GA: Guns stolen in Pawn Shop Burglary

Several guns were stolen from the Emergency Pawn Shop on Highway 278 during an early morning break-in Feb. 18. According to a Covington Police Department (CPD) report, officers responded to a burglar alarm at the business shortly after 4 a.m. On arrival, the officers reportedly found a broken window believed to be where the thieves made entry into the building. Officers also observed a large brick believed to be used to break the window.

In yet another twisted version of the truth, the left is screaming �Trump Legalizes Guns For The Mentally Ill.� The reality is that the Obama administration ruling that was reversed took away Second Amendment rights from many American citizens based on a possible �disability� which may have nothing at all to do with mental health or the ability to safely and effectively manage a gun.

A Florida judge is hearing evidence to determine whether a retired police officer acted in self-defense when he shot a man in a movie theater in 2014. Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Susan Barthle is being asked to decide whether Curtis Reeves should be immune from prosecution under Florida's controversial stand your ground statute. The hearing started Monday and continued on Tuesday.

The Washington State Legislature is considering a series of gun control measures that includes Attorney General Bob Ferguson�s assault weapon ban and a gun lock safety bill. One senator has introduced a measure that takes on the issue a different way, requiring liability insurance before someone can buy a gun. Sen. Maralyn Chase (D-Edmonds) says people have to buy insurance for their homes, their cars, and other items, so having it for guns makes sense to her.

Maryland�s ban on 45 kinds of assault weapons and its 10-round limit on gun magazines were upheld Tuesday by a federal appeals court in a decision that met with a strongly worded dissent. In a 10-4 ruling, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, said the guns banned under Maryland�s law aren�t protected by the Second Amendment.

Gun control measures have been gaining ground in some places around the nation in recent years. In the more urban areas of the country and along the coasts, people are more wary, and perhaps fearful, of guns. That may be why some states pass very restrictive gun laws.

The Second Amendment guarantees Americans the right to bear arms. While courts have ruled limits may be imposed on that right, North Dakota may be moving in the opposite direction. A measure passed in the House would allow North Dakota residents to practice constitutional carry.

Following news that congress has moved to do away with a screening process for mentally ill gun buyers, one of New Jersey�s leading Democrats is denouncing the move. Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald defended the screening process Tuesday, calling it a necessary safeguard against deadly shootings on the part of mentally ill gun owners who will likely have easier access to weapons if President Donald Trump signs the reversal into law as expected.

This week a US court sentenced a man to three and a half years prison for creating and selling 3D printed parts for AR-15 rifles. Specifically, he had been using a CNC machine to in order to build the �lower receiver� of an AR-15, a critical component whose sale would normally require a government license. Advertising himself as Dr. Death on gun forums, he had built many such lower receivers free from government-mandated serial numbers.

It's a new frontier for Fort Myers police as they deploy new body cameras and Tasers for all uniformed officers. FMPD will be one of few agencies in the country to do just that, according to representatives with Taser International. The 142 cameras are more than triple what the department had before and uses Bluetooth technology to sync with one another.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe plans to veto a bill that would prevent government agencies from enforcing gun bans at emergency shelters, a spokesman said Tuesday. "He doesn't believe that we should be injecting more firearms into situations that are often fraught and sometimes dangerous," spokesman Brian Coy said.

Hoosiers who receive a protective order would be able to carry a firearm without a permit under a bill passed 71-26 by the Indiana House Tuesday. Currently in Indiana, Hoosiers can have guns in their homes but need a license to carry it off that property. Some people are banned possession of firearms, including those with a felony conviction or with significant mental illnesses, and the measure does not change those limitations.

Campus security personnel at Misericordia University will start carrying guns later this year. School officials say it's so they can respond to certain situations faster, instead of waiting for police to arrive. "The first responders are the ones right there on the scene, and we would not have to rely solely on police response," said Robert Zavada, the university's security director.

Republican lawmakers want to loosen restrictions on gun silencers. The lawmakers say the devices are useful because they keep shooters from blowing out their eardrums. Gun control advocates see them as dangerous weapons that can be exploited by criminals, which is why they were subjected to rigorous constraints in the first place.

A vote by the Howard County Council could change the way you can protect yourself on the streets of Maryland. The council voted 4-1 Tuesday night to lift its ban on the sale of tasers and stun guns. The council held an emergency meeting on the matter last week. They introduced legislation to get rid of the ban and Tuesday held a public hearing before the vote.

Local legislators agree with waves of constituents and law enforcement officials who have called in opposing a bill moving through the Legislature titled �Background Checks for Gun Transfers.� In both houses, local legislators believe the background checks in the bill go too far for Grant County gun owners. New Mexico Senate Bill 48 is set for a vote on the Senate floor today. New Mexico House Bill 50, its mirror image in the other legislative house, has already failed to find as much support as sponsors wished and has been pushed back into the House Judiciary Committee.

A bill filed Tuesday by a trio of N.C. House Republicans seeks to drop a provision in the state constitution that prohibits secession.
Another would repeal the constitutional requirement that voters be able to read. ...
A third would change the line that says a North Carolina citizen �owes paramount allegiance to the Constitution and government of the United States� by taking out the word �government.� And a fourth would repeal the section in the state constitution that allows the state to regulate the concealed carrying of weapons. ...
Voters would decide on the amendment in the November 2018 election.
