"Starting on Wednesday, the U.S. Senate is scheduled to begin debate on S. 659, the gun makers' protection bill. This bill would attempt to end the dozens of frivolous lawsuits that have been launched against gun makers, in an attempt to put them out of business (or force them to adopt gun restrictions on the firearms they sell)." ...
"Anti-gun Senators like Dianne Feinstein and John McCain are lining up to offer anti-gun amendments to this bill -- provisions that would extend the Clinton ban on semi-automatic firearms or impose restrictions at gun shows." |

"I can't believe that with 31 Americans being murdered with guns every day we would put assault weapons back on the streets. So many families have been torn apart by these weapons of war. Our police officers, routinely outgunned ten years ago, will suffer the consequences of inaction. This will be an all out fight to renew the assault weapons ban..."
------- It is unbelievable the lies this fascist sow will tell to promote her agenda! 31 Americans are NOT being murdered every day with guns. Nationally, assault weapons were used in 1.4% of crimes involving firearms and 0.25% of all violent crime before the enactment of any national or state assault weapons ban. |

This article is in response to The Chronicle's View on Feb. 19 that stated that the U should continue its ban on guns. First, I would like to talk about the intellectual myth of the 'safe school zone.' The only thing that makes this campus and this society, for that mater, a safe place is the ability of individuals to control themselves. Do all those who are freaking out about guns on campus live in fear at the mall or even at the Salt Lake City Public Library, where guns are allowed? I think not. Academic freedom is not a magical characteristic of a university but rather a right of free speech in a free society, a right that was protected as Malcolm X showed by carrying guns. Why were laws passed that made it illegal for African Americans to own guns? Answer: to prevent them from voicing their intellectual opinions." |

The Government was accused today of opening up a "dangerous loophole" allowing British arms manufacturers to sell to some of the most dangerous and repressive regimes in the world.
A report by the charity Oxfam warned that the defence industry was taking advantage of a relaxation in the controls on the export of weapons components, to get round international arms embargoes.
It said that parts made in the UK were reaching countries such as Zimbabwe, Israel, Indonesia, Uganda, Nepal, Colombia and the Philippines, even though the selling of complete weapons systems to these countries has been banned.
Once abroad the components, ranging from gun barrels to guidance systems, could easily assembled into completed systems. |

A German social worker pocketed more than $163,800 in public funds intended for homeless people and war refugees and bought himself a brand new BMW with the money, a court said Tuesday.
The 39-year-old Berlin man was convicted of embezzlement and received a two-year suspended jail sentence. He was also told to repay the money.
"He wasn't exactly adhering to the Robin Hood principle," said a court spokesman, referring to the medieval legend who robbed the rich to give to the poor.
The defendant told Bild newspaper it had been easy for him to channel funds to his own account because he had clearance to issue individual payments of up to $1,890.
"It was an enormous temptation, just a computer click away," he told the newspaper. |
