"In any case, the de-humanizing and demonizing of gun owners is calculated, and it recalls an earlier time when another group that found itself the target of disarmament and worse, also found itself portrayed in such an ugly manner, by those sharing ideological commonalities with modern statists. That Nazi political cartoons were used to promote public acceptance for attacking Jews is a matter of shameful historical record. That modern day 'progressives' continue that hateful practice is a matter of shameful documented fact."

For the last few weeks, we've been telling you about the Stand Your Ground bill being proposed in the Iowa Legislature, and the recent roadblocks to prevent that legislation from being passed.

The bill, Senate File 137, would extend the current Castle Doctrine to public places, meaning those who already legally own and carry a gun could defend themselves not just in their home, but in situations in a public setting where they fear for their life.

Critics of the bill are worried this would give gun owners a license to kill. Jen Austin looked into the debate further and why it's being held up.

Everytown for Gun Safety, the national lobbying group identified earlier this week as one of the Top Ten Astroturfers by award-winning journalist Sharyl Attkisson, is today demanding an apology from two state lawmakers for supporting concealed carry on campus as a defense against sexual assault.

Their e-mail demand was sent Friday morning over the name of Kirsten Moore, director of partnerships for Everytown, the $50 million so-called grassroots lobbying group set up by anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Everytown and its companion, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, share the No. 1 spot on Attkissons Top Ten list of astroturfers.

A separate proposal by Rep. Dan Fisher, R-El Reno, seeks a public vote on whether to amend the Oklahoma Constitution to make it more difficult to infringe on an individuals right to keep and bear arms. Fisher said the state constitution is relatively weak when it comes to gun rights for self-defense. If approved by the voters, his bill provides that any attempt by the state to regulate gun rights would be subject to strict scrutiny by the courts.

Europe, a continent long known for the rarity of gun violence, is confronting twin challenges that give the issue sudden urgency: a growing population of radicalized young men determined to strike targets close to home, and a black market awash in high-powered weapons. The problem has been rendered vividly in recent weeks by a pair of deadly assaults that each paralyzed a European capital. In Paris and Copenhagen, the attacks were carried out by former small-time criminals turned violent extremists who obtained military-grade illicit weapons with apparent ease.

Gun control advocates have swung out at an NRA-sponsored push to promote the proliferation of guns as a safeguard against campus sexual assault, saying so-called campus carry proposals amount to a grotesque display of opportunism.

Everytown for Gun Safety, a group funded by New Yorks anti-gun former mayor Michael Bloomberg, released an open letter Friday accusing lawmakers in 10 states including Nevada state Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and Florida state Representative Dennis Baxley of co-opting the national conversation about campus rape to push a gun lobby talking point.

A controversy over a firearm old enough to have been used in Americas Revolutionary War is demonstrating how far the nation has departed from the rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

Gordon van Gilder (shown), a retired New Jersey public schoolteacher, is facing felony charges which could send him to prison for his possession of an unloaded, 18th-century flintlock pistol. Van Gilder is a collector of 18th-century memorabilia and had the pistol wrapped in cloth his glove compartment when he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation last November.

The Second Amendment Foundation has once again funded and won a small but significant federal court victory in a Pennsylvania case in which a federal judge ruled that a man convicted of a misdemeanor crime several years ago, but who has demonstrated that he would present no more threat to the community than an average law-abiding citizen, may not lose his Second Amendment rights under a federal gun control statute known as 922(g)(1).

Legislators have agreed to set aside a bill that would have allowed adults 21 and older to carry an unloaded, concealed gun without a permit.

The bill, HB 260, is sponsored by Rep. Curtis Oda, a Republican whose district includes parts of Davis county.

In Utah, any adult 18 or older who is not restricted from being around a firearm can openly carry an unloaded weapon without a permit. Those same adults can legally carry a loaded, hidden weapon in their car, but not concealed on their person.
