"Note: This article was written before news of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman's death was announced. The timing of it with the news of his death is purely coincidental. Once published, it was removed and slightly rewritten to accommodate that news by removing recommendations for his future actions. I made the decision to not remove it entirely in deference to this morning's news with the understanding that this will nonetheless upset some." ...

"There are a number of books about a terrorist attack on the Super Bowl. Tom Clancys The Sum of All Fears and Thomas Harris Black Sunday are the most famous. In some ways, these books are reassuring. What could anyone do to stop a bomb plot? You know, anyone other than the heroic anti-terrorists in Americas (and Israels) employ. Best to pay your taxes, enjoy the game and trust Uncle Sam to keep you safe. That kind of passive, fatalistic mindset suits terrorists and gun grabbers alike. The former because its easier to annihilate people without situational awareness. The latter because its easier to disarm civilians if they think the government will keep them safe. Of course . . ." ...

"Dirk Diggler and I put the GLOCK 42 through its paces yesterday at On Target in Valley Park, Missouri. Long story short: its a mixed bag. While generally very soft-shooting, Gastons littlest gun seems to be fairly particular about the ammo it eats. Personal defense rounds ran through it, in the words of General Patton, like crap through a goose. On the other hand, heavier, hotter ammo was, well, more problematic. We confirmed Hickok45′s experience with Buffalo Bore 100gr. +P. That snappy-shooting stuff tends to lock the slide back. ..."

... "One last question: How is selling the turned-in guns to legal gun owners increasing the number out there? Seems to me the numbers stay the same; just the owners change!"

"The urgency in Congressman Steve Kings words sent me searching for a 1984 movie I hadnt seen since, well, 1984 on VHS."

"If what the Kiron Republican insisted in Orange City the other night is not mere campaign clutter but skin-shivering clairvoyance, we need to be locked and loaded, our eyes trained to the horizon for intruders ..."

"The reason we have guns isnt for mere hobby, the hunting of deer, or even to protect ourselves on the streets of Carroll where the most dangerous thing most people do in a day is leave the popcorn unattended in the microwave. We need guns, goes Kings reasoning, so we can collectively function as an ad hoc militia against potential tyrants." ...

"Lets see a show of hands of all you folks out there who would like a neighbor to set up a shooting range in his back yard and start firing away at any time of the day or night."

"... dont see a lot of raised hands out there. Guess that has to do with the noise. Or the inconvenience. Or the potential for danger and the risk of errant shots coming over the fence into adjoining properties."

"Or maybe its just the sheer craziness of it the very idea of free-lance, do-it-yourself shooting ranges in residential areas."

"But, hey, this is Florida. Were just crazy about guns around these parts. The latest revelation about ... DIY shooting ranges on private property, regardless of location, serves to prove the point. ..." ...

"Some North Texans want the legal right to carry both long guns and handguns out in the open. Open Carry Tarrant County held a peaceful demonstration in Keller this morning. The group organized the rally to show their support for the Second Amendment."

"'We see a problem with gun rights, they're very far away from what the Constitution originally intended for the Second Amendment, and so we are trying to further gun rights in Texas,' said Kory Watkins. 'We are one of six states that don't allow open carry for modern day handguns, and we want that,' he said." ...

"Colorados new gun laws limiting the size of ammunition magazines and requiring background checks arent resulting in a rash of criminal charges."

"In fact, in at least one Colorado county, the new laws havent resulted in a single case. The Colorado State Patrol also said it wasnt aware of its troopers citing anyone for violations."

"'Im not surprised, based upon the way the laws were written, Larimer County District Attorney Cliff Riedel told the Fort Collins Coloradoan. 'The ability to prove the required elements is very difficult.'" ...

"The report above is entirely misleading. The Mexican military controls the town of Apatzingan. Mexican revolutionaries (a.k.a., self-defense groups or vigilantes) control the countryside. So its not the Knights Templar drug cartel vs. government troops protecting the locals. Its the Knights Templar allied with government troops vs. inhabitants. To regain control of the region from the locals, the Government has pacified the drug thugs by secret agreement and called for the revolutionaries to register their members and arms. So far, only eight out of twenty such groups have cooperated. Allegedly. The Government plans to bide their time, withdraw quietly and let the drug thugs exact retributions as and when. ..." ...
