Marcus Schumacher reportedly served time for negligent homicide in the 1980s, but according to a North Dakota statute, individuals convicted of a violent felony are allowed to have firearms 10 years after their release. |

A volley of applications for concealed pistol licenses is leaving Grand Traverse-area county clerks' offices loaded with paperwork.
More than 150 applications for both new CPL holders and renewals passed into the Grand Traverse County clerk's office in January, a three-fold increase from 2015. County Clerk Bonnie Scheele said the increase coincides with a December change in state law that shifted more responsibilities for issuing such licenses to clerks' offices. |

Lawmakers who want to open parts of public college campuses to students with concealed handguns are getting a vote on their bill in the state House on Monday.
But they have already run into Democratic opposition -- and may meet more from Georgia's public colleges.
People who have a weapon carry license would be able to take their handguns onto parts of public college campuses, including libraries and classrooms, under House Bill 859 by state Rep. Rick Jaseperse, R-Jasper. |

You dont shoot for long without realizing the futility of trying to do every shooting job with a single firearm. Even for purely sporting purposes this is hard to do, and just plain silly to try for serious work like self-defense, freezer-stocking or duty.
Wed make the same observation about optics. Choices have burgeoned in the last 10 years, with niches filled and compromises dashed. Two particularly clever examples draw our eye at present. |

SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco police are searching for the gun of a federal agent who lost the weapon after he left it on top of his car and drove off.
KGO-TV reports the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent's loaded service weapon was reported lost in the Ingleside neighborhood Friday morning. Police say it's an H&K P200sk .40 caliber handgun.
In the last eight months, handguns stolen from federal agents were used in the high-profile slayings of Kate Steinle in San Francisco in July and muralist Antonio Ramos in Oakland in September.
Submitters note: This is happening a lot. I wonder if the LEO's are punished, or do they just give them another gun?

It is time for us to get over the novelty and drama of firearms ownership. The guy has a gun. So what?
I expected us to be over our fear of guns by now. Guns are tools. We have them. Nothing happens. Yawn. It is time we stop taking our attitude toward firearms from the people who write TV dramas. Dont get your information from Hollywood. Ask your neighbor instead. Ask the hundred million gun owners if you really want to know about guns in the United States.
The facts are right next door. |

Holding a sign that reads "It takes the hood to save the hood," Jeanina Washington pleads for any information that might tell her why her 15-year-old son, Tamar Harris, was killed Jan. 29.
"It seems like it's so senseless," said Washington, fighting back tears. "Our own kind would not come forward when they see things."
