Mr. Gibbons said he supports the 2nd Amendment.

The 2nd Amendment is about hunting. It is not about self defense. It is a God-given right. I believe that is one of the reasons why we are a 200-year-old democracy, he said. The 2nd Amendment was put in the Constitution because our forefathers were very wise.

Each year, Tennesseans take advantage of a sales tax holiday for back to school shopping, and now a new bill would exempt firearms from taxes. House Bill 0744 would set up a Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday.

The bill would create a sales tax holiday for firearms and ammunition for the first weekend of September. Shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, BB guns and muzzleloaders would be included. Ammunition includes shots, bullets, cartridges and shotgun shells.

Because the media wants you and your elected representatives to forget why you elected this pro-gun Congress. And for gun owners, there no more important political objective than enacting a national reciprocity law.

Rest assured, your NRA has not forgotten. While the media maelstrom flits from one (usually fabricated or embellished) crisis to the next, we have remained calmly focused on the job our members depend on us to do: protecting and advancing the right to keep and bear arms. Our number one agenda item on Capitol Hill remains passage of national reciprocity.

CT: Immunity for Gun Makers Impedes Needed Reforms

There is no conceivable hunting or self-defense need for a weapon that can discharge a 30-bullet magazine in a matter of seconds. Any other product so perfectly designed for deadly illegal results would be vulnerable to lawsuits. In fact, in 2004 Bushmaster contributed to a $2.5 million settlement after it was discovered the D.C. Beltway sniper had used an AR-15 in his attacks. But in 2005, Congress enacted to immunize gun makers from tort claims. The 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act prevents almost all civil suits against those who make or sell guns.

The SHOT Show, organized by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry, is the best place to take the temperature of the world of American firearms. With 12 miles of displays and a seemingly endless crush of attendees, its a well-organized melee of manufacturers, importers, exporters, advocates, retailersand, of course, firearms enthusiasts.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Ohio refused to hear an appeal by the City of Cleveland to an intermediate appellate court ruling that invalidated several of Clevelands gun control ordinances under the Ohio firearm preemption statute. The decision brings to an end a long-running dispute over the validity of the ordinances and represents a major win for the Buckeye States gun owners. Whats unlikely to end, unfortunately, is the political grandstanding by Clevelands antigun politicians, with Mayor Frank Jackson having previously indicated that corrective language for the ordinances has already been proposed to the city council. The case is Ohioans for Concealed Carry, Inc. v. City of Cleveland.

Simtek, a new security-technology company based in Mountain View, California, recently launched a funding campaign for a compact security sensor called Duo that it says might just be able to reduce accidental child shootings.

The sensor is a portable device that can fit inside safes or dresser drawers. It works by monitoring ambient light and infrared heat in its range. If, for example, someone opens a gun cabinet and lifts a rifle next to a sensor, Duo will send a text to the owner within 15 seconds.

Today, the Kansas House of Representatives passed House Bill 2042 with multiple amendments. After defeating one anti-gun amendment from Rep. Barbara Ballard to completely prohibit the carry of firearms on campus for self-defense, the House approved a hostile amendment from Rep. Aurand that would place further restrictions on concealed carry at Universities that choose not to provide adequate security measures. Please contact your state Senator and strongly urge them to support House Bill 2042 WITHOUT Rep. Aurands amendment.

Yesterday the Illinois Supreme Court unanimously ruled that a state ban on carrying guns within 1,000 feet of a public park violates the constitutional right to bear arms. The decision in People v. Chairez extends the logic of prior rulings by the same court and by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit holding that Second Amendment rights exist outside the home and cannot be categorically restricted without a strong justification.

A bill to revise Idaho self-defense laws, known as stand your ground legislation, was approved for consideration by an Idaho House panel Jan. 29.

The legislation, from Rep. Christy Zito, R-Hammett, was drafted in consultation with gun rights organizations like the National Rifle Association. It would protect those using deadly force against people invading their homes or workplace in certain circumstances by creating criminal immunity for self-defense while removing the existing exemption for self-defense in Idahos justifiable homicide statutes.

Sometimes women in volatile relationships feel it's necessary to buy a gun and arm themselves.

But officials at the Family Violence Prevention Center at the Wheeling YWCA said that's not necessarily a good idea.

They said women often get over-powered and their gun is used against them.

Studies show that women are one hundred times more likely to be murdered by a man with a gun than they are to successfully use a gun in self defense.

Quiet guns make for happy shooters and happier neighbors. Regardless of firearm type, reducing sound at the muzzle is good for everyones ears, and also tends to reduce complaints about noise pollution. Sound suppressors (also known as silencers, suppressors or cans) provide a way for the average shooter to reduce noise, whether shooting in the backyard or at a range.

Handgun suppressors also provide other significant benefits. Muzzle flash is also greatly reduced, since most of the hot gasses that follow a projectile out of a rifle or handgun barrel are siphoned off into the suppressor, where they cool before they can ignite in the open atmosphere.

Which is betterto be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?Mather Byles

That quote, from a Boston clergyman on the wrong side of the Revolution was popularized by Mel Gibsons character in The Patriot while he was still struggling with his doubts about taking up arms. It raised a point valid then and now, when we can see those fears were actually understated, considering all the federal, state and local functionaries and enforcers with the power to ruin our lives if we cross one of their arbitrary lines.
King George III with his swarms of officers sent hither was a greenhorn by comparison.

Michael Zeleny of Los Angeles filed lawsuit Dec. 28 against the city, Interim Police Chief Dave Bertini, Gov. Jerry Brown and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

Zeleny contends his Second Amendment right to bear arms and his First Amendment right to public speech were violated by Menlo Park.

General Counsel for pro-gun group Florida Carry attorney Eric Friday says other states dragging their feet on sharing background information with Florida shouldnt negatively impact anyone wanting a gun permit.

"Florida requests California to provide certain information to them and the state of California refuses to respond at all," Friday said. "I mean the criminal is responsible for their action, but I will say the state of California will have blood on its hands if that happens."

Show Me The Money? Sure, Anti-Gunners Have It

Next time some gun prohibition lobbyist starts whining on national television or in the pages of the local newspaper about the well-funded gun lobby, you just might want to respond with some information dug up by KATU in Portland, Oregon that essentially puts the dollar in the other wallet.

This report revealed that in Oregon which is considered a politically blue state where liberal anti-gun Democrats seem to run things it turns out that in 2016, anti-gunners actually got more than six times the amount of contributions as pro-gun politicians. And that, if you break out the pocket calculator and do some math, might be a bit on the low side.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the constitution they don't like. Alan Dershowitz
