... "The hold-out reporters Ive been speaking with have been insisting we give them our sources and the documentation provided to the Senate. For those, aside from saying 'No way,' all I can advise is that trying to approach this developing story from the totality of its scope may be presently undoable--my sense is that much of the validation will only come out with further disclosures from those who now have the testimony and the documentation to corroborate it. And from those compelled to testify."

"A powerful United States Senator is squaring off against the [ATF] over serious allegations that an agency sting operation might be linked to the slaying of a Customs and Border Protection agent an assertion that might raise a question about an unconnected ATF investigation and the 2009 murder of a Seattle police officer; more about that in a moment yet to read Seattle newspapers, one gets the impression that the only gun news lately involves another rogue gun show 'sting' operation by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 'investigators' in Arizona." ...

"The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is currently reviewing the recently released study by ATF on the importability of shotguns. NSSF will be submitting comments to ATF by the May 1, 2011 deadline."

"NSSFs initial reaction to the study is that if the shooting public deems a certain activity to be 'sporting' through participation, even if that sport is new and seems unconventional to the uninitiated, NSSF does not believe the federal government should say that the firearms law abiding citizens use to participate in that shooting sport activity are neither 'particularly suitable for nor readily adaptable to generally recognized sporting purposes' pursuant to the Gun Control Act of 1968. ..." ...

"On the rare occasion when federal bureaucrats waver in their commitment to expanding their own regulatory power, environmental extremists can always be counted on to look for a sympathetic judge to expand it for them. The latest clever scheme would undermine the right of Americans to hunt and fish, using the judicial branch to implement policies too hot for regulators or lawmakers to touch. Congress needs to step in and disarm this assault on traditional sporting activities." ...

"It would seem that unless an actual revolution were being conspired to be pursued, the 'free State' should be the final arbiter of what kinds of arms could be kept and how they could be used, with severe penalties exacted whenever the arms were not of a permitted kind or were used otherwise than to protect 'the security of a free State.'" ...

During that time, Jefferson wrote: 'I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.' From the idea of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that tyranny easily includes the right not to be afraid to walk the streets of your own neighborhood."

But what many Americans fail to see is that the larger issue here is not restricting people from buying guns, but rather restricting them from buying a Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol with a 30-round magazine that serves no real purpose besides being an accessory to mass murder. Why does any American who wants to purchase a gun for hunting or self-defense need a weapon made for war and devastation? The answer is: They don't." ...

"I suspect it is in our cultural DNA, a mythological disposition that took root in the glorification of our nations frontier culture. Back in those brutal, barbaric days, men frequently surrendered to primordial fears of the great unknown wilderness. Fighting was a way of life and shooting a gun was the first (and sometimes the only) way a man protected himself, his family, and his property. Absent established laws, a man's might determined who or what was right. The flight of a bullet simply and fatally settled disputes." ...

"Current polls show Americans divided on the question of whether responsibility for the Tucson shootings should be shouldered by Mrs. Palin and others who have engaged in political speech laced with violent or inciting references. (President Obama's earlier remarks have not played a large role in the discussion.) Getting perhaps the most criticism are politicians aligned with the Tea Party movement, including Nevadan Sharron Angle, who, in the lead-up to the 2010 elections, suggested her followers look to 'Second-Amendment remedies' (referencing the right to bear firearms) in response to politicians and policy with whom or which they disagreed." ...
