The .32 S&W Long (7.65x23mm) is a straight-walled, centerfire, rimmed handgun round introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1896. The round, modeled after the .32 S&W cartridge, was made for the S&W Model 1896 Hand Ejector revolver, a precursor to the modern day Magnum handguns. An extended version of the .32 Smith & Wesson cartridge, the case is a straight-walled, rimmed centerfire similar to the .32 H&R Magnum and .327 Federal Magnum case diameter, but shorter in length. |

The history around the development of the .500 Nitro Express is not entirely clear. It first appeared in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century, where it evolved from the .500 Express case. The difference between the two is that black powder is loaded in the .500 Express, and cordite is loaded in the .500 Nitro Express. |

Concealed carry permit applications in Maryland increased seven-fold following a landmark Supreme Court decision in June, according to local USA Today outlet Herald Mail Media. Applications jumped from 5,283 to 79,983 from June to December, with the total year-over-year applications reaching 85,266, according to Herald Mail Media. The jump follows the Supreme Courts ruling in the New York State Rifle And Pistol Association v. Bruen case, which set a precedent for gun laws in the U.S. and established the need for historical tradition in court rulings for Second Amendment cases.

Data scientists seek to glean insights from data that can place issues of public concern into the appropriate perspective. That being said, my recent op-ed in The Hill, What the data actually say about assault weapons fueled discussion that was more revealing about the state of semi-automatic rifles (or assault weapons, or tactical rifles or modern sporting rifles as they are known by some) than the data itself.

In the research done by this correspondent and colleagues, much credit must be given to those who sent detailed information about bear attacks and pistol defenses. As incidents of defense against bears with pistols mounted, some did not have enough information to be considered documented. One of those was mentioned by Warden Louis Kis in More Alaskan Bear Tales by Larry Kaniut on page 276. In previous articles, it was mentioned as an incident requiring more information. Readers were asked to provide information.

In a ruling issued on Friday, a federal judge in Oklahoma said prohibiting marijuana users from owning guns violates the Second Amendment. That restriction, U.S. District Judge Patrick Wyrick concluded in United States v. Harrison, is not "consistent with this Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation"the constitutional test established by the Supreme Court's 2022 decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.

New Jerseys losing streak trying to defend its recent gun control laws in court continued last Tuesday when a federal judge appointed by Joe Biden, no less issued a preliminary injunction against enforcement of a law designed to get around the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). The case is National Shooting Sports Foundation v. Platkin. The case concerns a New Jersey statute, section 2C:58-35, which purports to create a cause of action for public nuisance against any gun industry member that fails to establish, implement, and enforce reasonable controls regarding its manufacture, sale, distribution, importing, and marketing of gun-related products.

The Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in a lawsuit challenging a Connecticut gun control law have filed an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order because a new rule published by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on firearms designation places thousands of Constitution State citizens in serious legal jeopardy.
SAF is joined by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League and three private citizens, Jennifer Hamilton, Michael Stiefel and Eddie Grant, Jr. They are represented by Connecticut attorneys Doug Dubitsky of North Windham, Craig C. Fishbein of Wallingford and Cameron L. Atkinson of Harwinton.
