The state senate has voted once more to kill a bill that would have closed Virginia's so called "gun show loophole." Senators rejected the bill Wednesday by a 19 to 21 vote.
The measure would have required background checks for most firearms purchases, including ones between private individuals.
Supporters are disappointed. One bill supporter, Lori Haas, said, "For them to ignore the pleas of the citizens of Virginia on this issue is unconscionable."
Senators voted the bill down on Tuesday, but later decided to renegotiate and give the measure one more try.
Gun rights advocates lobbied against the bill saying it encroached on Second Amendment rights. |
