After two days of contention on the House floor, a bill proponents said would create additional protections for the right to bear arms is headed to the upper chamber.
HB 85, sponsored by Rep. Jered Taylor, creates the Second Amendment Preservation Act. The legislation would allow state gun laws to supersede federal regulations, including ones enacted after the bills effective date. The bill passed with an amendment that would also require those who knowingly deprive a Missouri citizen of those rights to be liable for redress for more than $50,000, including law enforcement. The bill included a severability clause, allowing the bill as a whole to survive if parts of it are invalidated. |

More Oklahoma sheriffs are declaring their counties, "Second Amendment Sanctuaries."
Thursday, Pawnee County became the latest, and just last week Cherokee County was added to the growing list.
Bear Beam Firearms Owner, Charles Peters, said it's good to hear, but questions the weight they hold.
"The sheriffs saying we aren't going to support this or that is great, but it's going to take a lot of people to say enough is enough," Peters said. "Before anything's actually going to change." |

On Jan. 28, Iowa House District 7 Republican Rep. Henry Stone of Forest City, voted to support a constitutional amendment to protect Iowans' right to keep and bear arms, helping pass it through the Iowa House.
"Iowa is one of only six states that currently has no language in its Constitution that protects the fundamental right to keep and bear arms," said Stone in a release. "This legislation would give Iowans the opportunity to state explicitly and unequivocally that their right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon by any future Legislature or overzealous Justices that are hostile to the Second Amendment." |

A federal judge ruled Thursday to keep alive a lawsuit that claims the city of Philadelphia trampled gun rights after a surge of Covid-19 cases led the police unit that handles permit requests in the city to shutter.
Filed last fall by the Firearm Policy Coalition in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the lawsuit claims individual plaintiffs 29-year-old Keith Fetsurka and 35-year-old Timothy Sieck faced a months-long wait list just to apply for a permit to carry a loaded handgun due to Philadelphias massive backlog. |

The video evidence is persuasive that Rittenhouse was pursued and cornered by a voluble and much larger antagonist who was among those protesting a police shooting in Kenosha. And after he shot and killed that man, he was set upon by a mob chasing him down the street as he ran in the direction of police, whereupon he fired again, killing one pursuer and wounding another.
Justice in such cases is blind to the personality flaws of those in the dock. Justice doesnt concern itself with whether the person on trial was a busybody or a wannabe or a naif. |

The challenge of hunting with a handgun is what draws a smallbut loyalcadre of handgun hunters to the sport. Hunting with a handgun requires you to get close enough to an animal that it can hear, smell, or see you if you make a mistake. Handgun hunting also requires keen marksmanship and a level of familiarity with your firearm that hunting with other weapons dont. |

More than 2.2 million firearms were sold in the United States in January, according to an estimate from Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF). The number, which represents a 79-percent increase when compared to the same period last year, is based on the volume of records processed through the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Purchases made by people with a valid carry permit in regions that do not require the duplicative check, and some private transactions, are not reflected in the federal figures. |

The sponsors of legislation to eliminate the duty to retreat from Arkansas self-defense laws met with their Republican colleagues on Wednesday, after the bill was voted down the day before in a GOP-led committee.
Senate Bill 24, also known as the stand-your-ground bill, had encountered some resistance from supporters of gun-rights who said the controversial bill did not go far enough in eliminating rules on the use of self-defense, despite the bills support from the National Rifle Association. |

In Texas, someone whos all talk with little to show is said to be All hat. No cattle. Robert Francis Beto ORourke, with his gun confiscation schemes, wears a hat to block out the sun. Thats not stopping him from eyeing a possible run for Texas governor in 2022.
ORourke, a former Democratic Texas U.S. Congressman, aimed for higher office and missed the target. He was soundly defeated by incumbent Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018. He launched a presidential campaign, in 2019, based on strict gun control that crashed and burned after only seven months. |
