The Maryland resident who shot and killed a man at a holiday party has been cleared of murder, with a grand jury determining he acted in self-defense and out of fear for his family.

A grand jury declined to indict Francisco A. Trujillo in the killing of Mario Alberto Perez, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced Friday afternoon.

It is easy to find people who say they would never use potentially lethal force against another person, even to save their own lives from a criminal assault. Under this principle, the life of a violent sociopath is more valuable than theirs. Each person has the right to place a value on their own life, so it may seem difficult to argue against this way of thinking. But lets pose some serious questions and see where this line of reasoning takes us.

Jarred Ha was found not guilty of assault with a deadly weapon by a King County Superior Court jury in January for stabbing Graham Harper. He was also found not guilty of punching a woman in the fac

Local gun store owners said Friday they already were doing a booming business before Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey said that a recent home invasion and assault in Waterville is a good argument for people to buy a gun to defend themselves.

The owners of two local gun stores say Masseys comments two weeks ago may be driving some sales, but with guns already flying off the shelves, it is hard to pinpoint what the effect is.

But despite his own rsum, Snyder is not a stickler for experience: He is supporting the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, the only candidate without any legislative record on guns.

6 Supreme Court Rulings That Could Be Overturned If a Liberal Replaced Scalia

While it is normal practice for the Supreme Court to rule again on law it already settled, legal experts say the outcome of such an effort if a liberal justice replaced Scalia would be especially dramatic. Indeed, a move from Scalia, a staunch conservative, to a liberal, would be the largest ideological shift in the court since 1991, when Thurgood Marshall retired and was replaced by Justice Clarence Thomas.

The Supreme Court can decide we got a past decision wrong, they absolutely can, said John Malcolm, the director of The Heritage Foundations Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. And they have done that. Every term they will typically overturn one or two of their prior precedents.

If concealed firearms are allowed on college campuses, many local students said they wouldnt feel safe.

Senate Bill 589 would allow Missourians with their concealed-carry permit to bring their firearms on college campuses. The bills sponsor, Sen. Bob Dixon, told the Springfield News-Leader that students, specifically women, would be able to better protect themselves.

The Supreme Court also answered the overarching question of whether a district judge can grant stand-your-ground immunity to a criminal defendant after a jury has returned a guilty verdict. The answer to that question, the court ruled, is yes a judge can consider stand-your-ground immunity at any time before the sentence is announced.

MO: The benefits of a CCW permit and a good reason to get one

I have been doing a lot of speaking to groups about the need to carry a concealed weapon and the benefits of obtaining a CCW permit. There are many different reasons to carry a weapon for self-defense, and most people I talk to have their own personal reason from events in their life that led them to the decision to carry a weapon.

One common answer I get is, "I want to be able to carry a gun when I go to Kansas City, or some other big city." Although this is a good reason to carry a gun for protection in the big city, I always like to remind everyone that crime does not just happen in the big city.

A Universal Orlando worker who was fired after someone stole a gun from his car at work has sued his former employer, the Orlando Sentinel reported. A licensed concealed weapons holder, [Dean] Kumanchik regularly took his gun to and from work and kept it locked in his vehicle. He parked in an area accessible to both employees and the public. In December, someone broke into his vehicle and stole the gun. He reported it to police. Upon learning what had happened, Universal immediately fired him.

Erich Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, contends that a vote to confirm any nominee put forth by Barack Obama is a vote to effectively cripple the Second Amendment.

"It's a vote to establish the executive actions on gun control that Obama imposed in January. It's a vote to do away with the private sales of firearms," he states. "[And] it's a vote to continue disarming military veterans with PTSD and disarming seniors because a family member is handling their finances."

Despite the reported rallying of Republicans around McConnell, Pratt says his organization is fully aware the GOP has a tendency to fold in battles against this president.

As we debate Second Amendment issues, we forget that blue-state residents love their guns too. In fact, almost 30 percent of self-identified Democrats are gun owners. Yet, getting back to the issue at hand, Delaware residents are stocking up on firearmsand theyre obtaining their carry permits too. In keeping with national trends regarding women and firearms, a gun safety instructor noted that female participation in his courses have increased 30 percent. The frequency in violent crimes in cities, like Newark, which saw 1,174 such incidents in 2014, has swayed some anti-gun residents into exercising their Second Amendment rights.

On February 13, 2015, Katie wrote an exclusive story about an adjustment in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regulation guide that banned M855 green tip ammunition thats commonly used by AR-15 owners. It was done under the pretext of law enforcement safety. If the change had gone into effect, it would have reclassified such ammunition as armor piercing, (which is nonsense) making it unavailable for civilian use. The ATF had a 30-day comment period on the new changes at the time:

The hearing in Bridgeport Superior Court will likely determine if the lawsuit, filed by nine families and a school administrator who survived the Dec. 14 shooting, will go forward.

Gun manufacturers, legal experts and Second Amendment supporters will be watching the case closely to see if the plaintiffs' argument - that the gun manufacturer can be sued because it knew the AR-15 wasn't suitable for civilian use when introduced to the market - can pierce what has been the nearly impenetrable wall of a federal law known as the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).

Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh is seeking a review of an appeals court decision that dealt a blow to the state's 2013 law that bans assault rifles.

Frosh on Friday asked the full federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals to review a ruling from earlier this month that sent a case on the assault weapons ban back to a lower court for review. The law has remained on the books during the legal challenges.

Thailand has the highest reported rate of gun-related deaths in Southeast Asia - almost 50 percent more gun homicides than the Philippines. And with 7.48 registered violent gun deaths per 100,000 people, the figure is also twice as high as that of the US, which had 3.55 deaths per 100,000 people in the same year, according to 2013 data provided by the University of Washington's Institute for Health and Metric Evaluation.

A citizens initiative to expand criminal background checks to all gun sales in Maine has qualified for the ballot in the November general election.

The measures supporters last month submitted nearly 85,000 signaturessignificantly more than the required minimum of 61,123to bring the initiative to a vote. Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, who is a Democrat, on Thursday approved almost 66,000 of those signatures to validate the proposal.

When Justice Elena Kagan was dean of Harvard Law School, she explained Justice Scalias monumental influence: His views on textualism and originalism, his views on the role of judges in our society, on the practice of judging, have really transformed the terms of legal debate in this country. In short, He is the justice who has had the most important impact over the years on how we think and talk about law.

Justice Scalias landmark opinion in Heller affirmed the individual Second Amendment right, including the right to own handguns for self-defense. That decision was made possible not just by what Justice Scalia did in 2008, but by a career dedicated to defending the Constitution.

Lights Out for the Brady Campaign and Hillary Clinton

The Republican Party and NRA need to immediately call out Ms. Clinton by pointing out Brady's tax-exempt status and asking whether she will therefore reject the group's endorsement. This, of course, requires her to (1) embarrass herself and the entire anti-Second Amendment movement by admitting that Brady is diverting tax-exempt money to an election or (2) make herself a party to the illegal use of tax-exempt money. Either choice is probably the end of the road for her because of the importance of gun control to her campaign.

In June, Gov. Scott Walker signed legislation repealing a mandatory window of 48 hours between the time an individual applied for a gun and the time they could receive it. The National Rifle Association argued that because required background checks could be conducted instantly, the waiting period was an unnecessary burden on individuals looking for self-protection.

The Nosals say there is a chance the waiting period could have saved their daughter.

Anyone who thinks this ban wouldnt have made a difference, Jane said, I invite them to meet with me, look in my eyes and tell me that for 150 percent, theyre sure it wouldnt have made a difference.

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance (ISAA) is calling for an open hearing on House Bill 422. This bill is the closest version of Permitless Carry that has been proposed, but it still needs adjustment. Come show your support on February 20th at the Idaho State Capitol.

In general, the ISAA favors the spirit of HB422. However, the bill would increase the age limit from 18 to 21 years old. The ISAA opposes any increase in restrictions on law abiding citizens above what is currently in place. There are other restrictions we also believe should be removed but a first step in this process is just getting Permitless Carry passed.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
When Pa was at home the gun always lay across those two wooden hooks above the door. ... The gun was always loaded, and always above the door so that Pa could get it quickly and easily, any time he needed a gun. Laura Ingalls Wilder
