"It's been awhile since I have written an installment of my Effective Activist Politics series, but this is one of the most important topics for activists and activist organizations to pay attention to so I'm adding it to the series. If you'd like to read or re-read the other articles in the series they are available at www.FirearmsCoalition.org and also at www.GunVoter.org."

"The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) recently published a warning about a UN-sponsored Arms Trade Treaty Resolution that poses a distinct threat to the private ownership of weapons. ... "
"The NAGR report stated that our nation has joined with 152 others at the UN as a supporter of the treaty resolution that calls for establishing a timetable in 2012 when a UN conference will iron out details about the planned comprehensive treaty. The group quotes former U.S. Ambassador to the UN John Bolton who cautions America's gun owners that the UN 'is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nations, but there's no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.'" ... |

"We had no idea: states across the land are assembling their legislatures and passing these resolutions asserting their sovereignty. Its all part of this push, it seems, to remind whomever citizens, the federal government that the 9th and 10th amendments to the Constitution imbue the states with certain rights."
"The number of states deciding that these resolutions are worth doing are growing. South Carolina passed one this week. A Kansas resolution affirming the states 10th amendment rights was on Thursday sent to the state Senate for a full vote. Late last month, the Alabama legislature sent up a resolution essentially reaffirming the 10th amendment ..." ... |

... "We need a clear and objective method for dealing with concealed carry weapons permitting. A method that doesn't vary among the counties and municipalities. One that is responsible, reasonable and fair. One that declares the requirements clearly and unambiguously. AB 357 would have been a good start."
