"No matter what this film does or doesn't do, anti-Semitism is on the rise, worldwide. In a frenzy of lethal loathing not seen since Hitler's Germany, literally millions of people are just looking for excuses to destroy Jews and Judaism." ...
"These 'leaders' are missing the forest for the trees. And just as bad, they're gravely insulting millions of Christians. Their shrieks of indignation often make it sound as if they believe that every Christian who sees this film is going to rush out of the theater and start bashing and beating Jews."
"Nonsense! As JPFO has said repeatedly, the Christians of America are some of the best friends the Jews have ever had. No mere movie is going to change that. But these Jewish "leaders" themselves are doing a good job of alienating Christians by implying that masses of Christians are closet anti-Semites, just waiting for Hollywood to trigger their bigotry." |

"Gov. Don Carcieri on Thursday withdrew a homeland security plan criticized by scholars and civil libertarians as a threat to free speech and assembly rights."
"The bill introduced last week would include acts of terrorism under existing law that makes it illegal to 'speak, utter, or print' statements in support of anarchy or government overthrow."
"It also would have included terrorism under current law that makes it unlawful for any person 'to teach or advocate' a government overthrow, or display 'any flag or emblem other than the flag of the United States' as preferable to the United States government." ...
"Carcieri said the negative reaction, which included criticism from the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, was overblown."
------- Overblown? Is he joking? In 1917, the Wilson administration and the people's elected representatives passed the Espionage and Sedition Acts and the Trading with the Enemy Act, meant to quash any dissent or negativity about the United States entering World War I. It imposed imprisonment on anyone making "false reports" to help the enemy - without specifying the what the standard for "falseness" might be; it empowered the Postmaster General to deny use of the mail to any publication that, in his judgment, advocated insurrection, criticized the government or the laws of the United States, allowed him to deny mail to any person, who, in his opinion, circulated "seditious" material, and gave him censorship authority over the foreign language press; it censored all international communications; and it forbade disloyal or abusive remarks about the form of government, flag or military uniform of the United States. More than 2,000 people were prosecuted under the aforementioned statutes, and 1,055 were convicted under the Espionage and Sedition Acts.
And he thinks concerns were overblown? No, they were firmly based in history. |

"The News article on the proposal to increase fees for gun permits was excellent. It demonstrates the concept that Gov. George Pataki believes that anything that can be taxed (or fees increased) should be taxed. With his history of runaway spending and catering to special interests in Albany, he is desperate to find ways to raise revenue. He ignores the wishes of the Conservative Party, whose line helped get him elected in the first place, and seeks to further raid the pockets of taxpayers rather than cut back on his grandiose spending programs."

FULL TEXT BELOW:
The bill would allow the legal argument that it is ok to violate local gun restrictions to shoot someone in self-defense.
The measure was approved by a House committee Friday and now goes to the House floor. It is similar to a bill approved earlier by a Senate committee.
Opponents worry the change would open the door for people to carry guns in public. They also say the state should not interfere with local attempts to regulate guns.
The bills are a response to the case of a suburban Chicago man who in late December shot an intruder in his home.
Local officials charged him with violating the city's ban on handguns, although the charges were later dropped. |

"A builder on his way to work in the West End today was shot as he drove onto his construction site this morning."
"Police said the man, Alan Stenger, was stopped by a pedestrian as he was driving a white Dodge Ram pickup. The two spoke for a moment before the man outside the truck fired several shots, striking the Stenger in the left side of the torso."
Commentary:
"This victim's employer (and every other employer in Ohio) has been empowered by business lobbyists and Senators to make sure that people are still unable to bear arms for self-defense while traveling to and from work, even after the state begins issuing concealed handgun licenses (CHLs)." |

"At sunrise Wednesday, with three blasts from a high-caliber rifle, the troubled lives and marriage of Charles and Cloay Swope came crashing down right before the horrified eyes of their 10-year-old son."
"So unreal, it seemed to neighbors, spotting Cloay's lifeless body collapsed in a pool of blood on the front porch of the Renshaw Road home she once shared with her estranged husband, two children and mother-in-law."
"A thick stack of reports and court orders of protection tell the story of a pair of young parents' seriously disturbed relationship, plagued by threats of harm, divorce and alleged harassment, always momentarily quelled by vows to try again to make the marriage work." |

"A legislative effort to loosen restrictions on those who want to carry concealed handguns in vehicles came to an abrupt end Friday."
"Sen. Napoli asked the Senate State Affairs Committee to kill HB1247, and the panel quickly obliged 7-0."
"Napoli told his colleagues that many people have worked on the bill, but they still are not happy with it. He said the issue will be studied again this summer in preparation for a revised bill in next year's Legislature."
" 'We're still just not quite comfortable with the language of this bill,' Napoli said."
"Current law forbids people from having concealed handguns, loaded or unloaded, in vehicles unless those people have state permits. Violators face up to one year in jail and $1,000 fines." |

"Mrs. Bush, a former librarian, said she thought the Patriot Act should be renewed, despite opposition from civil rights groups that argue it violates privacy rights and constitutional free speech."
" 'I think it's very important in the fight against terrorism,' she said, adding that she understands the concerns of librarians who have rallied against the act as an infringement on First Amendment rights. 'I also know that no part of that act has been acted upon in a library.' "

"Western's Faculty Senate will submit a resolution to the university for approval Monday, asking the university not to cooperate with federal activities that threaten or violate constitutionally protected rights and activities of any members of the Western community."
"The resolution will specifically address the implementation of government power on university activities since the passage of the USA Patriot Act in 2001, educational foundations professor Lorraine Kasprisin said."
" 'A university must have free expression,' Faculty Senate President James Loucky said. 'Fundamentally, (the resolution) speaks of democracy and its role (at Western).' "

"Let us finally put to rest a widely circulated and grossly inaccurate story that's been making the rounds: Rumors of President George W. Bush's cooperation with the panel probing the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, are unsubstantiated." ...
" 'I've experienced two political bait-and-switches since I've been on the commission,' said Bob Kerrey, the former Nebraska senator and current president of the New School University in New York. And that's only about a month. 'The bait-and-switch in politics is a technique that is intentionally designed to lead the public (to believe) that you're going to do something that you're not going to do.' "

"What could be more half-baked than a 'war on terrorism?' What could be more evil than 530 flag-draped caskets? What could be more evil than killing ten thousand plus innocent Iraqis and their families? What could be more evil than blaming Saddam and Iraq for 9-11? What could be more evil than the lies of a reserved foreign policy, no nation-building, and compassionate conservatism replaced by the reality of unilaterally abandoning nuclear proliferation treaties, appointing oneself emperor and judge of international nuclear weaponry, and master race over the entire world as its police force?" |

"Arguably the racist Muslims would not have attacked if they had expected to be on the receiving end of AK-47 fire from the villagers. As it was, the Arabs slaughtered whom they wished and kidnapped the rest. The attack lasted for only a few minutes, but the horror of the aftermath was interminable."
"What a pity that most U.S. foreign aid ends up as cash in the pockets of a few corrupt politicians instead of as guns in the homes of erstwhile helpless populations. In the case of the Sudan, the government has declared an Islamic holy war -- a jihad -- against the non-Muslims of the southern part of the country." |

"Who could be more secure from attack than some hulk who plays professional football? The answer is, of course, a professional football player with a gun."
"This is an answer that gets the criminals' friends in the anti-self-defense chorus singing the blues."
"Speaking of his 19 years in the National Football League in an article in the New York Times of December 26 last year, Lomas Brown complained of having seen guns everywhere -- on team flights, in locker rooms, in players' cars, in dormitory rooms. Oh, the thought of it!" |
