"But when her friend suddenly slapped handcuffs on her wrists, pushed a shotgun into her back and drove her through multiple states against her will over four days, she realized she was a crime victim."

Full text of a Letter to the editor of a Utah's Daily Herald: -------
I remember reading that the early Pilgrims mounted a cannon on top of their place of worship.
I visualize the picture of the Pilgrims carrying their guns to church.
Those who would bring a gun into church would have to have a gun-carrying permit and would have to have a reason to fear for their lives.
Since President Hinckley has banned guns from church-owned property, will his and others' bodyguards leave their guns outside?
Or are some lives more precious than others?

CNN's suggestions on how children can avoid being abducted or escape abduction are actually fairly good -- but they do not include any kind of forceful actions a child might have the opportunity to employ successfully.
So on top of their suggestions, let's also include:
* If the opportunity presents itself and you think you've got a good clean shot for escape afterwards, kick him in the privates as hard as you possibly can before running, to decrease his ability to chase you.
* If the opportunity presents itself and you think you've got a good clean shot for escape afterwards, use a pencil, pen or any sharp object, including a finger, to forcefully permanently disable one or both of his eyeballs. If you use something like a pencil, try to drive it into the back of his skull through his eye and get the hell out of there. (NOTE: A pencil jammed deep into his windpipe is also good, but pull it out quickly if possible so he can gasp for air while you escape.)
Etc.
Enough with the politically correct, sugar-coated BS. Along with teaching kids to escape and evade, they should also be taught how to take a would-be abductor OUT and leave him in need of immediate medical attention so he can be captured at the hospital. |

Australian police have such absurd restrictions on them to "properly store firearms" that two officers' wives have cooked their service weapons after the officers hid their firearms in the kitchen ovens. -------
"POLICE have 'lost' at least nine handguns in recent years, with two more being accidentally 'baked' by their partners." ...
"Police sources have told The Daily Telegraph that on at least two occasions Glock automatic pistols have been cooked in ovens after off-duty officers followed instructions to dismantle the weapons and keep them hidden - in these cases in the family oven." ... -------
Aussie gun banners probably think this is good, "because that's two less guns in the world." |

"On 2nd February, David Blunkett, British Home Secretary, reports the BBC, announced that he wants new anti-terrorism laws to make it easier to convict British terror suspects. He has discussed lowering the standard of proof required by a court and introducing more pre-emptive action. Mr Blunkett's 'possible' totalitarian proposals consisted of the following:
"Burden of proof lowered from 'beyond all reasonable doubt' to 'on the balance of probabilities'." " 'Part-secret trials for Britons.' The BBC added, 'Evidence in the new trials would be kept secret from the defendants to protect MI5, MI6 and GCHQ intelligence sources, Mr Blunkett said.' "
" 'Security-vetted judges for sensitive evidence.' They added, 'It is about the threshold of evidence and the nature of those involved being accredited and trusted not to reveal the sources.' "
"The fact that these kinds of proposals are even considered, shows how this government is set on using this 'terrorist opportunity' to extend its powers and change the basis upon which justice is administered in Great Britain. While we have moved away from the old totalitarianism of the eastern block and the USSR, the new brand of totalitarianism is far more dangerous. This is non-revolutionary socialism/statism. It uses the process of law and the political process to gradually manoeuvre its changes into the system and radically re-shape the social order. The dismantling of the House of Lords was a step in the process and doubtless there will be more."
