Florida Republicans are more determined than ever to pass bills expanding gun rights in the wake of the deadly Pulse nightclub and Fort Lauderdale airport shootings. They say law-abiding gun owners should be allowed to take their weapons to airports, government meetings and state universities, and would be in a better position to protect themselves and others if a mass shooting should erupt in one of those places.

A bill which would make adults liable for their firearms being accessed by children, passed the House Judiciary committee on Thursday with seven �yes� votes and six �no� votes. The prime sponsor of HB 1122, Rep. Ruth Kagi, D-Seattle, said this is the fourth time she has introduced the bill. She said this year, she wanted the bill to be much broader in scope than the previous versions, which just created penalties for children accessing firearms.

History buffs and rifle enthusiasts got the chance to take a look at �The Gun That Won the West' Sunday afternoon. The owner of First Stop Gun in Rapid City held a learning forum at the Journey Museum to talk about the Winchester model 1873 rifle. It's the 150th anniversary of the rifles. Mark Blote describes the gun as a piece of western history that helped modernize the area.

Redding police have identified the man who was shot on Sunday in a family dispute as Joshua Erik Horak, 29, of Tacoma, Washington. Horak was shot by his girlfriend's grandfather in a home on Woodbury drive at 4:44 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Officials believe that the incident was sparked by Horak being verbally and physically aggressive toward the grandparents and the gunshots were fired in self-defense.

Campus carry legislation is back, with several bills up for consideration in the House Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee this week. Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed a measure last year that would have allowed guns on college campuses, but state Rep. Eddie Lumsden, R-Rome, said he expects these to be more acceptable.

Four years after Gov. Andrew Cuomo approved the NY SAFE Act, Republican members of the Rensselaer County Legislature are still showing their opposition to the law. During its monthly meeting last week, the legislature approved two resolutions supporting the Second Amendment, advocating for repeal of the SAFE Act and cancellation of the required recertification by pistol owners by votes along party lines.

What happens when guns are present at the scene of domestic disputes�but not fired? It�s a slice of gun research that�s �largely invisible,� says Susan Sorenson, a public health professor at University of Pennsylvania who specializes in gun violence. In a session here Friday at the annual meeting of AAAS, which publishes Science, she argued that�because medicine, public health, and law enforcement usually focus on physical injury�researchers are missing the psychological impacts of so-called non-fatal gun use. The debate over guns on college campus's took another turn Monday as a compromise was reached between state Republican leaders. The new proposal allows anyone age 25 and older to bring their guns on campus so long as they have a conceal carry permit and attend up to 16 hours of active shooter training.

The Santa Rosa Sheriff�s Office is trading up its firearms for more accuracy and a lower cost. A switch from the .40-caliber Glock to the 9 mm Glock will allow the department to keep in line with law enforcement weapon standards and save county dollars with a lower ammunition cost.

A California man has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for unlawfully manufacturing and dealing in 3D-printed firearms and possession of an unregistered machine gun. Daniel Crowninshield of Sacramento was arrested in 2014 for work at C&G Tool, a metal shop in North Sacramento. Marketing himself as 'Dr. Death,' Crowninshield made lower receivers for AR-15s and other firearms.

A proposal in the Missouri House would require gun owners to report a lost or stolen firearm within 72 hours. Democrat Bruce Franks Jr. of St. Louis filed the legislation to close a loophole which allows legally purchased guns to be re-sold or given to anyone with no accountability. He says it would help protect against legal owners transferring their fire-arms to those who might use them when committing crimes.

The slight smell of gun oil wafted through the Dixon Fairgrounds building, which was packed with vendors and shoppers. Thousands came this weekend for the Dixon Gun Show, the first gun show in Dixon in 40 years. Organizers John and Nicole Arabia were not sure exactly why the time span was so long.

The annual event has been organized since 1926, Steve Livermore, the show organizer, said. This year, the show featured 270 tables of exhibits by 90 vendors, he said. Firearms dealers and accessories makers such as scopes, silencers, along with antique dealers showcased their inventories. The U.S. Army National Guard also brought two machine guns and an automatic grenade launcher to their table.

Speaking to a room of sportsmen while accepting a conservation award, New Jersey's second in command continued her campaign to be the Republican nominee for governor by assuring them she would be their champion in Trenton. Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno was honored with the Our Conservation Award during the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance 2017 Wild Game Dinner at the Black Forest Inn on Sunday afternoon. In accepting the award, she told the gathered crowd, which included state legislators, outdoor proponents and recreational sportsmen, that their support was essential in moving New Jersey in a direction that was more amenable to their causes.
