A Florida technology company is poised to ask the government to market a first-ever computer ID chip that could be embedded beneath a person's skin. For airports, nuclear power plants, and other high security facilities, the immediate benefits would be a closer-to-foolproof security system. But privacy advocates warn the chip could lead to encroachments on civil liberties. |

For about $1 million, Taser International is supplying United with 1,300 guns, which will be holstered next to cockpit seats during flight, and 13,000 units of Taser ammunition. The move is part of United's effort to tighten cockpit security after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. |

"Grace Ikombi's gun is much like 35 million other Kalashnikov rifles in circulation around the world."
"It is an oddly toylike weapon. Brute simple, with only nine moving parts, it weighs just 10-1/2 pounds. Yet it can empty a 30-round magazine in three seconds and is powerful enough to punch holes through a man's chest from 1,000 yards away." |

The number of people shot by District police more than doubled last year -- from seven to 17, including three fatalities... ... Do gun control laws stop violent crime with guns? ... This can't be true. Washington, D.C. has prohibited the private ownership of virtually all firearms, so there's no chance it could support this degree of criminal behavior |

GOOD NEWS! HB 183, Rep. Philpot's bill to eliminate fees for background checks passed the House today! Here's what happened: Rep. Philpot moved to uncircle the bill. That vote, which decided whether or not the bill would be debated, passed by only 2 votes. This vote is probably the most accurate gauge of whether legislators really support gun rights. |

Here are some questions to ask supporters of a modern "enhanced" ID system for the United States.
1. Under your system, can one's ID fail online verification for any reasons other than authentication failure (ID is not in the database or biometrics don't match) or expiration? Can a valid ID be cancelled for any reason (beyond expiration)?... |

Family members held their hands together in prayer as a Cook County judge acquitted an Elgin woman on charges of attempted murder Tuesday... The judge agreed with us that she was trying to send a message to [the drug dealers] to stay away."

Until recently, however, the mass media not only refused to report studies showing guns in a favorable light, but they actively campaigned against gun ownership, using bogus statistics manufactured by outfits like Handgun Control, Inc. Now, since Sept. 11, theyre not only reporting incidents of private citizens defending themselves with firearms, but a lot of reporters are going out themselves and buying handguns. |

Long before former basketball star Jayson Williams was charged in the shooting death of a limousine driver, his image appeared in newspaper advertisements for "gun safety."
Those ads, along with gun safety talks at high schools and summer camps, were part of a court agreement that helped the NBA All-Star avoid a felony conviction that would have barred him from owning firearms.
KABA NOTE: That's typical: You can keep your guns if you help us brainwash the public that they shouldn't own them. |

Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chvez is asking the state Supreme Court to throw out a petition filed by his predecessor challenging the state's new concealed-carry law.
Chvez, who supports carrying concealed weapons, said the petition filed by former Mayor Jim Baca does not reflect his own position "on these important public policy issues."
While he was still mayor, Baca filed a petition as a private citizen with the Supreme Court, contending the concealed-carry law was unconstitutional. |

After speaking with Dell spokesperson Cathie Hargett, Sierra Times was sent the following official statement which concurs with her words regarding the Jack Weigand matter and other related issues. In our opinion, the fact that Dell choose to address the matter quickly and public on the record is commendable, and should change the tone of correspondence to their company from Second Amendment activists, or cease them altogether. |

Would you have been more likely to be murdered in 1900, if you had been alive, than in 2000? If you answered no, as I expect most people would, you would be correct. The evidence is, albeit imperfect, that most Americans were less likely to be murder victims 100 years ago than today.
Sociologists, criminologists, economists, and assorted other "ists" have many theories to explain the rapid rise of murder during the later part of the 20th century despite all the new social programs. |

Well the Novi City Council is playing dirty.
They had originally scheduled discussion on their proposed CPL ban for the Council meeting on the 25th, but after they found out that we were planning to attend in force, they took if off the agenda and publicly announced that they were not going to take it up again. The City Clerk personally told me that the ordinance was not going to be brought up again "any time soon" when I called on the morning of the 25th to check the agenda. |

Eligible Wisconsin residents would be allowed to carry a concealed weapon under legislation the Assembly approved Tuesday.
After a weary and sometimes bitterly personal debate, lawmakers approved the bill 58-40. The bill would end the state's 130-year-old ban on concealed weapons after more than four hours of debate. The Assembly sent the bill to the Senate.
It has to be approved by the Senate and signed by Gov. Scott McCallum to become law. |
