The Second Amendment Foundation just set a record for being a gun rights organization with the most cases seeking review from the Supreme Court of the United States at any other time, and one of those cases even has its sister organization, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, as a plaintiff.
Attorneys for SAF and its lawsuit partner, the California Gun Rights Foundation, filed a brief to the high court on Friday. They are suing on behalf of plaintiff Lori Rodriguez. Her firearms were seized in 2013 after her husband was taken to a hospital on a mental health issue.

At any second, I was expecting a bright light in my eyes and a rubber hose on my ribs. I had been met by a stoic man and a tall blond woman who silently led me to a locked room. The door opened to a huge empty space with a table and a chair in the center. I was instructed to sit down and wait.

Freedom-loving Virginians are breathing a well-deserved sigh of relief. On Monday, February 17, four Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee joined their Republican colleagues to vote down HB 961. The legislation, backed by disgraced Governor Ralph Northam and his Michael Bloomberg-bought allies in the House of Delegates, would have banned a wide array of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and magazines, making criminals out of otherwise law-abiding individuals merely for retaining possession of their own property.

The American Bar Association (ABA) has long supported restrictions on the rights of gun owners. While it has defended the due process rights of some very unpopular groups, including, enemy combatants, terror suspects, and convicts on death row, in 2017 the ABA decided that gun owners should not be afforded similar due process protections. This year, the ABA decided it should increase its assault on the Second Amendment, and perhaps other constitutional protections.

The Maury County Commission has unanimously declared the region a sanctuary community for the constitutional right to bear arms. The commission voted in approval of a resolution to uphold the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution during its monthly meeting. It joins hundreds of local governments across the nation that are taking a similar stand as progressive legislatures introduce bills that would allow authorities to temporarily confiscate firearms from those who are deemed unfit to possess them.

Gun rights advocates boast that more than two dozen New Jersey municipalities and at least three counties have declared themselves a sanctuary from supposedly unconstitutional firearms regulations. In Pennsylvania and other states, similar efforts led by organizations such as 2A Sanctuary, a reference to the Second Amendment, are underway, with some advocates urging local jurisdictions not to enforce so-called red flag or other recently enacted laws. This self-styled nationwide grassroots movement gained traction in 2019, supposedly without any direct support from the National Rifle Association. |

The Allegan County Board of Commissioners will decide over a resolution on whether or not to give the county sanctuary status for the Second Amendment at its next meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27. The proposed resolution would direct Allegan County Sheriffs authorities to not enforce against any citizen an unconstitutional firearms law. Its unclear what exactly that would prohibit authorities from doing if enacted.

A new law in Kentucky will mandate that all school police officers must carry guns as part of an effort to secure the lives of the students. Democratic Governor Andy Beshear signed the bill into law on Friday, ending months of controversy and protests from anti-gun groups and Democrats in the state legislature. The bill, however, received overwhelming bipartisan support in the Kentucky House and Senate.

Every year, Santa Clara County courts mandate that about 4,600 people surrender their firearms as the result of domestic-violence restraining orders being filed against them. But currently, authorities admit they make at best a modest dent in enforcing those bans. Its why county and city officials are looking to form a team whose sole job would be to identify who of those prohibited people still has their guns, and take them away.

Today saw the release of a very good but also very limited study suggesting that white officers are far more likely to use gun force against blacks than black officers are. The study works by leveraging a natural experiment in the way cops in some places get assigned to 911 calls: The nearest available cop is assigned to each call and doesnt get to choose whether to go. If these calls are more likely to result in force when a white officer gets assigned to a black neighborhood (relative to a black cop working the same beat and shift), it seems reasonable to conclude race is making a difference.

YouTube has indeed changed our world. NRA Publications, of course, has its own channel on which you can find all of the videos that we produceincluding segments from American Rifleman Television. But YouTube can also have its downsides. Recently, a prominent and respected YouTube personality had problems with the new Colt Python. He shot the gun extensively, praising it highly for about a half-hour, until he had issues with cylinder rotation.
