Link is to a video for Maryland residents. We have formed a "Call for Action" to stage a last minute "sit in" of Democratic MD State Senators before the floor vote on SB281 "Gun Safety Act" on Tuesday morning. We want to flood the offices before the vote since this is our last chance. Flash or Real Player required. |

Legal gun owners flocked to a gun-rights rally. A local blogger first posted on Facebook, and then the rally went viral as local Tea Party and Oath Keepers groups picked up on it. No one knew how big the rally might be, but about 500 people attended.
They learned about the proposed laws to limit gun rights in California. The crowd wanted to be heard and to send a message. Not a single elected official attended.

Next to wearing an iron chastity belt, a gun is the best form of defense a woman has. Very few men are going to try anything when theyre looking down the barrel of a gun. But Democrats dont want you to have that option. They would rather set you up to being raped than to give you the best opportunity to protect yourself. I wish the millions of women that voted for Obama and Democrats across the land would have thought of this before they entered the polls last November.

Once again, this wouldnt deal with the criminal element. What criminal is going to care that the law requires that he register his weapon or that he get a background check? All this would do is give the feds a list of people in the state of Minnesota who own a firearm, and theyre using the background check to do it. Criminals would be exempt.

What is interesting about this is that a few months ago this was considered to be one of the more 'common sense' proposals and at points prior even had the support of organizations like the NRA. In fact, I find myself, who at one time supported the idea, currently being in opposition. The question is what changed?

There are no surprises in the report from the Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection, which was released late last week.
The stand-your-ground law stands, as is.
The task force was formed in the wake of the controversial Trayvon Martin shooting in Sanford a case that has yet to be adjudicated. |

Michael Carley suggested in his Feb. 6 commentary that the Second Amendment has historically been understood as a states right. He may not be an attorney or constitutional scholar, but even as an institutional researcher at the college such a blunder is surprising. As the Supreme Court noted in its 2008 landmark Heller decision, the word people as used in the Second and other amendments refers to individuals and not states, and virtually every serious scholar has acknowledged the amendment guarantees an individual right. |

A popular NRA bumper sticker proclaims: The Second Amendment: Its not about Hunting. Indeed. That leaves self-defense and rebellion. For self-defense, an AR-15 is inferior to a handgun or shotgun. For rebellion, assault weapons offer only a shortcut, bypassing initial disadvantages, to wit: Syria, where the rebels basically started with nothing and are now capturing airbases. Tea Party histrionics notwithstanding, does anyone seriously think that we resemble 1930s Germany or present-day Syria or ever will? In effect, Wayne LaPierre says we need to tolerate dead children so Bubba can shoot cans and bottles in the woods using weaponry without any other legitimate purpose. |

The controversy over the Public Safety attack-prevention tips list highlights the broader debate at the state level concerning the right to carry a concealed weapon on college campuses.
Everyone from Sean Hannity to Cosmopolitan recognized the tips as impractical, ridiculous and demeaning. And it would be equally demeaning to limit a womans options when it comes to deterring attackers, namely taking away her right to carry a weapon.
Women should not have to resort to physical self-deprecation or focus on making themselves feel less attractive in order to protect themselves. After all, the attacker is the one who should be facing consequences, not the woman he targets. |

Women of America, relax. Theres no need to carry a gun for self-defense, not when you can vomit on your attacker. Vomiting on command not a skill youve cultivated? Never fear, just proceed to the nearest rape-free zone at the boundary of which your attacker will be forced to meekly retreat. If theres no rape-free zone in your immediate vicinity, maybe passive resistance is your best option. Or, have you considered that you might be imagining the whole thing?
Is the above absurdly satirical? Well, yes and no. Apparently, if youre a male Democratic politician in Colorado, this is perfectly sound logic. |

Gun rights advocates have collected more than 400 signatures for a petition opposing eight bills being evaluated by the Legislature, an organizer said Sunday.
That petition opposes numerous gun-control measures, and it covers proposed laws ranging from one that would put a limit on magazine rounds to one that would generally impose criminal penalties on guardians if children obtain guns in the home and then cause harm or commit crimes.

A bill recently introduced in the New York State Assembly would require all gun owners in the state of New York to buy at least $1 million in liability insurance to cover potential damages caused by their guns.
Should Democratic Assemblyman Felix Ortiz's Assembly Bill A03908, become state law, all current New York gun owners would have 30 days to purchase the required liability insurance or face confiscation of the their guns. Future gun buyers would be required to produce proof of insurance at the time of the sale. |

Amid heated debate over gun rights, UCCS Public Safety website has made headlines for its tips on how to deter an attacker, suggesting women vomit, urinate, fake a disease or claim to be menstruating.
The 10 tips, which have since been removed, have spread from social media to local, state, national and international news outlets.
On Feb. 18, while researching campus safety policies for an editorial, Jesse Byrnes, managing editor for The Scribe, sent two tweets with a link to the tips, What To Do If You Are Attacked.
Byrnes second tweet referenced the sixth tip, Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating. |

As John Lott, former chief economist of the US Sentencing Commission, recently wrote in the Wall Street Journal, With just a single exception, the attack in Tucson last year, every public shooting in the U.S. in which three or more people have been killed since at least 1950 have occurred in a place where people are not allowed to carry their own firearms.
Regarding black reality, blacks are the least armed, least protected and defended, and the most assaulted citizens in our country.
According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, 42 percent of whites and 16 percent of blacks say that they have a pistol or rifle at home. |

Saturday saw small but significant rallies of armed citizens in several states including Washington, as more firearms industry companies are joining a boycott of New York and other jurisdictions that adopt gun laws restricting the rights of citizens.
The big names in guns, including Smith & Wesson, Glock, Sig Sauer, Sturm Ruger and other have not yet announced their intentions, but there clearly is a backlash in the works. For gun prohibitionists, it is the unintended consequence that could lead to the inability of police agencies to equip and train their officers. |

Vowing to close what they're calling "the police loophole," at least 50 US companies, ranging from gun machinists to gun shops, are now saying publicly they'll refuse to sell weapons and gear to police in places where governments have banned the use of the same gear by civilians.
Quality Arms, located in Rigby, Idaho, writes on its website that it "will not supply any firearm or product manufactured by us or any other company, nor will we warranty, repair, alter or modify a firearm owned by any state, county or municipality that infringes on the right of its citizens to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment." |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. Ronald Reagan |
