... "...these authors not only mischaracterized the behaviors that define road rage, they also drew no direct causative link between gun ownership and violent behavior on the road. They failed to prove that the presence of guns necessarily precipitates their use in road rage situations, although theyre quick to make offensive implications about the subject. 'If someone is giving you the finger, it may be useful to have some sense of whether or not they have a gun,' they claim. They never directly state what they obviously allude to: that if you retaliate, you might get shot. They cannot make that claim, because they have established no factual evidence that points to this risk. However, they appear anxious to make that intimation." ... |

"Vinnie Miragliotta was armed and semi-dangerous on Saturday as he stood on the back steps of the Barre Municipal Auditorium sucking on a cigarette with a Swedish Mauser slung over his shoulder."
"The antique rifle was harmless loaded only with a wooden dowel poking out of its polished barrel, with a small square of cardboard duct-taped to the tip. The makeshift sign put Miragliotta's asking price at '$175,' and as the Virginia man prepared to duck back into the 24th annual gun show sponsored by the Barre Fish & Game Club, he said the only real 'danger' was that he wouldn't leave the two-day event empty-handed." ... |

"Cowboys, cowgirls and buckaroos ride into Gainesville once a month, form posses, shoot it out, gab, have lunch and quietly ride away."
"About 80 showed up a week ago and gathered on 115 acres in a secured wooded area. Soon a pleasant odor of burnt black gunpowder filled the air with sounds of gunfire and bullets hitting metal: BlamPing. BlamPing." ...

"Boots crunching on iced-over snow, Jeff Vader creeps toward two animals from the world's last wild herd of pure buffalo."
"The normally chatty 50-year-old crouches behind a cluster of juniper trees and puts a finger to his lips. The four men behind him fall mute. Vader lies on his belly, points his rifle at the biggest bull and becomes part of a contentious experiment in controlling an icon of the American West."
"Vader has one of 50 permits from Montana to kill a buffalo during the state's first legal hunt of the animal in 15 years. ..."
"The buffalo can carry brucellosis, a disease that causes cows to miscarry and that Montana views as a threat to its $1-billion cattle industry. ..." ... |

"Most of the hunting seasons have closed, but hunters still have three weeks to enjoy some of the best hunting there can be going for rabbits."
"The rabbit season goes through the end of February. Hunting bunnies is fun for both newcomers and long-time hunters. Rabbit hunting is a great way for both groups to hunt together." ...
"Shotguns are the preferred weapon for hunting bunnies and a 12, 16, 20 or .410 gauge will do. I prefer using a .410 pump."
"In recent years, some rabbit hunters have used a pistol that converts into a .410. They like it for the ease in which it handles and its lighter weight compared to a shotgun. However, they say it takes a little getting used to pointing and shooting the bunnies." ... |

"Women clients are driven to their destination by female drivers, who have been trained not just in 'the Knowledge', but also in first aid and self-defence."
"'There was the case of this young girl on a night out who had been murdered by someone posing as a taxi driver,' says Dutton. 'It was just horrible, but there are so many cases of rapes and old ladies being robbed. When we did our market research, girls told us they didn't want to be the last one to be dropped off at night. And we've both got teenage daughters, so it's something that's always bothered us.'" ... -------

"Launching a nationwide programme "Chalo Gaon Ki Ore" (return to villages) to create awareness about the rights of women in villages, NCW chairperson Girija Vyas said statistics from 2001 and 2003 showed there had been no let up in crimes against women." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Hmmm, couldn't have anything to do with India's virtual ban on effective self-defense tools could it? |
