"I've made a few appeals now about supporting Academics for the Second Amendment in their work to draft an amicus brief on behalf of the Heller case."
"... Who thinks it's fair that, in addition to doing all the research, writing, and production work, costs such as additional attorney fees, printing expenses, filing fees, travel and lodging expenses, etc., ought to come out of their pockets as well?"
"... If [we] sent them the cost of a box of ammo, they'd be well on their way to recovering most of their costs. If you then took it one step further and sent a link to this plea to your gun owning friends, we'd be able to make them completely whole."

"A bill passed resoundingly by the South Dakota House Monday would allow people to carry guns on the campuses of the state's public universities."
"The measure, HB1261, is no doubt a product of last year's Virginia Tech slaughter ... Proponents of the measure say allowing students, faculty and others to carry guns might help deter such actions, or at least give potential victims a fighting chance to defend themselves."
"With that in mind, the bill makes sense."
"So, why doesn't it feel right?"
"Perhaps it's because the idea of a law allowing guns on campus simply seems like a recipe for igniting more violence and disaster, not deterring it." ... -------

"Recently, the anti-Second Amendment group, The Brady campaign to Prevent gun Violence, came out with another of their 'scorecards' where they rank states according to how bad or good gun laws there are -- according to their anti-gun reckoning, of course. Upon its release, the MSM warmed up its anti-gun machine and began touting this 'scorecard' as if it were gospel. Headlines blared how 'good' a state was because it restricted guns or how 'bad' it was if it ranked as a state with fewer restrictions on guns according to Brady. Of course, all this assumes straight out that this Brady organization 'scorecard' is the correct view of guns, as if they are correct in their assessment. And their assessment is that guns are bad. Period." ... |

... "To say that owning a firearm is protected to the same extent that free speech is protected is absolutely incorrect. At ratification, the bill of rights only checked federal power. ... After the ratification of the 14th Amendment, the United States Supreme Court began to 'incorporate' certain provisions of the Bill of Rights to the states, through the due processes clause. This is why today we may claim our right to free speech is protected ... Unfortunately for your firearms enthusiasts, the Second Amendment has never been incorporated. This means you have no federal constitutional right to own a gun. Many of us can now sleep soundly at night knowing speech is more protected than guns." |
