of good. Thats the good news. The bad news is they're proposing something that strikes me as just as stupid, all in the name of reducing crime."
"Former mayor Marion Barry says he wants to end the District's ban on handgun ownership for ninety days. That's right. For three months, you can legally register a handgun with the city, and Barry says after the ninety day period is over, you'll still be able to keep your gun, or so the politicians say now."
