Blocker has given few details about the investigation, including what kind of cheating was suspected since disclosing the investigation Feb. 4.
Submitters note: By leaving they avoid a criminal record and can get hired by a local police department. |

Rep. David N. Cicilline (D-RI-1st) is sponsoring legislation that would prohibit persons convicted of hate crimes from purchasing guns, even if that crime was non-violent in nature.
The legislation is titled, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
The Hill points out that felony convictions of hate crimes already include a prohibition against gun possession and gun purchases. Cicillines bill would expanded that prohibition to cover misdemeanor convictions as well. He argues that misdemeanor hate crimes are often a precursor of more severe attacks down the road. |

Arizona Republicans are pushing legislation to ensure that residents can carry their concealed weapons on any public thoroughfare even when it cuts through a school or university. The House initially approved the measure Wednesday in conjunction with another proposal that would prevent state and local governments from enforcing new federal firearms laws or regulations. Together the measures restrict and pre-empt firearms regulations at local and federal levels as part of an annual push by Arizona's Republican-controlled Legislature to maintain the state's Second Amendment protections, which are among the strongest in the nation. |

Senate Bill 14, which will remove the requirement of a concealed carry permit to have a loaded pistol in a vehicle, passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Wednesday afternoon.
The bill was the subject of a heated public hearing last week.
Senator Vivian Figures, D-Mobile continued to be a vocal opponent.
How do we know they are law abiding citizens if they dont have to go in and get a permit, she asked the bills sponsor, Sen. Gerald Allen. She continued, Okay, you dont have to answer that. You wont know. |

Gun owners rights groups urged lawmakers Wednesday to support a bill inspired by the case of a disabled Rockland man who was told he had to give up his gun to continue living in subsidized housing.
Supporters portrayed the bill as a Second Amendment issue intended to prevent landlords who receive public funding, such as for Section 8 housing, from violating their tenants rights to own a gun. But critics argued that the legislation could violate the rights of private property owners and discourage more landlords from participating in programs for low-income renters. |

Earlier this week, a Connecticut judge heard arguments from Freedom Group, the parent company of AR-15 maker Bushmaster Firearms, in a request to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the families of the victims in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting.
The victims families claim the AR-15 is a military weapon that should not be sold to the public, stating they are suing under an exception to the 2005 law that states gun makers and sellers are not, and should not, be liable for the harm caused by those who criminally or unlawfully misuse firearm products or ammunition products that function as designed and intended. |

The proposal appeared to have died in November, after members of the Houses Criminal Justice Subcommittee voted it down. But last week, it was reported that the legislation had returned to life. A similar version of the bill had passed the state Senate early this month, and after being sent over to the House, the Republican Speaker, Steve Crisafulli, referred it to the Judiciary Committee, on which Kerner serves as the ranking Democrat. It was up to the Committees Republican chair, Carlos Trujillo, to schedule a vote for the bill. Were the committee to take up the proposal, the hearing would have occurred on Thursday, February 25... |

There were still no definite answers Wednesday on whether the House will consider a Senate-approved change to the states Stand Your Ground law.
The Senate bill, backed by state Sen. Rob Bradley, shifts the burden of proof from the defendant to the prosecution in pretrial hearings on whether a use of force was justifiable, according to a staff analysis.
Those hearings determine whether a defendant can claim self-defense at trial. |

A local business owner with several offices in Georgia is now requiring all of his employees to get a concealed carry license and be armed.
After each employee at Lance Toland Associates gets their license, Toland presents them with a gun known as the judge. He says it is one of the most effective self-defense weapons and all his aviation insurance agencies carry them openly in the office.
Everybody has one of these in their drawer or on their person. I would not want to come into one of my facilities, Toland said. Its a 5 shot .410, just like a shotgun and you call it hand cannon. |

So Im having a discussion about this with a friend the other day and he says, Whoa, Jenn! Youre asking for the Feds to have control over gun rights rather than the states? Then he tisk-tisked me and said, Bad libertarian, bad!
I cant publish what I said back, but needless to say, this really got me struggling to align my libertarian-leaning logical mind with the sudden realization that I would actually be in favor of handing concealed carry control over to the Feds. |

On Tuesday, February 23, an "administration" bill was presented in the Senate Judiciary Committee that has the effect of cutting the existing handgun permit fees charged to Tennesseans by more than half over time. That bill, which is referenced as Senate Bill 2566, was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee members on a 9-0 vote with no significant debate.
John Harris, Executive Director of the Tennessee Firearms Association, stated, "The current permit costs $115 and is good for four years. This bill reduces the state fee to $100 and extends the permit to an eight year permit." |

A bill allowing children under 14 to use a handgun with parental supervision has passed through Iowas House of Representatives despite opponents concerns that it exposes children to more gun violence. The Youth Safety & Parental Rights Act was one of five pro-Second Amendment bills passed through the Republican-led House on Tuesday with some bipartisan support.
The proposed legislation allows children under the age of 14 to use a pistol or revolver under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian without listing any lower age limit. Current state laws allow any child over 14 years of age to handle a weapon. |

The concealed weapon law change may have made it to the Governors desk, but Mercer County Sheriff Don Meadows says he is adamantly against its passage.
The bill, which would allow anyone over the age of 21 in the state to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, is now on its way to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who is expected to veto it.
However, Meadows said it will take only a simple majority of legislators to override the veto, a move he expects to happen.
I am against it, Meadows said Wednesday. I dont think you need to put guns out there in the hands of people who are not trained. |

Governor Tomblin is expected to veto the bill, just as he did last year, and likely for the same reasons. Law enforcement officers throughout the state have voiced overwhelming opposition to this bill. In light of their concerns and in the interest of public safety, I believe a veto is appropriate, Tomblin said in his veto message last March.
But unlike last year, there will be enough time to override the veto this year and the votes are there in both chambers.
Supporters argue that the permitting process is an undue burden on their 2nd Amendment rights. They chafe at having to go through the county sheriff and pay a $100 fee to get their permit to exercise their freedom. |
